Blue buddy

Fun fact in Japanese uncle roc has Aizen voice actor from bleach so you can say it’s all apart of his plan lol

Blue buddy

Also I wanted to ask if you could do a character arc or character ranking when you get to the end of the series if it’s possible please

There’s a theory, actually, it’s not really relevant,t and I don’t think it really changes much. But according to that theory, Shang Chao didn’t ask Xiao Qing out; she only lied about that because she wanted to give Yang Cheng a push to be like “now is your chance.” I don’t know if there’s anything that supports it, apart from us not seeing Shang Chao show romantic interest towards her. And I don’t know if I buy into that theory myself, probably not. But I do like the possible angst that by feeding into his jealousy, it accidentally was the cause behind Yang Cheng hesitating when saving Shang Chang later in the episode. Those Yang Cheng & Anaking parallels are sooo there!!! (I don’t remember almost anything about Star Wars, but from what you described, it seems pretty spot on!!) You were not alone in NOt-suspecting uncle rock at all. I was pretty convinced that Yang Cheng was barking up the wrong tree, and that the mastermind was not E-soul. BUT! I did not expect it to be Uncle Rock. AT ALL. (Behappy figured it out in like ep FIVE, I was so gagged because wtf? That wasn't even a mystery until ep6??) I feel your frustration at not knowing what the Old E-soul was thinking here, T.T. It was one of my major complaints about the episode. But I kinda (keyword kinda) like it from the POV that, probably, no one ever found out. Not Yang Cheng nor his manager. So it creates a nice narrative light on things. About how “his own thoughts didn’t matter, not for the plot nor the people around him,” and thus were unnecessary. He was there as E-soul, an image and concept, not as a person. (but I still wanna know what he was thinkingggg,,,) I 100% believe that Yang Cheng hesitated on saving Shang Chao. We can also see how his lighting-speed-thing die down when he started getting those flashbacks and returned when he thought about ”I won’t hesitate *anymore*”. Meaning he did hesitate involuntarily, his worst thoughts, jealousy, came to his mind, and they affected him. He has shown himself to be an easily jealous person, so it totally tracks. And insecurities hit when you least want them to. About your take [it I can't imagine Yang Chang looking at Uncle Rock and being like, "But wait, you mean to tell me it was you all along that orchestrated this?”] Well, I don’t think he needs to know that Rock did it, or anything like that. Rock can be all like “oh yeah, I have been the boss here, that boba shop was a hobby.” Which, well, would Yang Cheng buy that story? I wouldn’t. But.. we don’t know what sort of mental state he could potentially be in, like. Would he even care anymore? Or.. maybe he views Rock as his “last thing” and wants to believe whatever he says. WHO knows!! The rest is very heavily based on my own interpretation. About his character. Since this is very “show, don’t tell,” I am by no means assuming this to be perfectly correct.t One thing about Yang Cheng that has been consistent. Is that he can’t get *anything* done as Yang Cheng? The only times he gets something done are as E-soul. Be it asking Xiao Qing out or comforting her after they lost their shared friend. But with E-soul (mask on or mask off), he managed to perform for an audience, he managed to start texting with Xiao Qing, he started saving people, did those meet-and-greets, and eventually got revenge. And as the time passed, he became more and more “e-soul,” a hero. I think that when in ep6 Xiao Qing asked Yang Cheng to be true to himself, this is what she meant. That she had noticed his tendency to,, not be himself. And then, as Yang Cheng, he hesitated on saving Shao Chang. Giving him all the more reason to focus forward on becoming E-soul. I think that Yang Cheng is someone who doesn’t really like himself, maybe even hates himself. Yang Cheng is someone without trust value and has his insecurities TO THE MAX., which are valid feelings. But to expect someone who has lived with such thoughts their whole life, to understand that such feelings are valid? That’s a different question altogether. Especially as he has probably lived his whole life being thrown different accusations for not having trust value, and people, especially kids and teens, internalise that stuff really, really easily. But as E-soul? Then he’s not Yang Cheng anymore, he’s someone strong and capable, loved and trusted by countless people. Now people trust in him, so I assume he wants to be that e-soul worthy of their trust. Because if he can be E-soul, he doesn’t have to be Yang Cheng anymore. And his hesitation on saving Shang Chao was probably his breaking point. To him, it was probably just more reasons to hate himself, that “Yang Cheng is someone who hesitated on saving someone because of jealousy, what a horrible person,” And maybe even “they were targeting E-soul (because SC had his helmet on when he died), it should have been me.” And that’s where he (due to his own actions) starts losing what was important to himself, like Xiao Qing. Because he’s too focused on proving himself as an e-soul worthy of their trust. I think that in the outcome, the fight between the new e-soul and old-soul Yang Cheng died, but it wasn't the old e-soul who walked out.

Popy

I think he did hesitate. In the e-soul fight he says "this time I won't hesitate" and then we see the flashback with the scribbled face. "This time" implies there was a time when he did. I think he instinctually hesitated and could have saved shang cheng. That is why he feels so much guilt.

