Well! That was an adventure! 😆 I can tell you that baking is always a work in progress! Pie crust is something I have yet to do because you do have to keep the butter cold and break it up in the flour. Looking for a pebble texture. I think my mom used to add ice to the flour and butter for the water part. Or ice chips…. Honestly pie crust scares me and that is why I need to do one. I’m thinking of attempting a quiche. Now, I have done biscuits and sausage gravy. I’m southernish after all. It’s kinda the same process. What I do though is freeze the butter and grate it in the food processor. Soooo much easier! Then I add flour and water till it just comes together. Don’t overwork it!😬 I make sure it’s chilled again and roll it out and fold. If it’s getting warm, I stick it back in fridge. Now if you don’t have a rolling pin, use a glass jar or a can. It’s better than nothing and you may get some interesting patterns on the final product! The thing about biscuits is you can get a bit messy and they are fine. Pie crust has to be thinner and it can break and crumble. My mom used to do fantastic pies! 🥲 Now some of my failures in the kitchen: My coconut and raisin sourdough loaf that we are eating currently! Man, it had so much coconut fat in it that it didn’t rise like I wanted. It is a literal brick! It’s dense and heavy and is a weapon if you throw it at someone’s head. However, if you toast it, it is divine! It’s not sweet, smells like coconut and every once in a while you bite into a raisin. Soooooooo good! Makes great toasted PB and J sandwiches! Sometimes even failures can work! Glad your effort is tasty! Now the jam looks wonderful! Fruit skins usually have a pectin in them that makes it more jelly like. So if you over cook it, it will eventually break down the pectin and become watery. I’ve been responsible for cranberry sauce for a few years now so I ‘ve learned. Update on the update with the Lunchmeat: omg, we have been eating it mixed with rice and scrambled eggs with sea weed sprinkled on top! It’s sooooooo good! Basically like a deconstructed Musubi that’s thrown in a bowl. We worked it out. So a can of spam is like 4-5 buck…. The pork shoulder was like 10 and the quality we made worked out to approx 60 cents a can! We be eating good for a while! Nice thing is we control the spice and salt so it’s to our taste. Enjoyed this chapter and the culinary hijinks! Can’t wait for more! Remember the best way to improve cooking skills is to just get in there and do it.

An attempt was made, that’s what counts! Besides, I figure it probably takes a lot of practice to make baked goods look really artisanal like Qifrey did (so just imagine how much he practiced to be able to make stuff like that for Olly and/or the girls ☺️) Olly’s line about sparkling at the end made me remember the English dub line Tartah had about how he couldn’t stand to ask Qifrey about the flash of light with him ‘sparkling away like that’ XP

Thank you – at least I tried, right? And yeah, QiFrey and his magic! 😛But yeah, you KNOW he practiced a lot for the girls and Olly! 😀And ahhhh, that’s such a good connection with Tartah to Olly – nice! QIFrey definitely SPARKLES with his personality! :3 Thank you for the comment and kind words!

Hahaha, what an adventure, indeed! PEBBLES…well, my butter was more “stones,” so that could have been it as well – honestly, I’d never realized about ice chips, but in hindsight, putting it over a bowl of ice probably would have been the better route to go than sticking in the fridge. I feel like such a “southern fraud” because I don’t like white gravy. *avoids thrown tomatoes* And grated butter – grated, pebbles, these are all great ideas! And I’m also sure I overworked it haha!! The Great British Baking helicopter blades were spinning! OH, my mother, when I was telling her I didn’t have a rolling pin was like, “Did you have a can of green beans.” I face palmed SO HARD. I have heard working with coconut can be challenging! I have coconut flour I bought as an impulse buy and I haven’t really used it! Honestly, dough bricks as self-defense items do sound practical. 😀Sweet and like coconut, though, sounds fun! And yes, I’m an advocate of “still using despite the failure” haha! Now, the jam DID work out fine – but I will say, when I put it in the fridge, that fruit skin did lend it to have a jelly-like texture! So that makes total sense. The lunchmeat update is so great – I loooove that idea of mixing with rice and scrambled eggs! I like seaweed “sheets” as a snack so that’s interesting! That is so cool – I’m glad it worked out! Thank you for the comment and kind words! I am excited to get into the next recipe and see where we go next – yes, practice makes progress! 😀

Super late comment but I just wanted to say that I admire you for actually giving a try to that recipe. If it had been me I would just have skipped it xD Also, Qifrey making a pretty "floral" arrangement that Olruggio will approve of is such wiped husband behavior. They're not beating the allegations. Olruggio being the softest boy is so cute to see. The fact that he didn't want flowers to not disrespect the flowers (or something along those lines, I can't quite remember any more) is adorable and I love that the girls were supprised about it.

You're never too late for a comment! And yeah, this series has me getting a little outside my comfort zone -- I'm challenging myself to not skip a recipe, so we'll see how that goes down the road! *nervous laugh* And seriously, Qifrey making the floral apples for Olruggio? Stop. They ARE married. I just adore how lovable and sweet Olly is -- he looks so rugged but is the most delicate spirit -- ugh, this manga is definitely helping to fill the need for more Olruggio and Qifrey in my life. Thank you for the comment!
