You screaming "QIFREY WHAT ARE YOU DOING QIFREY" was so wonderful. Now you can feel like a proper member of a wha fandom, because thats literally all of us LMAO Please check Olruggio VA! His voice is sooo good. I really like how the more episodes you watch the more you can see thats not some utopic magic world where everything is colorful rainbow and unicorns thanks to the magic, but its just as complex and corrupt as our real world can be. The Knights of Moralis in my opinion are a very good example with how Easthies wanted to erase Coco's memories without even asking her about what happened. And with how excluded Tartah feels with his disability. He is still in witch community and works in his grandpa's shop but he himself feels like he can't be a witch through the silverwash. Even though we could think that recognising colors may not have to be the most important thing ever when the ink is usually black. Good lord there is a lot of things I wanted to say but I just feel really bad physically and I feel like all of my thougts are running from me. I'm with you because I also like both Coco x Tartah and Coco x Aggott. I think both of these ships can we both very cute and interesting. Sadly in a fandom people fight a lot over these two ships which made it difficult to find fancontent without someone shitting on the second. For me Qifrey and Easthies sends an ex vibes, but not an "ex boyfriends" but more like an "ex situationship" hahahah. Though I, personally, ship Easthies with someone else. From the Knights Moralis my faves are the ginger one and the blond girl. Can't wait for anime to, generally, show more knights in the future. If I know correctly, the studio is working on the second season. I may be wrong, but for what I have read, the studio planned two-course anime but has some production problems and we get the one 13 episode season instead of two. But the second one is in production. Just, probably, we wont get like a 6 months break but longer. Manga has enough material for the second season to exist, so I'm in good spirits about it. I'm waiting for it, because I just know you are going to go INSANE over some of the things! This series is so good and well planned and the more you know the more you want to scream. There is so much in this episode that I would like to comment but I know I need to wait till you watch more of this series without spoiling or suggesting anything. Even things like commenting on some theories without comfirming or deconfirming them could be tu suggestive about the future plot. Qifrey really is just. Doing and saying things left and right I want to shake him. Hi argues with Knights about reclessly erasing Cocos memories and then he erases Nolnoa memories. He adopts 4 young apprentices and promises Coco he will protect her but he proceeds to be the most recless teacher/guardian ever. He scares Coco about erasing her memories himself in the first episode because she broke the law but then proceeds to broke the law on the daily basis. He just. Really is a. A Character. Some character for sure. I love how beautiful this adaptation is. Even without the most "action" scenes its still animated with such a care and heart. I wish ore adaptation would look like that.

a bit of a fun fact the dad that you said sounded like Roy Mustang is actually a ENG VA by the name of Alex Hom and he the ENG VA of Gaoshun for The Apothecary Diaries same as the JP Va for that series as well

Omg I had the exact same thought when you questioned if Coco’s dad was a witch! What if the masked witch is Coco’s dad? That would explain why he’s so fixated on her, and maybe that butterfly Coco followed was actually an illusion to lure her to him! That would be so wild! Great minds think alike I suppose ;P That does make me think of something that’s been on my mind for a while, just how deep does memory erasure magic go? If a witch did secretly take a non-witch as a spouse, and got caught, what happens to the spouse? Unless the witches also raid their house there would be stuff that doesn’t belong to the spouse in their home. Do they forget the witch but wonder why all this stuff is here, leading to the haunting feeling they’re missing someone? Or is there some suggestion based stuff baked into the magic to get them to not question any oddities related to the erased memories? I hope we’ll get to find out more about it someday. And yeah! Tartan’s Silverwash brings up some really interesting stuff about ableism. Like, just based on the info we have so far it doesn’t seem like Tartah should be barred from all spell work. As long as the paper and ink have enough contrast he should be able to do simple spells at least, probably more if just given extra help. Yet he’s still barred from being a regular apprentice. Makes me think of various accommodations that could make things easier for people in the workplace, and wouldn’t be hard to give the worker, but they don’t get them for various BS reasons. Thanks for the video!