It's tragic that old e-soul was killed by the little kid he saved all those years ago

This episode gave me chills. Now after seeing this episode I believe heavily that Mr. Shang tried to recreate his son through Nice which is tragic and messed up on all sorts of levels. I could totally see Mr. Shang thinking my son was perfect he could do no wrong he was smart and driven and on finding someone who looked like him created a hero that would embody the success and perfection that his son did not get to achieve. We have no idea how Mr.Shang was before his sons death and what happens leading up to Year 41 with him. However, there are two actions that tell me he was a supportive person to a degree at least until his sons death 1) His support of his sons agency he clearly did not care that he was supporting a potential rival to his own agency and 2) In year 34 him leaving MG to support a local firefighter like Firm Man to be a hero at the end of the day why leave an already successful agency to support a nobody firefighter now there might be something scrupulous about it but at least before his son death these actions tell me that Shang looked out for and supported people with dreams and his sons death similar to how it has affected Yang Cheng has turned him into someone twisted and underhanded .

You are not the only one who saw the Darth vader comparisons. The entire fandom kept saying after this episode Batman backstory Spiderman tragedy to a Darth vader story. It's mind blowing to see how far we've come Also an irony that I see a lot of people pointing out is that Yang Cheng hesitated subconsciously to save Shang Chao but did not hesitate to kill his childhood hero which is 😩 Revenge is not the way and be careful who you trust is the take away.

sanime

My theory in regards to how old Esoul could have died from Yang Cheng's punch is that his Lighting Slash move is so volatile that when Yang Cheng punched him he could not escape the arena collapsing on him because his speed and agility had dropped heavily by the lower trust value so not the punch itself took him out but all the debris from the environmental damage of the Lightning slash. It wouldnt surprise me if the last time he used it he lost his arm and that's why he doesn't use it anymore because of how much a double edge sword it is

sanime

It was really fun after this episode to theorize is he Old Esoul is he Yang Chen and some people had the theory that he is essentially both but at the end of the day it doesnt matter because whoever is under there has given up their humanity and is now a soulless puppet for Uncle Rock. I feel that Old Esoul wanted to retire a long time ago but stayed because people had expectations that he didnt want to betray and if he is the one under there now he cant leave because there is no one to fill that spot. if it's Yang Cheng he believes that he has gotten rid of the heart of the problem and has thrown away everything to do so and the only person left to support him is Uncle Rock. Now Uncle Rock is an interesting character because as you have said he has made alot of assumptions and risks to have his plan work. Now I believe that his plan was to always get Yang Cheng because Old Esoul was not being cooperative and in the long run was harmful to MG. However so many assumptions and risks 1) he hired guys who were desperate for money to fix their van so he probably assumed that Yang Cheng would stop them or he would be there when they failed creating his path to be a hero 2) he got Shang Chao to be his manager which could have failed 3) he told the guy to kill the fake but I think even with that he assumed that the guy would fail to do so but it would act as the nail in the coffin for Yang Cheng to fully believe that Old Esoul is behind this and challenge him in some way. It is crazy how many tables he set up for this. Even if the guy who shot Shang Chao got caught his story would still plant that seed because he was told to kill the fake Esoul.

Hahaha , that’s amazing 😆 God that was so good.. I went and listened to the JP version of these episodes just to hear Shu Hayami … ❤️❤️ Such an amazing voice he has..

Girl 🤣🤣 You followed my thoughts process in Discord and 3 points made me suspect him IN EP 5 : 1 / The assistant that was with Uncle Rick during the theater representation in ep 5 around min 4:10 suddenly appeared in the same ep in MG HQ around 10 :30 when the interviews for E-soul doubles were on 2/ THEN MG Boss appeared in ep 5 at 11:30 from behind with the same hair color but especially the BANGS of Uncle Rock 3/ the guys that attacked Pomelo were … surprisingly, the same people that do business with Uncle Rock..and the other person on the line said : *I have a big Order*.. what are the odds … And he was too nice to be true 🤣🤣🤣 you know me I m paranoid in these kind of mystery shows 😛😛😛 But nonetheless I was pissed when it really appeared to be the Boss because how much of a PoS you need to be to scheme all these plots and destroy all these lives 😤 Directly or undirectky.. On purpose or not The only positive thing about him in these episode is that he is voiced by Aizen VA as someone mentioned in the comments 😂😂😂

tinyTRUKK

You can ezplain that all you want. But it doesnt make me any less amazed. Just take the compliment :P

Thank you girl 🥰Compliment accepted. You re adorable

Hello it’s a little bit early to talk about characters arcs tier list to Romania because it isn’t confirmed yet that it’s an anthology.. Will you plz ask this question a bit down the road in the show ?

