Thank you for posting such a great live today! I love how authentic you are in all of your videos and part of that is your cultural roots that are often reflected in your work! Your accent is beautiful, please don’t apologize for it 🇨🇦🇺🇦❤️

Debbie Bridges-Duffy

I have learned so much about layering using your various techniques. I would like to see some landscapes, and not just birds and flowers. I'm still learning from your subjects, but I would like to know how to paint more landscapes.

Wendy Champness

If you do a Kingfisher, a Belted Kingfisher would be best, I think. They are found in North America and I’ve never seen a tutorial of it.

Judy Logue

Thank you for your great tutorials on Patreon. You did a great job on your chat. It was so interesting. We love who you are and enjoy our chats. Never worry about your accent coming out. It’s beautiful, be proud😃❤️

Hi Anna, hun. You did such an amazing job on the live yesterday. You don’t see it, but us folk were just so happy to spend a little time finding out your thinking behind projects you have as well as having a moment of connection to someone we admire. I wish you could take that knowledge and see and believe how great you are at connecting with your fans, your students. I had a question: in your new brushes with Escoda, which are on their way from Spain to me as we speak, the brush sizes are all much bigger than the ones I see you use in your lessons. Why is that? Sending best wishes for spring from the Scottish Highlands. I’m Canadian by birth, oddly enough, from Toronto. X

Anna Bucciarelli

Of course! Her name is Katerina Kolberg known as @akvarell_design on Instagram:) Alot of artists do "transparent" flowers but she is the best (in my humble opinion).

Linda

I enjoyed your live chat so much!! Not only was it informative but it also gave me the opportunity to get to know you in a more personal way. I always enjoy your tutorials where you are so natural and real. I'm going to be watching for the new brushes and looking forward to ordering. I do have your book, which is such a great resource!!

Kimberly Gipson

you are a joy to watch! I have a question- do you have a sketchbook that you use for trying ideas, and practice? I know you use etchr, and have a beautiful version of that made just for you, but do you have a

Anna Bucciarelli

Hi Kimberly - great question! In general, I try to keep paper quality as close to the final as possible, my main concern is always thickness - but its only because of all the layering I prefer to do even in practice sessions. Prefer to use three things to practice: 1) A small block of Fabriano Artistico cold pressed (cheaper than my regular Arches, good enough for swatches and practice 2) the back of the paper in my other larger Etchr sketchbook - its a larger horizontal one called the Perfect Sketchbook, I bought it long before this collaboration because its the only one I could find at the time with 300gsm paper. I am sloooowly making my way through it, I even painted some of our smaller tutorials in it including the squirrel (reverse side is not perfect and kind of patchy but good for practice and i do a lot of swatches and mini compositions there where i just "let go" and layer as much as i want, and 3) front AND back of some misc papers I buy to test (and of course the back of larger Arches sheets that I ruined when things didn't go as planned :) I peel them off and paint on the back. If you do less layering in your practice sessions, then i would recommend Moleskine or even Escoda sketchbooks, they are thinner than Etchr (i think 230 gsm) but perfectly fine for line and wash and up to 2 layers without bucking.

Nicki

Thank you for the live chat, I wish I could have joined real time but I still really liked listening to the recording! Looking forward to more tutorials. Ravens would be beautiful birds to paint! Maybe around Halloween time! :) I love doing your tutorials. Thanks so much for putting yourself out there!

Sammie Bryant

I went yo the site and I didn’t find the chat. Do we know who won?

Barbara

I don’t know how to find out who won

Anna Bucciarelli

Hi Barbara - it was comment #9 on Patreon and #43 on youtube:) Thank you for joining the session! We'll do a new giveaway at our next one:)

Anna Bucciarelli

Thank you Nicky! ooohh a raven for Halloween is a brilliant idea - thank you!

Anna Bucciarelli

Thank you so much for your incredibly kind words and support! That truly means a lot to me:) And I’m happy to hear the brushes are already on their way to you! That’s an excellent question re: sizes - I should have mentioned that during live.... We actually went back and forth on this quite a bit with Escoda when deciding on the sizes for the set. The flat and the rigger are the sizes I personally use, but the Perla round is slightly larger than my usual go-to. I would say it behaves more like a typical size 5 or 6 round, depending on the brand of course, since brush sizing varies so much. So yes, it is still a little larger than the size 4 I often reach for in my tutorials. That said, I also recognize that always relying on smaller brushes is a bit of a personal quirk of mine. I tend to paint quite small subjects and I often prefer extra control, even if that means sacrificing a bit of pigment load and softness. That’s very much just my own habit. Escoda, of course, knows their customers and the broader brush market extremely well, and I think going quite that small for the main round brush simply didn’t feel right for a widely useful set. The Perla in size 8, even though it behaves more like a size 6, is still small enough for delicate petals and tiny details, but large enough to handle bigger work beautifully as well. The same goes for the Size 2 Chronos - it is actually very close in size to my size 0 Isabey, so although the number sounds bigger, in practice it feels very familiar in the hand. I hope that helps explain the thinking behind it a little better. And sending warm spring wishes right back to the Scottish Highlands - and how lovely that you’re originally from Toronto too. xx

Anna Bucciarelli

Thank you Wendy! Its a gorgeous bird for sure (we'll need some Cobalt teal for those feather highlights:) I've added it to the list!

Anna Bucciarelli

Thank you for your feedback Debbie! I am not a landscape "expert " but would recommend exploring other watercolor artists on this platform - lots of fantastic talented teachers that specialize in landscapes specifically:)

Aloha from Hawaii, Anna! I am a new patron and ❤️ your content. I just completed your 9 leaves tutorial and am so proud of how it turned out. I am also working my way through your book! I have been checking almost daily on Amazon in the US for your new brush set. LOL Will you be able to give us a heads-up when it becomes available? It sold out so quickly on the other sites!
