This is the ad-free version of my recent YouTube video, where I show how to draw and paint a magnolia flower using white gouache and Jelly Roll pens. The full real-time recording of this tutorial is also available here on Patreon, along with step-by-step photos (Tier 2 and 3) "Magnolia: Watercolor on Cold Pressed Paper": https://www.patreon.com/posts/130710707/

In addition to this lesson, I’ll be releasing two more magnolia tutorials this month—one on cold pressed watercolor paper and another on hot pressed paper. All three were painted in my limited edition Etchr Sketchbook, which features three types of paper and was offered back in April 2025. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated in this special project! You’ll be receiving a separate link to these exclusive tutorials along with your sketchbook this month.

I have been looking for a true white magnolia tutorial for a long time. I've only seen artists post white with pink magnolias. Magnolias have been blooming all over the Houston, TX area. We only have all white in this part of the Country and they are beautiful but they seem difficult to paint. I will be purchasing black paper to give this one a try and look forward to seeing the tutorials you have coming up.

Amy P

Amazing. I can see why you like this look so much.

Lindsay

I’ve been doing a lot of monochromatic paintings lately in offer to practice creating value, a skill I deeply struggle with in watercolor, yet can do pretty easily in pencil. This seems like it will be a really fun way to practice that!

Anna Bucciarelli

Thank you, Lindsay! This one is a quick and fun little project with just a single color gradient—you can try it in any color and on any toned surface. I hope you enjoy it!

Kari

My book arrived and I love it! So elegant I almost don’t want to paint in it.

Ingrid

It was a nice surprise to find my book in the mail box. I did not think I wanted to paint on it since it is so pretty…until I saw your new tutorials.

Martine Leblanc

Anna ! I am so happy ! I received your sketchbook, I was waiting since long time ! I am a watercolor teacher and I like to practice with you. It upper my skills…

Anna Bucciarelli

Thank you Ingrid! Enjoy every page - I hope it sparks so much joy and inspiration!

Anna Bucciarelli

Kari, Thank you so much for your lovely message! I’m so happy to hear your sketchbook arrived safely—and I completely understand that feeling. There’s something about a fresh sketchbook that feels almost too precious to touch at first! I am in a habit of ALWAYS skipping the first page for that reason hehe But I hope you do dive in soon—it was made to be filled with your beautiful ideas and experiments. Thank you again for your support—it means a lot!

Anna Bucciarelli

Martine, I am thrilled that the sketchbook finally made it into your hands! I know it took some time, so thank you so much for your patience. It means a lot to know that as a fellow watercolor teacher, you enjoy practicing with me. That’s such a huge compliment, and I’m honored to be part of your creative journey in any way. I hope the different papers inside inspire lots of joyful exploration and new discoveries. Wishing you many beautiful painting sessions ahead!

Kari

I have sketched the magnolia on the same page choices you used in the tutorial. Now to paint. I just enrolled in New Masters Art Academy, but I’m going to make time to play.

Anna Bucciarelli

How exciting! It looks like they have some amazing teachers from different fields. Is this all on demand videos? Let me know how you like it. I might explore it later in the year for my oil experiments:)

Kari

There are on demand classes and live classes, plus a Discord server. Everyone has to start with the fundamentals, then move on to other fields. I signed up for the Traditional Illustration course. I plan to pursue oil as well. Somewhere in all this I need to take a few days for Koo Schadler’s egg tempera workshop on the acorn app. Next April we will be in Alaska for a week or two. Getting plans finalized. I can wait to see the flora and fauna. I’ll gladly share the photos.

Kari

I just looked to check, you might be able to just take the classes you want if you’re not pursuing a certification program.

Kari

Anna they seem to be having issues with receiving my assignments.

Anna Bucciarelli

Hi Kari! Do you mean the links to the classes? I can DM you if you need the links

Kari

Yes please