w/smallscreen Computer

I was worried that my comment might spoil some plots without me realizing the spoiling, as I have finished the series, and I ended up not commenting lol. I recently did a quick refresher over the whole season to make sure that I'm not spoiling with my comment. I think that Yang Cheng was blaming himself for hesitating, but he was also blaming Old E-Soul, or the Mighty Glory behind Old E-Soul, as the one responsible for killing Shang Chao and covering up the evidence, since Yang Cheng was only fighting street thugs, yet he had a beef with Old E-Soul, someone who was backed by money and power. Old E-Soul was numb and wasn't good at responding to others with words. The two E-Souls were mentally negative, and they missed their chances to settle peacefully due to manipulations and their own weaknesses. I suppose that the Lin Ling vs God Eye situation was a hero vs villain situation, so that people are more willing to provide their outputs towards the hero, and also the fans for Nice/Lin Ling are younger people, while the older fans for Old E-Soul are losing their enthusiasm, as suggested in EP6; whereas Yang Cheng vs Old E-Soul is more like a tournament situation, and people are watching the two E-Souls fight like many other previous tournament fights. Yang Cheng left his two tickets at his home, so the three seats at the concert were purchased by Shang Chao, as Shang Chao also bought a ticket for Yang Cheng together. I feel like Rock wanted the killer to try to kill Yang Cheng at first, and he can use this event to brand Yang Cheng as Old E-Soul's threatened imitator in order to defame Old E-Soul directly or indirectly; however, the killer had accidentally killed Shang Chao, so Rock improvised his plan upon Yang Cheng's guilt and pushed Yang Cheng to fight against Old E-Soul. Rock can also manipulate the outcome through manipulating the Trust Value once the fight is on, as he is a higher-up in MG, and Old E-Soul was from MG and Yang Sheng was a freelancer, while there are no conflicts of interest for other companies to intervene in this fight between two E-Souls (although Rock did cause the death of Shand's son). If Yang Cheng didn't keep up in Rock's plan, I guess Rock would just sketch another plan to deal with Old E-Soul.

I’m catching up! Watching this episode to episode with you….. I am floored!

romaniablack

Thank you for patiently waiting for my comment! That is hilarious about Aizen being Uncle Rock's VA -- would have been a giveaway if I'd remembered that - love it! Thank you for pointing that out!

romaniablack

RIGHT?! WILD is a great word to describe this episode! Thank you for the comment and glad you're catching up!

romaniablack

It really is - a cruel twist of fate! Thank you for the comment and for being patient on my reply!

romaniablack

Yeah, that would completely make sense with the moment - I was wondering about that as well! Thanks for the comment and pointing that out - and being patient with my reply!

romaniablack

Yeah, some others have noted about that – with SC and XQ and that theory. But I would personally believe that, as well. Thank you on the Anakin/YC parallels! It’s DEFINITELY there! I’m sure Li Haolin watched the Prequel series at some point! XD BeHappy was above and beyond on the sus-train, because I was blissfully not even THINKING about Uncle Rock being the mastermind! That’s awesome! Oohh, I like the idea of OG E-soul just being an “image” and “concept” but not a person - but yeah, I agree; I wish we knew what he was thinking, as well. Going back and editing, I can see the hesitation as well with YC and SC in that scene, now. But yeah, I wondered in the discussion about that and if YC hesitated out of jealousy, only to regret it later. That is a fair point about YC not realizing Uncle Rock was the mastermind; that’s a fair point - leaving him as the only one he can rely one…yeah, great point, there! That is also a crazy cool point about YC only getting things “done” as E-soul! But I agree on YC and his insecurities, etc. to the max when he’s not E-Soul. That’s a great theory and point there; I love it! Thanks for that and the comment - sorry for just now getting time to read it and respond!

romaniablack

Detective Skills were ON POINT for this episode and your deductions! Those are great notices!

romaniablack

I totally agree with the concept of him trying to recreate his son through Nice, as well, which like I said in the discussion - is messed up. That is a good connection to Firm Man as well!

romaniablack

Yesss, you can definitely see those parallels!

romaniablack

Yeah, I could see from the way they set it up, how that happened – the lightning color just through me off as well – that’s a cool note about the arm loss affecting his want to use that technique as well, though; nice note on that!

romaniablack

Yeah, that really sucks that we don’t get to 1.) know if it’s YC or the OG one, still, but 2.) that it doesn’t matter – and I agree that if it’s OG E-Soul, it’s because he just doesn’t want to get away from the status quo because he’s so disillusioned and feels trapped by the system. If it’s YC, he’s thrown everything away and (like Vader) only has Uncle Rock to support him. But yeah, lots of risks taken by Uncle Rock in this plan! It’s…questionable writing to me, as I noted in the discussion, but the plot made it all work out! ;) Thanks for the comments!

romaniablack

Thank you for taking the time to make sure there wasn’t a spoiler - that means a lot and I really appreciate it! Thank you for the comment - that makes sense on the three seats as well! That also makes a lot of sense with how Uncle Rock was manipulating the situation – fair point, so thank you for noting that!
