This episode was everything, surprised me when i watched for the first time but idk why i was surprised since this anime it's so great.

Loved the reaction and discussion! Yet again, so much to touch on in discussing just this one episode! 🥰 Various things I loved: The opening scene with Makio’s friends, just looks like the best time to me 🥰 Everyone’s unique hairstyles and the way they change as we see them across time Me back in school would have definitely had a crush on Mimori 😆 Asa showing Makio her lyrics and Makio not being able to handle it 🤣 Juno-san! And how Makio is so protective when talking about what Juno’s mother said Yes! Most of all in this episode I adore, adore, ADORE its construction! 🥰 The back and forth between times, conversations, memories, impressions. Just so masterful! The show does so well with its emotional arcs and trajectories which develop throughout each episode, one of the best examples of the hermeneutic spiral I can think of in anime. Also a tiny moment I love is Kasamachi’s approach to Asa’s little ‘outburst’ when she says that he’s “spoiling” Makio and should be “more strict.” I do think she subconsciously intends this to punish Makio a bit 😅 (since Makio has been a bit frazzled and busy) as well as ‘help,’ and is trying to get an ally in Kasamachi in this. And Kasamachi side-steps: he could have gone the ‘Asa, you should not say things like that’-route or tried to explain why what Asa said wasn’t a kind impulse, but he instead doesn’t even acknowledge the slight underlying nastiness of Asa’s statement, he just talks about himself and his experience and what he WANTS to do. A tiny, tiny thing (and maybe even more to do with Kasamachi not feeling like it would be his place to address Asa ‘negatively’), but just a great handling of that moment. Reminds me of Daigo back in episode 2 with the gyoza - redirecting a small moment with such grace! Loved the way you deconstructed that scene of everyone in the pitch-black landscape and the ways Asa is isolated. By themselves none of those things happening with the people around Asa are out of the ordinary, or directed towards her, or even specifically neglectful – it is just life moving as it does. But it is so clear how much it impacts Asa in those moments. Also, thank you for the great discussion around how much pressure is put on young people so early on! 🫶 There’s a lot going on around that long-term pressure to go into full-time higher education in the UK at the moment (due to many factors). But one positive I’m seeing is a growing push from the government to develop and fund apprenticeships beyond just the more societally-stereotypical idea that only ””blue collar”” industries can have young people getting placements to learn and earn at the same time. Looking forward to the next episode! 💙

Thank you so much for the kind words! This series is just PACKED with so much to discuss! I love Makio’s friend group; they’re so supportive, quirky, and sweet! I also like that the show keeps some things consistent in terms of fashion, but shows how fashion and hair has developed for each of them over time. I can’t say I would have had a crush on any of Makio’s friends, but I would LOVE a friend like Daigo to tell me like it is. XD Makio’s reaction to Asa’s lyrics is so adorable and hilarious! JUNO IS AMAZING! <3 I love themmmm! The way this episode “spirals” around Asa is so perfect and effective! I LOVE the way Kasamichi handles Asa’s “outburst.” Yesss, a redirect without addressing the nastiness – seriously, I don’t know if I could have done what Kasamichi did here – he’s SERIOUSLY too perfect. There are so many moments in this episode where we see how Asa’s isolation is being displayed and it’s so perfect - THIS SERIES, I swear! Also, thank you! And thank you for the kind words – yeah, I really see the pressure on students in college and it makes me sad and want to help! I love the UK is doing that with apprenticeships – I won’t even talk about the U.S. Education system, or I’ll need a therapy session! XD But thank you for the comment and yes, looking forward to whatever we get next!