I think one of my favorite things about Witch Hat is just how much you're able to question the Witch Society as a whole the more you progress. A line from this episode that has stuck with me is Qifrey saying; "One problem with witches is how unaccommodating we are of exceptions.". This really does just sort of sum up...everything we've seen so far. You can see how a society like this would create someone like Easthies. I've always considered him a very rigid and extreme version of a mentality that is probably pretty common in witch society. Rules cannot be broken, laws must be upheld - and most important, no exceptions! And Tartah....ughhhhhhhh. It's obvious that he knows his stuff, he works with everything everyday! He's allowed into witch society but...what? Are they expecting him to just be satisfied where he's at while everyone gets to advance? All on account of his Silverwash? It's a sad roadblock to see, especially because it does seem entirely based on the lack of accommodation instead of anything actually prohibiting him from moving forward. And sadly, it's a roadblock we see happen to many people in our world too. Qifrey....oh Qifrey. What a character you are. His ability to switch between threatening and soft-spoken is one of my favorite things about him. I especially love how the dub did the scenes near the end of the episode. The difference in how he talks and conducts himself is just *chefs kiss*. Part of me wonders if he's been planning to erase Nolnoa's memories since the dragon incident and justified it with a thought like "ah, this might become a problem..." or if this was a last second decision on his part. He does seem to like Nolnoa just based off the few interactions they've had, so I can't imagine this was a decision he made lightly. But it definitely brings into question just how far he's willing to go.

This episode is fantastic and getting more of this almost creepy Qifrey is so much fun, honestly. I'm so glad the whole Knights Moralis thing was handled swiftly, but jeesh, they really didn't wait to see what had happened and just decided with very little evidence that Coco needed to have her memories erased, not problematic in the least. I don't think it was the memory eraser thing that repaired the penants of the Knights Moralis, I think they had a tool at the top of them with a spell that repaired them already integrated. I supposed if those penants are their main weapon, it's a smart choice to build them with a built-in repair option. Easthies telling Coco to "not lose the abilities that she has just begun to learn" I think alluded to him realizing that she is probably the outsider that is becoming a witch now. I think it was in around episode 2 or 3 that Agott told Coco that all apprentices had rough hands and permanently stained fingers because of all the practice they have already done to become apprentinces, and when Easthies examined Coco's hands he noticed that she only has the beginnings of calluses and hands that aren't ink-stained yet; which is also why I think Qifrey interrupted his examination so swiftly, so that Easthies wouldn't get more proof of who Coco is. From that other Knight Moralis saying that it's impossible to tell what happened at Coco's house because of the coccoon Qifrey built around it (which knowing a bit more of Qifrey now seems 100% premeditated now) it seems to me that they are looking for the outsider, but they have no idea who it is. Ever since the masked witch said that they were leaving Coco with a little help that Qifrey wouldn't be able to give her I have been wondering what on earth they had done, and it never occurred to me that they would have tampered with her ink bottle. It's rather chilling that they are pouring their own blood to make the ink more powerful. As a slight tangent, that sandy, desolate place the mask witch is at, with all the stark, big, white stones reminds me of Neon Genesis, and how Kaoru was in the moon, is all I'm saying. I know that Qifrey intended to be reassuring at the end telling Coco that he will "do anything to protect her" but, man, after seeing how he has treated Nolnoa twice now it's a very chilling statement. This man will stop at NOTHING to... protect his students? Find the mask witches? Honeslty, I'm not entirely sure of what his objective is, but it is clear that he has a very bendy line of things he won't do. Nolnoa is the true victim of this episode. Gosh, I got such a chill when Tartan reentered the room and finds his grandpa bent over, quietly picking up the scattered bottles. For a second, with how silent everything was, Nolnoa almost looked like he felt lost, and I could have sworn that Qifrey had gone too far and erased a lot more of his memories than just the light. After he seems to recognize Tarta just fine and just be confused about the bright light I took such a deep breath because, yes, that's awful and bad, but somehow it isn't as bad as the chill in my spine was telling me it was going to be. Tartan having this Silverwash disability is super interesting. For one, I really don't understand why the witches have, apparently decided that he won't be able to draw spells just because he sees everything silver; I mean, he can still just fine, it's just the tone of the world that is different. But, I mean, yeah, it checks with this inflexible, rigid, prideful society that we are being presented. I so understand your dilemma because I, too, love the idea of Agott and Coco going from frenemies (more because of Agott than anything else) to lovers so much. BUT Tarta and Coco make such a cute little couple as well filled with innocence and the weight of prejudicies thrown at them. I love both a lot. Overall, I just love how in this way more chill episode we still have so much to dissect from it. It's really cool and rewarding.

