Y'all, the hype is REAL for this one! I've not see a more "perfect" pilot episode for a series in a WHILE, but this one is checking off every box for me! All I can say is strap in, y'all, and let's ready ourselves for the ride as our protagonist Coco desires to be a Witch...but "be careful what you wish for" could not be more apt!

When I started reading this manga a few yrs ago, I was absolutely blown away by the artwork. I’m so glad that the anime is just as gorgeous! It absolutely sells this world and its magic system. Yes, the wait was worth it!!! I have worked with my hands my whole life. I was a fine arts major and have since needed my art skills for a lot of my work that is not art! So when you have a magic system that is based on drawing!?! Fantastic!! I remember, as a child, learning penmanship with a quill pen and ink. (We learned calligraphy in art class) It is harder than it looks! Practice, practice, practice! I think that some talent and lots of passion is key to enjoying the process of honing a skill. Anyone can learn to write with a steel quill pen, but will they enjoy it enough to get good at it! Hahaha, your basketball story, I can learn basketball, but I’m crap at it too! I have one volume I haven’t read, I have to read it soon! I may just re-read the series in conjunction with the anime. It’s sooooooo good! I believe they just published an art book too, I may be wrong about that. I may need to get that book because it is a gorgeous series! It kind of reminds me of illustrations from Winnie the Pooh or older illustrations like that. Illustrations from a children’s story. That’s the vibe I get from it. Oh, that cutting the cloth! I could feel that! The feeling of a sharp blade cutting through fabric like water! It’s a great feeling, magical! Talking about the masked witch…… I’m not saying a word!!! 🤐 Great questions about the books and wands being freely given out. Seeing the consequences of giving them to a small child, it’s like giving out guns with live ammo. The end result was horrible. Now Coco has harmed her mother. Now, if those roasted strawberries had a pie crust around them….. maybe some whipped cream? Oh that forbidden knowledge! I’ve always had mixed feelings about this. It can be a double edged sword and it is necessary for our lives. Heck, even crows learn in order to live! We are not the only ones that possess knowledge, but we are the only ones who have opened Pandora’s box and that knowledge can destroy or save lives. And why do they always blame women! Eve, Pandora….. just did a google search… apparently there are lots of goddesses of knowledge/ war in both western and eastern religions and cultures. Interesting. Can’t wait for the next episode!! It was the perfect pilot! Great reaction as always! Btw, my favorite color of ink is gold! ✨

I generally prefer when reactionists watch animes with subs. English is not my first language so when someone is reactiong to the thing only with dub and without subtitles I have hard time knowing what characters are saying. Funny thing, comparing Qifrey to Gojo is actually a topic that exist in the fandom and a lot of people do not like it, mostly because Qifrey was existing before Gojo (Atelier is older than Jujutsu Kaisen). I do not really care myself, but I get why a lot of people are tired of it, especially because it got to the point that WHA readers felt like it downgrades Qifrey's originality and importance (especially considering that most of the people who compared Qifrey to Gojo didn't watch WHA at all/yet). I need to say even if I do not care that much, it WAS a little bit annoying at some point. I like how Coco behaves like an actual child. When she joined the two boys and decided do spy on Qifrey herself I was like. Yeah, thats what twelve years old kid would do. It's not like Coco is not a responsible girl, but at her age she does not understand consequences of a lot of actions and dangers yet. Commenting on WHA reactions is going to be hard, because I feel like no matter what I'll say, comment or theoreticize it could be considered spoiler. But I think that says how good and well planned the series is, like everything matters and everithing happens for a reason there. Thats why I'm very exited for your reactions, because it would be so cool to see your theories get confirmed or not and to see you comment on so many different topics that this series touch. There was someone on the twitter who noticed after watching the pilot that in the anime, music happens only when the magic happens and I think that was a wonderful idea from the studio (or maybe the author who was working with a studio on the anime and oversee everything). I wonder if theyre going to keep it in the next episodes, too. Natsuki Hanae also is Vanitas and Okarun. Dude has RANGE. But I, personally, imagined Qifrey's voice a little bit different. I hope I'll like it more after watching more episodes.

