🎨 WATERCOLOR SUPPLIES:
PAPER: Arches Cold Pressed 140lbs 100% cotton paper, 12 x 12 inches.
BRUSHES: I am using Escoda Chronos synthetic rounds in sizes #0-4.
PENCIL: 2H or 4H
GLOVES: https://amzn.to/3GFcojf
🎨 WATERCOLOR PIGMENTS:
WARM RED: Scarlet Lake W&N. Alternatives: any medium to warm orange-y red of your choice, including: Quinacridone Coral from Daniel Smith.
DARK / COOL RED: Winsor Red Deep W&N. Alternatives: any cool / deep / dark red. For example PErm. Alizarin Crimson or Bordeaux from Daniel Smith.
BROWN: I am using Burnt Sienna W&N. Burnt Sienna from any brand will work.
LIGHT BLUE: I am using Phthalo Blue Red Shade from QOR. Alternatives: any transparent non-granulating blue of your choice. Phthalo Blue Green or Red shade from any brand.
DARK BLUE / BLACK: I am using Indigo from Daniel Smith as it "reads" more natural to me. But you can apply black straight from the tube
PURPLE {optional}: I am using Dioxazine Purple from QOR. You can go with any non-granulating purple or warm blue.
🎨 OPTIONAL WATERCOLOR PIGMENTS {Extended Palette}:
YELLOW: I used Cadmium Yellow Medium Hue. Alternative: Hansa Yellow Light or Medium from any brand, or any warm yellow of your choice.
RED: I used Permenent Alizarin crimson to create darker veins on the pink petals. You may want to try something less transparent, like Winsor Red Deep {PR264}.
PINK #2: I supplemented Quinacridone Magenta with some fluorescent Opera Rose {aka Opera Pink} from Winsor & Newton {PR122}. Although it is generally known to be a fugitive color, the W&N version is quite stable in my experience, especially when mixed with more lightfast pigments in background washes. I often use it in combination with regular PR122 Quinacridone Magenta to add vivid backgrounds.
BLACK / DARK BLUE: I used Indigo from Daniel Smith {PB 60, PBk 6} in the final layer on the branches. If you prefer a warmer, more natural look, use any warm transparent or semi-transparent brown of your choice.
GREEN: I used Sap Green from Daniel Smith {PO 48, PY 150, PG 7} to accentuate some of the yellow segments on the flower. You can use any warm green of your choice, for example Olive Green or Hookers Green.
