Half in the Bag: Moonfall

In this latest episode of the post mortem movie show, Jay and Mike take a look at one of the biggest bombs in movie history: MOONFALL! From the director of a bunch of other movies that somehow were popular and successful despite being equally terrible to MOONFALL! Thanks, Roland Emmerich! Your works of art will live on for generations of idiots to come.

The best movie I ever saw that day! I saw no other movie that day.

Peter Varga

yay! while you're at it, how about the new Michael Bay movie "Ambulance"?

Manuel Johnen

I am amazed "Moonfall" even exists... it somehow doesn't seem like a real movie, more like an intentionally ridiculous movie that people in a "real" movie watch... you know, like "Scorcher VI: Global Meltdown" in "Tropic Thunder"... or "Floaters" in an episode of "King of Queens"... :P

Adam C.

In the last act, the AI was the best part because it was so out from left field. The rest of the movie is complete dogshit. This movie is absolutely 'science optional'.

If the moon contains a white dwarf, the Earth would orbit the moon (and the moon would orbit the sun). Or the Earth would be torn apart by its gravity. The white dwarfs mass would still be immense, using Mike's analogy it would be like something the size of the head of a pin weighing nearly as much as a city bus.

Rob Risley

Best of the Worst between Moonfall, Mooncrash, and Moonshot?

Gareth McMahon

LOL , utter garbage. Neil Breen would he happy.

Bill Wilson

I think the crypto market is in dire need of some Plinkoin. How else am I supposed to buy my "Mr Plinkett with pizza roll" or "unimpressed Rich Evans" NFT. Give it a few years and movies like Moonfall will have aged like fine wine. They should be ripe enough by then for a Best of the Worst.

Kiskissian

I don't think an EMP would even stop that bus. Probably cause some electrical failure and the headlights would go nuts, but the bus would keep running.

Katy

That was a lot of Star Trek in a non-Star Trek review. I liked it!

Michael Parker

I knew you two wouldn't disappoint with some signature snarky, flippant addressing of a recent big pop culture event. I wonder if Jack Packard was offended on Jada Pinkett Smith's behalf as a fellow bald person?

Brian Charles McKinley

This movie is fucking awesome. “Realistic scenarios??” “Reality” fuck hell guys, it’s not supposed to be realistic. It’s an awesome story that delves into the conspiratorial realm of humanities origins in a really fun way. This is fun, not realistic, not to be taken seriously, it’s just fun and if you can’t have fun in a movie anymore, sheesh boys, just pack it the hell up.

Jay's "It's not funny" made me laugh. The dialogue between the mother and the child was so terrible, it physically hurt, but the fart sound farted the pain away, so to speak. I share Mike's assessment of China's strategy of turning a foreign catastrophe into their own profit. And, last but not least, you guys did it again: making something entertaining and informative from a movie I will never watch voluntarily. Thanks.

While I wasn’t comfortable dogpiling Bruce Willis and his enablers (there’s something wrong with Willis and I basically got no prob w him working a corrupt system for his own benefit if he’s sick or not) but I’m totally here for dogpiling Roland Emmerich and his enablers bc his films are the cinematic equivalent of an ATM transaction

Gen

John McAfee could have salvaged this.

Benway23

Thank you for your work.

Rhea

Mike you should've worn your scientist man outfit for this one.

DonMac

This movie was so bad that I was wishing Bruce Willis was in it.

Juan Calvo

The video ended right before Mike paying thousands in gas fees.

andrew

Wouldn’t a White Dwarf’s gravity pull in the Earth? Or did they have a throwaway line about that? Thanks for the still taking the time to do handwritten notes.

Will Sullivan

Why are you green screened? Jay is obviously green screened, and I think Mike might be as well. Is that because the set wasn't available, or because of irony with the movie?

Mike St Louis

Love me some HITB. I hope the lads will get out to more movies.

Charlie

Oh my. A ‘Burbs re:View would be fantastic.

You guys should read 'Moonfall', a hard sci-fi disaster novel by Jack MacDevitt (or at least be aware of its synopsis). Its about how a natural interstellar object (like Oumuamua) is spotted in a direct collision course with the Moon. The novel covers the efforts of humanity to rescue their colonies on the Moon, as well as the shattering of the Moon once is impacted, and its catastrophic consequences on Earth. When I first heard that a movie called Moonfall was coming out I initially got exited because I thiught it was an adaptation of McDevitt's novel... But then I saw the trailer.

You guys are absolutely right. Nostalgia bait is these studios last hope. If Spider-Man didn’t have any of those characters from previous movies it wouldn’t of made anywhere near what it did. Now Doctor Strange is bringing in the X Men or at least Prof. X. It just seems pathetic at this point

DonMac

Halle Berry shows she's still no better at picking good roles since "Catwoman"

Manuel Johnen

Also, that redneck from "Moonfall" doesn't look like the neighbor from "The 'Burbs". Jay does look like the neighbor from "The 'Burbs"...!

Stranger2Reality

I thought Moonfall was the most bonkers insane movie I'd see all year, but then I saw the new Michael Bay movie Ambulance. You guys should definitely check it out because it's even more insane than Moonfall was. It's absolutely awful, and not in a good way, but my jaw was on the floor with just how spectacularly bizzare that movie is.

Jessie Zimmer

Mike's sigh at 14:41 encapsulates what I feel about a lot of movies right now. Bless you for your labor, Mike.

Amrith

Call me a fan of cheese. I loved this movie. It was the perfect movie to run by the side while I was working in my 2nd monitor. Man of Steel has finally found a competitor. *And Mike, I know you have seen The Expanse, so review it.*

GrowSweeds

Loved it! The episode that is. Three thumbs up.

Kaspersky is a Russia-based company and its software has been deemed a national security threat and banned from federal government computers for years. At least one state has followed the federal government and banned the software from their computers as well.

reViews and HITB’s have been off-the-charts good.
