*MEMORABLE HEADPHONE WARNINGS*

How many times has this series made me tear up? Too many to count! And this episode is no exception, as Frieren, Fern, and Stark find themselves on a side quest that brings up a lot of nostalgia for our Elven Mage...and some questions for the future! It's a fantastic penultimate episode - but what else is new with this series?

Nothing wrong with getting a little emotional. But before I comment about the emotional aspect of this episode, I have something else I want to say. Frieren doesn't do a lot of action, but when the show does action, they do it as well as the show does everything else. It makes you feel like you are a part of what is happening in the previous two episodes and then in the dragon first this episode. It has been great to see a number of the characters from the mage trials in this season. First, we got Methode. Genau and now Denken. It was surprising that Denken was alone to me as well. He is the most powerful mage in the Empire yet he is there alone. Time will tell, I guess. As of righting this, I have not seen epsiode 10 yet. My brother and I getting together on good Friday to binge watch all ten episodes together. I loved the flashback to Himmel's party waiting in that small city. Eisen was just not doing a handstand, he is doing a pinky finger handstand. Then we do get back to our current party where you can see how close they are now. How comfortable they are with each other throughout their time waiting out the winter. I loved the Ferry man again, my second side character this season behind the Hero of the South. I wanted to tear up a little with the memoirs too. How many times do we encounter something and look back on something that happened when we were younger and can see that past as clearly in our mind as if we are watching a movie. It is even more poignant when those memories include someone who has passed. Frieren is viewing the past through Himmel's eyes. With Himmel and Heiter being gone (And Freiren realizing, in my opinion, how Himmel felt about her to some degree and also realizing how much she cared for Himmel, Heiter and Eisen), who would not get a little emotional? I loved how the Ferryman recognized this and told her to keep the book. A few thoughts, the show mentions how mages can track even non mages with detection magic. It has made me wonder (along with Stark's fancy named strikes) if warriors have a kind of mana too. Except with warriors, they can only use it to strike with a weapon and survive terrible wounds? As we finish this season, I did see a third season has been announced for 2027. I am happy that it is coming just wish it was not a year or so away. But, if the time they take allows them to make this series so excellent, I am happy to wait.

I believe the brief flashback when the Golden Land was mentioned takes place before she met the hero's party. She had the exact same flashback when the Hero of the South brought up the Seven Sages of Destruction, and she encountered him prior to joining the party. Given that she mentioned back in episode 18 that she had lost to four demons in the past, I suspect the figure in the flashback is one of them.

Hell yeah this is want i want from this show, a few seconds of Himmel watching his friends, lingering that brief extra moment on Frieren and making me tear up. I'll take that any time over any bombastic fight with dragons or four armed demons. Poor Denken, "is that Himmel?"... are you getting enough sleep Romania? :P Oh, and Denken is clearly going to that nice farm up north where he will spend the rest of his life (several decades) living in pure bliss, right, right? I have definitely seen the idea of throwing a stick in the air and let random chance or fate, whatever you want to call it, point the way. And who am i to argue? They did find the dragons so i guess it did in fact work here when that mana compass was on the fritz. And as C. D. mentioned the third season has been announced, although i believe it's set for the very end of 2027. Oh and not sure if you heard but there is a new Neon Genesis Evangelion in the works, i'll choose to be optimistic about that one until i have reasons not to.

Thank you for waiting so patiently for my comment but nice! That's great to note that and thank you for the comment!

I 100% agree that this series is at its best at the lingering angst, the woe of nostalgia and the lingering regrets – it’s so heartbreaking and beautiful! And to answer your question, that was the week before I left for our Nationals trip, so no, I was not getting enough sleep that week! XD Oh sure, Denken’s just going on a vacay - no big deal or anything! That’s hilarious about relying on the stick as a “point of fate” - I could imagine Frieren just letting Stark do that on a whim or for the lolz of it all, since the mana compass wasn't working. I’m going to talk about the third season in Episode 10, but I’m excited and YES, I’ve heard of the NGE works coming up - I was going to react to the trailer/anniversary footage, but I’ve gotten backed up from travels - at some point I need to get to it! Thank you for the comment!

Oh yeah, this show takes such care in every aspect, from the action to the emotional tug of Himmel making Elves feel things! It’s been great to reconnect to Methode, Genau, and Denken already – and yeah, Denken alone feels OMINOUS. I’m excited for you all to watch Episode 10 - thanks for being patient as I get through these comments now that I’m back from my trip! The flashbacks to the Hero Party are always welcome and EISEN! Pinky handstand is crazy! The Ferry Man is such a badass - he’s a real one! The NOSTALGIA of that memoir was so beautiful and REAL! And yes, Frieren being able to view through Himmel’s eyes is so sweet! I love she got to keep the memoir. That’s a cool note about warriors - that would be neat! I’m super happy for a third season, and if it’s the quality like this one, I’ll happily wait until next year! Thank you so much for the comment and kind words!
