This is the ad-free version of my latest video, where I walk you through some of the most fascinating watercolor purples and violets - with clear swatches, real examples of how I use them in botanical, animal, and portrait work, plus plenty of mixing demonstrations.

๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ”ฎ Purples and violets might just be the most quietly powerful colours on your palette - and once you see what they're really capable of, I think you'll never look at them the same way again. In my latest video, I take you through this whole gorgeous family: silky, glazeable purples perfect for deep florals and shadows, granulating Cobalts full of personality, and even a few shimmering, otherworldly Iridescent and Duochrome pigments.

As a bonus, I've also prepared a downloadable handout with all the swatches and suggested mixes, so you can keep it nearby as a handy reference while you paint ๐Ÿ‘‰ download the PDF file in this post: https://www.patreon.com/AnnaBucciarelli/posts/essential-swatch-162185004

๐ŸŽจ You can also explore the other in-depth reviews in this series - including Reds, Yellows, Greens, and Blues โ€” in my "Favorite Art Supplies" collection here: https://www.patreon.com/collection/99366

๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ธ And if you missed it - my Spain painting retreat is now open for registration! It's selling out fast, so check it out here if an in-person week of painting together sounds like your kind of dream: https://www.patreon.com/AnnaBucciarelli/posts/youre-invited-me-161812680

My favorite deep dive so farโ€ฆ.but I am biased as purples are my very fave color group by far. I would love tutorials of some of the examples used (like this stunning iris!) or even just a photo we can download and try our hands at. Thanks again, Annaโ€ฆ.you are THE BEST!

โ€œWent to guash summer school and never came backโ€ is so funny. I love the shade and the shade. Fantastic

Great video! I appreciate that you donโ€™t just swatch the color itself, but also a special combination with another color or two. This really helps getting to know the color.

im in love with tundra violet. Has anyone tried to make it, mixing two pigments at home? Most of us have ultramarine blue. I donโ€™t have Mars brown, but Iโ€™m sure I have a few brown oxide earth pigments.

Anna Bucciarelli

Yes of course ๐Ÿ’œ Follow the link to the handout - the full list is there!

Thank you Guadalupe!!! Yes, of course! My goal with these reviews is to help others imagine different uses, including mixing and the types of subjects you can use the pigment on. Admittedly this is why it takes me a while to put these reviews together but I hope its worth the wait:)

Thank you Alex! ๐Ÿ’œ *A little bit of shade indeed I couldn't help it;) But of course, I love gouache, its just that this particular pigment is acting suspiciously like gouache :)))

Wow Anna, these are gorgeous colors! Now I see why my petunia in my shell painting was so different! The Dioxidine purple by Qor is always sold out LOL

I find these essential colour tutorials so useful. It amazes me the mixes that you come up with. Thank you so much for the work you put into these.

Thank you Mark! I am working on the final chapter - browns, blacks and neutrals - Its amazing how many earth colors we have to enjoy! Will post soon - have a wonderful weekend.
