Hi All! ☀️ I just put the finishing touches on our June composition - Cockatoo and Stargazer Lilies. In this tutorial we will practice something very cool - "delayed" or "controlled" wet-in-wet technique, that - with some timing tricks - will give you different and very interesting blending effects.

Excited to finally share this painting, along with the outline and pigment list:) You can get started on the drawing while I am editing Part #1 video for you for this weekend. As you will see in the upcoming video, I ended up doing 3 different versions of this painting, in order to perfect the palette and also to try a dark background. The final painting video is about ~5 hours so I will be releasing 4 videos total over the next 3 weeks. Enjoy!

PS: please note that I will be going through messages this weekend, so if I've missed any over the past week - my apologies! It's been an incredibly busy time with work this month and I appreciate your patience.

🎨 WATERCOLOR SUPPLIES:

PAPER: Arches Cold Pressed 140lbs 100% cotton paper, 12 x 12 inches.

BRUSHES: 3 synthetics Chronos from Escoda in sizes 0, 3, and 6

MAIN PALETTE + MIXES

MEDIUM YELLOW: Cadmium Yellow DS. Alternatives: Benzo Yellow QOR, or any medium to warm transparent yellow will work. Avoid cooler yellows such as Lemon Yellow.

COOL/MEDIUM RED: Quinacridone Red QOR. Alternatives: Any medium or cool transparent red. For example: Carmine DS, Quinacridone Magenta, Quinacridone Fuchsia DS, Quinacridone Rose DS.

WARM DARK RED: Permanent Alizarin Crimson. Alternative: Bordeaux DS, Quinacridone Violet QOR (other brands are too vibrant, but QOR is quite dark and brown-ish, so it will work].

BROWN/VIOLET: Perylene Violet DS. Alternatives: Perylene Maroon DS, Quinacridone Violet from QOR {W&N version is too pink).

WARM BLUE: Phthalo Blue RED Shade W&N. Alternative: Phthalo Blue Green Shade.

WARM GREEN: Hookers Green DS. Alternative: any medium to warm green, you can mix your own shade, using warm yellow and blue from above {go heavier on yellow}!

COOL GREEN: Aqua Green DS. Alternative: Pthalo Turquoise QOR, or any cool blue-ish green, you can mix your own shade, using warm yellow and blue from above {go heavier on yellow}!

OPTIONAL PIGMENTS / EXTENDED PALETTE:

PURPLE: Dioxazine Purple QOR. It's optional, but would be very convenient to have. Alternative: your main cool/medium Red or Magenta + your warm Blue from above.

YELLOW GREEN: Green Gold Daniel Smith. Alternatives: just mix yellow and green from above.

WARM LIGHT RED: Quinacridone Coral DS. Alternatives: re-use your medium red from above.

ORANGE: Transparent Pyrrole Orange DS. Alternatives: any orange of your choice, or mix your yellow  and red from above.

WARM YELLOW: Hansa Yellow Deep. Any warm, even orange-y yellow will work.

DARK BROWN: Burned Umber. Alternatives: any dark brown / purple.

BLACK / DARK BLUE: Indigo. Alternatives: Payne's Gray or pure black. Truly optional.

Oh my gosh Anna!! This is stunning! I was all set to paint your parrot with all the peonies but then I saw this. Stargazers are my absolute favorite flowers of all time and I have been searching for a tutorial on them. And I love the morocan cockatoos which is what this one looks like. It will take me forever to paint. I just hope I can do it justice. Thank you for such a beautiful tutorial. 🥰

Ankia

So excited! Love the colours!

Pat Mitchell

Brooke Vogelgesang

ANNA, how do I downsize the image to fit on one page on my printer? Is there anyway to do that on my iPad?

Bell and Kuma

Love being your student and a big fan of your art. I guess the blue and purple corner from another Insta post must have been another version of the same subject. This one is so beautiful!!!

Velda Draper

Anna Bucciarelli

Thank you Anne-Marie! The outline is the 2nd photo in this post 😊 I will also repost tomorrow as an attachment when I post the tutorial

Brooke Vogelgesang

Have you released any of the videos yet or am I lost and can’t find it? Please let me know . I can’t wait to get started.

Kelly Honeycutt

What do you think of the new brushes? This is stunning.

Jojo

Hi Brooke! Try using power point! Set the slide size for letter size (which is printer standard) in a Design tab and paste your outline there and adjust to fit the page :) hope it helps :)

Jojo

I just saw finished version with background. Omg it’s awesome!

Brooke Vogelgesang

Jojo, where did you see it? Are you talking about the stargazer lilies?

Jojo

On Anna’s latest instagram reel!

Anna Bucciarelli

Hi Debra, video is processing (it’s long) and will go live tonight (part 1). Thank you!

Anna Bucciarelli

Hi Brook! The first hour tutorial is ready but still says “processing” when I look on my dashboard. As soon as it’s done uploading/processing it’s going to show up in your feed - I am guessing tonight. Thank you!
