This series never quite goes in the direction one expects it to does it? :P Gotta admit the hiding place is clever. I would certainly never think to look in an oven for a secret passageway! Though having something like that in your house would be super cool! Thanks for the video and discussion!

I love this series because it does NOT do what we expect -- 100% agree! And yes, the hiding place is so cool - I would not have thought of that to hide the weapons in this "faux kitchen," either. Thank you for the comment and kind words!

I don't know why Shen Qiao used the name "Shan Qiaozi", but most likely, the "shan" he uses is the character for "mountain". The character for "qiao" in Shen Qiao's name has a similar meaning ("the tallest peak"). "Crouching tiger, hidden dragon" is a very common phrase. More or less, it means that there are unknown masters where you least expect it. The unknown master usually has a public or known identity that is far removed from the skill in question, allowing them to escape notice and keep their disguise. An example would be the abbott in Bailong Monastery. Everyone (characters and readers alike) expected a regular abbott, but he turned out to be a skilled former disciple of Bixia Sect. Aaaaand you have now unlocked the achievement, "Shen Qiao asks a grieving child for relationship advice"! Come collect your two nickels! 😂 It's somehow both funny and sad that he has to rely on the feedback of children, because he has no peers his age. The only one he has is Yan Wushi, but you can't ask for advice from the person who is causing you to look for advice. Yuwen Song breaks my heart every time, because he's SO YOUNG. Every time he thinks back on what happened but tries to act mature about it, it kills me. 😭💔 He's such a kind boy, because even through his grief, he's trying to help a grown man sort through his feelings and relationships by knocking on the memories of his late family. 🥹 Yan Wushi is such a dog. 😂 Now that he's realized his feelings, he takes any opportunity he can get to touch and fondle Shen Qiao. The craziest part is that Shen Qiao seems to be getting desensitized to Yan Wushi's inappropriate touches. Shen Qiao has gone from passing out from sheer anger from a kiss to "Stop fondling me, I'm trying to listen!" He's constantly moving his bottom line for Yan Wushi— a fact that Yan Wushi loves exploiting. 😈

Rhast

I assume the Emperor killed Yuwen Song family and then told the public it was suicide. The closer Shen Qiao gets to 'enlightenment' and the better his marital arts become, the more like an immortal he looks. I love it. It feels like he's actually cultivating to immortality, and you dont see that much. Yan Wushi is such a jerk. But I guess this is nicer teasing than before. Did Shen Qiao give them a ship name?!

romaniablack

Oh yeah, that was what I thought with Yuwen Song’s family as well! And yes, I love Shen Qiao looking more and more ethereal as we go! ANd yessss, Yan Wushi is such a jerk, but he’s at least more “nice” about it, now! :P And Shen Qiao giving them their own ship name without realizing it! Hilarious! Thank you for the comment!

romaniablack

Thank you for noting the name meaning! That helps, and it’s nice to know that the “Crouching tiger, hidden dragon” is a more localized phrase. WHAT an achievement unlocked! Shen Qiaoooo hahaha! It is kind of sad that he relies on the kids for advice, but hey, they’re probably the most reliable! And so true about YWS – our boy needs Bian Yanmei ASAP! XD That is SO true and good to point out with SQ and that “altering line” of appropriate to him! These chapters were so much fun! Thank you for the comment!

What a good set of chapters! That last one is one of my favorites! 'The more Shen Qiao saw, the clearer his heart became.' - that line is basically the encapsulation of Shen Qiao'a character ahhhh!!!! It's so good!!!! Everytime Shen Qiao adopts another child, I can't help but think back to the brief glimpses we've had of Qi Fengge and how he himself treated Shen Qiao - it's so sweet, because that kindness he was shown as a child is being payed forward, tenfold. Daoists practice tranquility, but also karma and reciprocation - in this way, Shen Qiao is keeping the memory of his shizun alive. It also really makes you understand why Qi Fengge would have chosen Shen Qiao to succeed him. As he says - the first neccessity to being accepted as a disciple is good character, then ability. I think Shen Qiao's master would be so proud of him and how much he's grown. 😭 Also!! One of my favorite parts of their relationship is how both Yan Wushi and Shen Qiao long for a thrilling fight - even in this, they're each other's equal. A battle couple is a power couple!! 👏 I wonder if part of the reason why Yan Wushi pretends he's forgotten Shen Qiao is because it's been four months, and then how they came to be seperated - has Yan Wushi thought of the way he sacrificed himself and wondered 'why?' Why did I do that? Shen Qiao already challenges his worldview just by virtue of being who he is - but now Yan Wushi is challenging his worldview *himself*, and I think that must be intensely polarizing, even for someone like Yan Wushi. So maybe he regresses a little and puts up a front when they reunite. Even when he goes to the rooftop, Yan Wushi hides his face behind a veil - as if trying to distance hinself from Shen Qiao. But then Shen Qiao tears that veil away, and the name A-Qiao slips out; and suddenly, Yan Wushi isn't pretending anymore.

SUCH a good set of chapters and what a way to start out Volume 4! I love that line about Shen Qiao as well!! Shen Qiao definitely wants to pay it forward with that love that was given to him by Qi Fenge! I agree, I think QF would be super proud of him as well! And yeah, both YWS and SQ wanting a thrilling battle is great! Power Couple!! We’ll get an explanation from YWS in a future chapter set for this moment, but you present a great perspective too! Thank you for the comment!!