Thank you!! I will definitely note that in the Episode 9 intro! :D I appreciate the comment!

romaniablack

Thank you!! I will definitely be doing them - planning them out as we speak for starting in July! :D

romaniablack

Yes, after watching Episode 8's dub, I looked him up to be sure and will be talking about this in the Episode 9 intro! Thank you!! :D

Qifrey was DEVIOUS this episode, wasn’t he?! I’m glad the fandom is with me on that. I will have to check out Olruggio’s VA, thanks! OH, I didn’t think it was a utopic magic world from EPISODE 1. I think my discussions have done a good job breaking all that down since the beginning, this week included! I definitely love to multiship and am all about the other two – folks need to just get more open minded about it! *Le Sigh* I can totally get the “ex sitauationship” vibes with Easthies and Qifrey and I can’t wait to learn more about the Knights of Moralis in general. I definitely want them to take their time with that second portion - I get nervous when studios “rush” to meet demand and then it’s not as high quality. But I’ll trust the process. And yes, thank you for not spoiling! That is greatly appreciated! 😀 Qifrey is SOMETHING that is for sure – I have so many thoughts on him and I cannot wait to see where his character takes us – thank you for the comment!

romaniablack

After thinking about it – I’m kind of hoping that it’s NOT her dad, because that seems a little cliche, but if it is, at least we were thinking of it beforehand! 😛Maybe an uncle! XD Yeah, I wonder if they can adjust the “lines” on the memory erase spell to erase up to certain points – Qifrey only erased that one moment of Tarteh’s grandfather’s memory, but the Knights of Moralis seem to be able to erase ALL with magic, so how does that work? It’ll be interesting to see where it goes! And the whole Silverwash thing is fascinating as well – I am going to talk more about what you said in Episode 9, but it is a bit BS to ban him from being a witch for that…so much to talk about this next week! Thank you for the comment; we’re on the same wavelength for sure!

romaniablack

Oh yeah, I’ve been questioning them since EPISODE 1 but I’ve enjoyed my discussions and how in-depth we’ve been breaking things down. That line from Qifrey, especially, as I discussed this week! And Tartah, I feel for our dude! There’s more I’ll say about him this coming week in the reaction and discussion and I hope folks enjoy what I have to say about it! And yeah, Qifrey – I think that he had in the back of his mind to always erase Nolnoa’s memory…it was just a matter of “when” and the moment he got the actual “Clue” he was looking for and Nolnoa had 1.) nothing else to contribute to him and 2.) knew too much, that kind of sealed the deal. But yeah, he’s been fun to discuss as well! Thanks for the comment!

romaniablack

Qifrey being creepy and morally silver is so fun, I agree! And YES, glad the Knights Moralis bit was handled the way it was - that was a major source of stress for me going into this week! But yeahhh, them acting with hardly any evidence is concerning, indeed. That is a fair point that they didn’t use the pendant to fix their pennant! That’s a good observation on Easthies, especially as he learns LATER on that she’s the one who supposedly used the forbidden spell. And a good point on why Qifrey stopped him as he was investigating - thanks for pointing all that out! And YES, Qifrey for SURE made that barrier around the house for a reason! Now, the only thing I have with your theory there is that The Great Hall know who Coco is – Altair mentioned it as well, so I think that the Knights Moralis surely know that Qifrey is housing her as an apprentice; just now they know WHICH little girl it is. That green hair does stand out. T_T Yesss, I had no idea it would be the ink bottle tampered with; I assumed it’d be a casting seal on her hat or something – this is much more ominous, though! AND YES OKAY - I kept trying to think what that sandy beach reminds me of…NGE with Kaworu! YES, I see the connection there 100%! Yeah, Qifrey has to protect Coco now, because her fate is tied to his – if her memories get wiped, so do his. But he honestly has an obsession with hunting down the Brimmed Caps…why? To what end? I love the mystery surrounding it! But yes, he’s very shady with his actions, even if they are to protect Coco and the girls. And I feel for Nolnoa and Tartah - for all Qifrey went on about losing memories and how bad it is…he had no issue taking Nolnoa’s to save himself. Oof. And Tartah with the Silverwash is super interesting; agreed! I have more to say about that in Episode 9, but the inflexibility of the Witch Society is…something! And yes, the love triangle of Agott and Tartah with Coco – let’s just multiship them together! 😛 Right? I did both ships so much! Thank you for the comment and kind words! I can’t wait to see what happens next!
