I had been waiting for this one!

I'm so glad you're checking this series out, too! I'm SO excited to see where this season takes us and for the discussions with my brother. Thank you so much for the comment! This is going to be a fun time!

And we're back! I love One Piece so much, and I had been waiting very impatiently for season 2 of the Live Action xD Gosh, the fact that we got an Ace tease so early on in the show is insane, but I really love it. And I love the way that we immediately cut to Luffy, very much intending for the new watchers to believe that he is the child Garp took in. Bartolomeo been brought in so early on is BRILLIANT. It's a really fun way to make the world, as a whole, feel more connected, and a really nice way to make use of all the information that is now out of One Piece and that the anime, and I think Oda himself, didn't know at the time these chapters were first been released. I've said it before and I'll say it again, but the way that Sanji is a genuine gentleman in the LA is so welcomed for me. He is a really cool character that I always have some trouble connecting to because of his more perverted inclinations, and having him being much more rational and actually charming and flirty is a godsend. I got the biggest chills when Luffy just laughs as he is convinced that Buggy will kill him. It was perfect. Honestly, all the little additions that they are making to the show just feel so careful and rich. They add a lot of connectivity and dynamic to the world and the story in ways that, thanks to its vast source material make sense, and that is something I appreciate a lot. Someone pointed out that this season looks better than season 1 because they didn't need to spend so much money building a replica of the Merry, and that makes so much sense. I think that the massive success of season 1 also helped for this season to have better budget, but not having to build a replica of a ship has to have helped. I rewatched season 1 in preparation for this season and it was fun seeing them back to back, and noticing all the little details. Like, the song that that guy is singing in another language right before Bartolomeo finds Luffy is "My Sails Are Set" the Nami theme that we get to hear at the end of season 1. It's pretty cool that the song is now canonically real, and that they added it to the world.

We're back, and with new tricks! Haggling for starters! 😁 Smiled when I saw the straw hat in the thumbnail, nice - you and your brother really captured the One Piece spirit in the reaction and discussion, love it! And by that I mean the happy, follow your dream attitude that the core theme of the show carries so well thanks in large to Luffy being Luffy. I remember you saying in the Season 1 discussions that there's some event later that happens which gets you fully on board with Luffy, I can't remember what, maybe it was him putting his life on the line for a friend/crewmate, but he really brings out a lot of charm in the world and show for me! The characters are looking great in S2! Zoro for sure looks like he has been on top of his workouts, wow! Callum Kerr as Smoker was cast perfectly! Same with Julia Rehwald as Tashigi, and all the rest of the Baroque Works characters. But Smoker feels a bit more menacing than most of the baroque works, almost on the level of Mihawk maybe? I have only seen through the Alabasta arc - but I am totally ok with all spoilers, because the of length of the show, and how you mentioned a bit in the discussion there's so much to catch on earlier interactions - especially in the live action, when you know the details that occur later. Really enjoyed the discussion, thanks! The theory crafting of seasons and top 3 characters were fun to hear, even with my limited One Piece knowledge - looking forward to the entire season and more!

Fiiiinally time to watch this xDD Small correction to the start. Unless there's news I missed, season 3 isn't confirmed to come out next year. It is very likely, taken that they started filming it last August(?) I think. But it's not like *confirmed* yet. Also, there's no confirmation for 12 seasons either; the showrunner only said that they have "hope for 12 seasons." Which I don't think is too bad a number. If we think that season 1 covered almost 100 chapters, which is about one-twelfth of the manga currently out, then chapters. 12~ish seasons seems reasonable. But into the episode: At first, I was mildly unsure about what to make of Gold Roger's son's reveal this early on. BUT!! The more I thought of it, the more I liked it. I'm all for confusing live-ation onlyes >:))) I mean, with the son reveal AND the "he laughs, like Roger" reveal is SOO obviously gonna make many of them think it's Luffy. But if they're paying attention, they would know it's a misdirection. Since Logue town is full of "the 22nd anniversary" banners, etc., and Luffy is 17. The seeds are there for the people who pay attention. hehehe >:))) And I feel like the reveal was probably a technical decision as well? Since the reveal would be SO much later, it would look odd if.. Roger (and Garp) were suddenly noticeably older a day before his death than during his execution itself. And since it's the only flashback scene (that I remember?) with him in the jail cell with Garp. I think it was probably a good decision to film it now, rather than years later. which makes me think that they probably will need to recast Kid-Luffy's actor as well, when we get to his next flashback arc. My fav addition to this ep was Bartolomeo tho. Given how season 1 showed many things that "were there/happened, but were never shown in manga or anime, only told later by the characters." (like we saw Zoro killing Mr. 7 in ep1, the many familiar faces in Gold Roger's execution scene, etc) I was VERY hopeful that we would get a glimpse of Barty witnessing Luffy's "execution". But getting like EXPANDED CONTENT OF IT?? OMGH. I love Bartolomea so much. He's my pookie. And his actor managed to make him so cute o.O. And about the conversation regarding the backstory with Kid-Luffy, Sabo, and Ace. I do think it's very likely that anime onlies (unless they're theory crafters who really pay attention) would necessarily remember a foggy figure from s2ep1 that they saw for less than a millisecond when we get to that flashback in, like, how many years in the future? And even if they do remember, it would be just a theory for them, as they can't prove two characters to be the same based on their hats. Also, gotta say. Your brother has fun(?) taste. I don't think I have EVER heard anybody say that Beige and WAPOL are in their top fav characters LMAO But top 3 is hard... can't even think of who mine would be. There are just so many great characters, and I think my top 3 rotate around who was last relevant/who I last saw cool fan of... XDDD In general, this is just the best. Everything I hoped for and more.

