*MOTHERLY HEADPHONE WARNINGS*

It's rare that I get a series commissioned on the channel that 1.) has such a creepy and downright unsettling ambiance and 2.) makes me IMMEDIATELY stop, buy the next volume, and react to it immediately! But this series did that and I'm sort of hooked now...this series is CRAZY in the most subtle way!

Username123, you commissioned an ADDICTIVE series! I get it now!

Thank you for watching with me and for all the support!

I was so happy when I saw the title and it said volume 1-2!, blood on the tracks is so hard to put down, when I first read it I read the whole thing in like 2 days. My heart goes out to people who had to read this as it was coming out😂. I know you said you like to go into series with as little information as possible so I didn’t mention that it is a psychological horror manga, I think its better to go into this manga without knowing that, so the little creepy and odd moments that build up make you question what’s going on . And then the big moment at the end of volume 1 with seiko pushing shige hits hard after the slow build up. I’m generally not the biggest fan of horror, but seiko is genuinely so creepy and off putting in this manga. Shuzo oshimi Is very talented, idk how he is able to make her face look so creepy even in scenes where her face isn’t even distorted, like you can tell just by looking at her that something is just a little off.

🎉🎉! so glad to hear you'd want to continue with this manga. it's very special to me! a side note on the mother-son enmeshment: recently, the word "emotional incest" has become more & more increasingly used to refer to this intrafamilial maladaptive dynamic, in case you wanted to do even more research. (though that mission prep healthcare "checklist" informs more than enough already!) also maybe worth noting that shuzo oshimi, in interviews, has stated that this manga is at least in part semi-autobiographical. a few public statements regarding that, & some of their thoughts on the approach they took with blood on the tracks (source: the 2018 konomanga interview + 2024 anime news network interview): q: you mentioned before that you had an actual experience where your mother made you break up with the first person you had a relationship with when you were in junior high school. a: yes, at first, i tried to present the story as autobiographical or non-fiction, rather than in a narrative fiction format. i thought that would make it easier to express the problems i was facing. however, i felt that this approach would truncate the story somewhat (...) this may be my nature, but i feel that the truth escapes me. there are many writers who can draw well, but if i draw only the truth, i end up coming across as fake. i feel that i can portray a more realistic picture if i mix a bit of fiction in it. so, i am not afraid to draw or talk about things that actually happened to me, but at this stage, when the manga is not yet finished, i think that if i say too much, what i want to convery in the manga will not be conveyed well. q: that must be tough to write & draw, right? a: but it is fun. it's not that i'm drawing/writing in a happy mood (laughs). my body does not feel good & i stutter & hesitate, but the feeling of opening a lid that has not been opened before is enjoyable. perhaps this is the most enjoyable manga i've ever drawn. maybe it's only because i'm able to get it out in the form of manga that i'm getting by. - q: blood on the tracks impressed me with how much tension was built into every moment, even at points when there was very little happening. how do you maintain such an intense atmosphere in such a slowly-moving narrative? a: when i started to draw blood on the tracks, i decided to draw strictly from the MC's perspective, so what you see in the manga is through the lens of the main character. in my attempt to show his perspective, sometimes i express him experiencing tunnel vision, etc (...) the slowed-down pacing is also a part of his experience. q: what qualities were important to you when writing the character of seiko, the mother? a: even the illustration of seiko, when i draw that character, is also drawn from how seiichi, the main character, sees his own mother. i really wanted to express his vision in the art. i decided to try to draw her as beautifully as possible, as if it's almost scary. - anyway, even if it is not as queer of a pride month commission, i had a lot of fun ! thank you username123 for the commission :) & given some of oshimi's public statements re: their gender & sexuality, still a great author to read during pride. this is a beautifully written story & i hope you continue to have fun with it!

Yessss, I could not stop – this series is like Pringles and it has been hard stopping after volume 2! I totally can see how you’d read the whole thing in 2 days! And yes, I think not knowing the genre made the reveal so much more powerful! The build up was So good!! Especially at the end of volume 1, like you said! And yesss, I’m not usually a jumpscare horror person, but this was great – the creepiness feels so organic and yeah, you just FEEL like something is not quite right, even when she looks 100% “normal.” It’s been such a great surprise and I hope to get to more volumes of this series in the future! Thank you so much for the commission and introducing me to this series!

Ooohh, the “emotional incest” is an intriguing term to bring to this! Nice, I might have to take note for that! That is TERRIFYING that this is semi-autobiographical! Thank you for the Q and A – if I get to react to Volumes 3-4, I will have to note these! Thank you for all that and the comment!
