I want to ask about something I've been thinking about for a while... Personal questlines for our companions.

Something similar to what is in Baldur's Gate 3, where each companion has their own story, personal problems and character development that we can explore throughout the adventure.

I know ours is a very different game, and I wouldn't be able to make something as massive as BG3, but I do like the idea of giving our companions their own smaller stories.

These quests wouldn't necessarily affect the main storyline, but they could help us learn more about the characters, their pasts, their relationships, and maybe even give them some interesting development outside of the main quest.

Poll question:

Would you like companions to have their own personal questlines?

I think this could be a nice way to give more personality to our party, especially now that we're starting to introduce more characters and explore their individual stories.

Happy Friday! Hope you have a good weekend! πŸ’œ

I feel like that would give you a chance to fill in their backstory and give players time to connect with them.

It doesn't need to be crazy or anything, but it would be nice for newer members to have their own buy-in to the party. It helps us get a slightly deeper read on what makes a character tick, so to speak. I always enjoyed loyalty missions from Mass Effect, for example. I think you would have to set the start for these at the house bubble interaction and the only risk is either time gating them or making sure the player always has access to the areas you would need to go. I don't mind if it is 1 big dialogue heavy quest or 3+ smaller ones, just so long as we get the conflict>tension>resolution resulting in more earned trust. I think that's fair, as it doesn't mean you can't add another arc to the part member's questline later down the road for something even deeper.

I think simple side quests tied to the main story is fine, because putting in longer quest lines could derail the main plot depending on the results. In BG3 if you mess up, you can lose a party member for the rest of the game. While it gives a lot of freedom and consequences, it can affect the rest of the game and mess with the main story.