It's here, it's here, it's here! I'm so excited!!!! The first time I heard of this anime was about a year ago, as well, and I've been waiting very excitedly for it ever since. This first episode did not disappoint one bit; it is the perfect pilot episode, I agree. And I love that upon rewatching the first episode you catch so many little details to just continue enjoying the show. I'm only two episodes in, and I barely know anything of the story as of yet, but I am so obssessed already. Yes! My brother and I are watching this one together, and we both agreed that this show feels like Frieren, but I also think it feels like FMA. The world feels very much like Frieren, ancient and full of a wondreous kind of magic; and the magic system with it's practicality and accessibility, with it's cost and consequences reminds me a lot of FMA, plus, Coco losing her mother because she was tampering with something that she loved but didn't fully understand reminds me of the Elric brothers even if the circumstances aren't quite the same. The arquictecture of this show is something I could gush about forever, already. I love the aesthetics of it, it's just so pretty and makes it feel like the magical world it clearly is; but now that I rewatched the episode with your reaction I'm just struck with how it makes so much sense. The way everything is made in a circular way, the houses been rounded almost like Hobbit's houses, the windows are circles, the pond is a circle, and even the cobblestones that Coco walked in when she was a kid and first got her magic book being circular, because magic needs a circle to work, because there's the potential of magic in every corner, so that a witch can draw the magic upon things without it being suspicious is *wonderful.* Natsuki Hanae is one of my favorite VAs out there right now because his range, and his talent when doing very intense scenes is amazing. Hearing his voice as Qifrey was such a treat. Also, there's another character he plays that you know, he is Okarun in Dandadan. Coco is such a sweet child. I love her already, and must protect her at all cost. I love her zest for life and how much she enjoys what she does even if she dreams of being a witch. Her excitement when she first draw that magic circle was adorable and so relatable xD I just hope she doesn't lose her innocence and love for life through her trials in the story, that would be a tragedy. Another thing I'm in love with is how this magic system is so easy to grasp. When I watched the first episode and we reached the point of Coco drawing that first magic circle... and nothing happens, I literally turned to my brother and told him that nothing had happened because the circle was incomplete and the lines were not touching (as you can see even before it's super focused on that detail) and then the ink splatter falls and completes the circle and I literally screamed. After watching complicated magic systems like JJK's where I can barely understand what's going on, it's very refreshing and a little thrilling that I can actually see what's going on in this one even before the show fully explains what's the problem is. Gosh, that moment when Coco casts the forbidden spell and Qifrey appears to save her is STUNNING. I think I rewatched it three times in a row, and I'm still not tired of it. Not only the animation was gorgeous, but the emotionally of it was well conveyed. I still get teary eyed watching it. I can't wait to see where this show goes, if it keeps the quality of this first episoded then it'll be an amazing show from beginning to end.

NO…….I’m totally not sour that Tiger&Bunny lost in the polls to THIS magical series….No no no. I am not sour. Tiger&Bunny totally had a chance!!! 😅😅😅 😂😂😂 in all seriousness, I am glad. It’s peak ART. And since this summer season is so stacked, Ace of Diamond, Dorohedoro, Akane-banashi, Dandelion, Ganbare Nakamura-Kun, Golden Kamuy S5……. I was a bit overwhelmed and paralyzed. If this show hadn’t won, it probably just stayed in my Watchlist for all eternity.

To be fair, I will keep Tiger & Bunny in contention for the shows to watch because I REALLY want to eventually see it! But in any case, thank you for the comment - I am SO excited to see this series and the artwork and story so far is GREAT!! Yes, so many good ones out there - I hope I can get to Nakamura and Dandelion this summer, maybe, and Golden Kamuy eventually! :D

I am SO hyped for this show, already!! Already well worth the wait! That’s awesome your brother is watching with you - I can see the Frieren comparisons and that’s interesting about FMA – with the mom situation in this, I could see that, though! The SETTING and architecture is so gorgeous; I’m sure in the manga, it’s beautiful! But yes, the aesthetic is specific and very detailed. I really love Hanae as Qifrey – and ooohhh, OKARUN! Okay, I can totally hear that, now! 😀 Coco is a sweetheart and yes, she must be protected; I just love how relatable her character is from the start in this. And yes, the magic world building is REALLY easy to get ahold of – hahahaha, well, I mean, Gege is so STEM-brained and practically a math teacher…he’s just showing off! ;) But I like how accessible the world building is in this one already! The moment Qifrey saves her from the forbidden spell cemented that this series was going to be SPECIAL, and I cannot wait to see where the show goes to from here! Thank you so much for the comment!

The artwork, I’ve heard, is outstanding! After season 1, I’d love to look at some panels! But yes, this is such a great adaptation right out the gate! My mother and grandmothers are sewers and crafters - I love drawing and art and editing, but I am not the best sewer to be fair. I love that tie to “magic” with these arts, though! And YES - practice is SO KEY. I definitely think it involves passion and some natural skill, but without practice, you won’t progress as far as you might need/want. An art book of this series sounds incredible – and ooh, with the pop up storybook elements, I could SO see the Winnie the Pooh comparison! The connection to a children’s story and the tie in to Coco as a child - it all fits so well! Great connection, there! And nothing beats the slide of a pair of scissors through fabric or wrapping paper! 😀Can confirm! I’m reserving a lot of thoughts towards the masked witch and their actions; we shall see! Okay, and Roasted Strawberries with whipped cream and pie crust? NOW you’re talking! The Forbidden Magic aspect has so many angles it could go in with a narrative - I’m VERY curious where we’ll go in this series – whether it will be an actual bane that shady figures have hidden for their own corrupt reasons, or if it is actually a scary force that folks shouldn’t truly mess with – we shall see! I honestly prefer subs as well, but I am excited to watch the dub for this one off screen - I heard Qifrey’s VA has a British accent and that…has me intrigued! But yes, Hanae has RANGE! What a talent! That range makes me excited to see what he does with the role. And that’s funny that Atelier came before JJK - what a world! But no, no, I don’t mean it to downgrade Qifrey – just a fun point of comparison. Coco is so relatable and I love her character and how it’s portrayed so much already. She is definitely a character I’m instantly rooting for in this! I feel that on not spoiling - but I’m excited to get into this season and see what is going on - at least we can talk per episode about what was great about it! And ooohhhh the music happening with the magic is SO GOOD! I love that little observation! Thank you for the comment and pointing that out!

So I have finally decided to watch this… I have thoughts. Coco and her mom’s house is circular and I can’t help but think that means something about Coco’s background. Now I am off to buy the manga to read when we reach the end of this season.
