*SYMPATHETIC HEADPHONE WARNINGS*

It's the penultimate episode and I really struggled to find a thumbnail that didn't SPOIL something happening in this wild episode, with so many turns I was not expecting! And in the best way!

But I WILL say, I'm hyped for next week, but really scared that we only have one episode left...I'm not ready!

Omg I had the exact same thought when Zazie said Milly’s name! The ship, IT LIVES! Absolutely loved the scene with Meryl comforting Elendira. Would have been so easy for her to go the revenge route, especially given they were in the exact place, but she didn’t, and that was beautiful. Idk how happy others are that Stampede/Stargaze has such a different tone than other versions, but I really love it. With the way the world is these days I think we could all use more hope in our lives. Definitely agree with your thoughts on a little too much being put on Vash here. He’s made his mistakes, but Nai is also his own person. Vash shouldn’t be made to be entirely responsible for his brother’s loneliness or mental state. Especially when he had others, like Elendira, who would have gladly connected with him, but he refused them because they weren’t Vash. Nai’s loneliness is relatable and sympathetic, but it’s also a result of a lot of his own choices. I kinda feel an inversion of that when it comes to REM, I think? Vash was absolutely right to call her out for not speaking up and being really hurt by that, but I still feel some sympathy for her. Partially because it seems clear that she severely regrets her decision later, partially due to what I’ve been told about human psychology. Humans are pretty hard wired to want to be part of the group. It looked like REM wasn’t the only one to have reservations and not speak up about it, and I feel like that was because none of them wanted to risk being the only one to say anything and be branded as ‘the reason we missed out on this big opportunity’. I feel like this is partially the Doctors fault for not giving them any time to think about it and for asking for their opinions in front of the entire group. This is partially of why I find AU fics so fascinating. Because a change as small as ‘the Doctor asked for opinions one on one instead’ could have altered the whole story in a really drastic way. Wow, so many layers to this story and in this episode specifically! Your discussion really made me think, and I’m glad for that, thanks!

Loved the reaction and discussion! Cannot believe we’re at the penultimate episode! 😭 Various things I loved: Knives taking Legato out so easily and Legato’s absolute existential ecstasy, poor soul 💙 They definitely know what they’re doing with the dialogue 😆 Loved the design of the cocoon Vash was in and it being maybe an homage to the coffin design Elendira’s fight+chase with Meryl and Milly Meryl's choice to reach out! And the way we essentially get it right after Vash made such a different choice in the previous episode The Vash x Tesla scene made me tear up, especially Vash’s VA did such amazing work there Did not clock it until you pointed it out about those being the spines of the plants! My goodness I agree that the overall tone is more hopeful so far. I think we get great evidence of this in the line from the refugee camp (?): “Despair is the only end.” Also, I like that part of the messaging is addressing the minions like Legato, Emilio and Elendira: that the despot they love (and have done so much in the name of) does NOT care about them one bit. My favourite line in this episode is Wolfwood's: “Someone has to bring the fangs. Otherwise, someone else pays in tears.” Just love the on-going tension between Wolfwood and Vash’s ideologies and that we’re getting to see more of Wolfwood’s development. 🥰 Looking forward to the season finale and discussion! ❤️

THE SHIP LIVES, YES! Meryl choosing comfort over revenge was great! I really think we need more hope with a series like this as well! Yes! Although, yes, Vash has all this put on him when some others need to bear some responsibility as well - Nai’s actions have led to consequences that he hasn’t realized are connected to what he’s done and is still doing, yesssss. I’m glad that Vash calls out REM, but yeah, I feel sympathy for her because she did what Knives did not and actually atoned for her actions in the end. But yeah, the AU’s are really interesting with this series and all the “what if” scenarios, especially with side characters like The Doctor, as you brought up. Agreed – so many layers! Thank you so much for the kind words and comment – sorry it took so long to get back to you on here, but I appreciate it!

It’s crazy we’re getting to the penultimate episode with this comment - thanks for being patient as I caught up on these! 😀 Legato getting his wish at the hands of Knives - at least he got what he wanted? And THAT DIALOGUE - They knew. They knew. The little references to TriMax in this one was great! And Meryl reaching out – and it paralleling Vash’s different choice? Love that. But yeah, the imagery and the emotion coming from the Vash-Tesla-Knives scene was soooo good - such creepy imagery! And yessss, I’m glad we get the realization from our crew that the person in power they’ve worshipped does, in fact, not care for them. Very on point! And yeah, much more hopeful in tone than I expected. And yes, Wolfwood’s words resonate with Vash – that tension between them is one of my favorite parts about Trigun in general! Thank you for the kind words and comment! One to go!