So excited for this series and thank you for the clarification on S3 and the 12 seasons thing – I guess they were just speculations online; still fun to talk about! I’m all about this reveal from Gold D. Roger on Ac this early! Yesss, that is so true about the comments on the Anniversary dates! So cool - the Live Action onlies are going to be so stunned! XD I wonder how they’re keeping up. Yeah, I’m on board with this adaptation working within its parameters! I’m so glad you like Bartolomeo so much as well! We were really fed well with so much of “your pookie” hahaha - and yes, his actor made his character instantly endearing! Ahhh, I will say - the One Piece fans I know have LITERAL photographic memories - like they remember EVERYTHING. So to say that someone that’s caught up WOULDN’T recognize Sabo? That’s wild to me. I would respectfully disagree. Sabo is iconic if you know about his character! And yeah, my brother is like me with choosing some off the wall choices sometimes, but yeah, choosing only 3?! So hard!! There’s so many great characters; I’d be like you and constantly be revolving my top 3 as well. Thank you so much for the comment! I’m so excited for this season!

We are here for the haggling! 😀 I really am so happy to be able to geek out with my brother, who has a much better One Piece memory than me, haha!! Thank you so much! This show is just so much fun! And ahhhh, to answer your question on Luffy - I really didn’t FULLY commit to the Luffy Train until after the **SPOILERS START** The Time Skip, but that’s all I can say for now **SPOILERS END** Everyone is looking great so far and Zoro’s actor bulked up! Callum Kerr is sooooo good as Smoker! Julia Rehwald as well for Tashigi - this series knows how to cast! I do agree that Smoker is a little more menacing in this – and ooohhh, you haven’t seen past Alabaster? OH, there’s so much goodness to come!! 😀I’m glad you’re okay with spoilers – we’ll try not to get too crazy with it, haha!! Thank you so much for the comment and the kind words! It’s going to be a fun ride!

We are SO BACK! And I’m so excited! The wait has been real! I can’t believe we’re getting Ace mentions so early but I love it too – there’s going to be so much speculation with the live action-onlies! Bartolomeo also being brought in fits so well, too! I think Oda being tied into this helps out so much because he can find places where inserted moments and characters like this can happen. Sanji is such a gentleman and I love how the Live action is handling him! I’m glad the perverted moments have been calmed down to being more charming and flirty - yes, please! Culturally (since this isn’t an anime) changing up some of those trends has worked, here, too. Luffy’s laugh? PERFECTION, I agree! I really love the additions - they show such attention to detail and care. You can tell they’re trying to make this the best adaptation they can! And ahhhh, that makes sense that they budgeted better because a major expense was out of the way! Good point! And ooohhhhhh, that’s so cool about the song being sung! That’s so neat! Thank you for the comment and all that information!! I’m so excited for this series with us!

tinyTRUKK

Ah, I didnt mean that One piece fans who are caught up wouldnt regocnise Sabo. I think the detail of adding him was made for them afterall. What I meant, was that one piece live action *only* people might not notice. People who are only familiar with the live action and wont be reading the manga or watching the anime.

romaniablack

Oohhhhhhh, yeah, no I get what you mean now! Thank you for clarifying that! Yeah, there is SO MUCH in this series already that are such Easter Eggs for the manga readers and those that have waded through those thousands of episodes, hahaha!

Moominkomet

I just love the live action! I have barely read the manga, but I will someday. Just catching up.

romaniablack

The live action is SO fun! Man, the manga is LONNNNG, so the live action is honestly - to me - a perfect abridged way to experience the series, at least so far! Thank you for the comment!
