Half in the Bag: 2022 Mid-Year Catch-Up Part 2 (Movies)

It's now officially June and the start of Summer! The first half of this year was a pile of crap but Jay and Mike did watch a bunch of movies that they cared so little about they nearly forgot all of them! The magic of the silver screen is back, baby! Mike orders a can of beer from the future! Jay rambles on about the new Robert Egger's Egg. And the posters on the thumbnail DO NOT represent the order in which the movies were talked about. That would have made sense, right? I should have done that from the start. But now that it's made, I'm too lazy to go and fix it because it's a nice day out and I'm going to the beach to swim in my new clown themed unitard. (00:00:00) Intro (00:02:22) All My Friends Hate Me (00:06:59) Windfall (00:12:53) Jackass Forever (00:17:50) Ultrasound (00:23:38) King Knight (00:30:16) Fresh (00:39:58) The Northman (00:58:58) The Northman/Gladiator Comparison (Spoilers) (01:01:27) Outro

I’m in the crowd of Dreamhack Dallas watching Furia and G2 battle it out, but I’m here to say, I’m about to watch this video in the middle of it all

FINALLY THE BATMAN REVIEW IS HERE. Batman review not guaranteed

What a world we live in

I rate everything I watch on IMDB. Then, I look at my account and select "My Ratings". A month can go by and I'll be like "oh yeah, I watched that. I forgot."

JT

No "X" or "Everything Everywhere All At Once"?? Feel like they missed two big ones. Anyways, this is my Friday night regardless

Daniel

What a gift to get this going into the weekend!

Ben Bruflat

The Northman reviews are so great lmao Even if they don't review it, I hope the gang watches Everything Everywhere All at Once.

James Murphy

Fyi Mike tooth decay is linked to the expansion of sugar. They probably had pretty good fairly good teeth.

Bill Wilson

Speaking of pandemic, AIIIIIIDS

Ian

Jay, the actor from Ultrasound and Fight Club was also in Twin Peaks. The guy that drinks the tea in the meeting. And the guy who gives him the tea was in King Knight

The subtitles reminded me of the Monty Python Holy Grail subtitles, and the line "It's all fake news" made me laugh out loud. Thank you, Mike. -- Another thing I realized watching this Half in the Bag is that the Starfleet sticker on the monitor has disappeared (probably because the monitor isn't at its old place anymore). I figure that the TNG VHS was sent from the future to compensate for the imbalance that the missing Starfleet sticker has caused.

I know it’s a rule to be a smartass in RLM comments but I’m going rogue to say thank you guys so much for this.

JAY! In Ultrasound! That's the guy who gets the green tea latte in The Return! JAY!!! He ends up LIKING THE LATTE

Rhea

I'm going to repress my continued sadness and disappointment of there being no Everything Everywhere mention deep deep down into the darkest recesses of my soul and instead say that Mike, I'm proud of you for finally buying a goddamn phone case

Carly

I really recommend EEAAO - think it might be the movie of the decade - even if you don't review it for us ❤️ Hope you're all well.

Eggers needs to heed David Lynch's warning: ALWAYS GET FINAL CUT! (That being said-I still loved The Northman.

So it's become obvious that they're not going to watch and review The Batman. I wonder if they'll watch and review Everything Everywhere All At Once or Top Gun: Maverick, the other two movies that everyone is saying are just the tits. In the case of Top Gun: Maverick that's an example of doing a nostalgic legacy sequel that's very reverent to a silly 80s movie in a way that should be ridiculous but actually totally works. I'd also be curious to see them discuss Alex Garland's "Men." Biggest disappointment of the year so far for me, but one that's still interesting to think/talk about. Glad we got some extended Northman and Fresh talk though.

andrew

Don’t talk about Fight Club! (Sorry, I had to.)

I've had Ultrasound, Fresh, and King Knight on my watchlist for a while now. So..... can someone tell me if these are spoilery reviews, i. e. do I have to watch the movies first?

Marvin Falz

I fell for the subverted expectations moment at first, but I realized mid-pause that the pause is there to let the viewer think of the guy in Twin Peaks, perhaps even let the viewer say the guy's name out loud. Also, Jay said that he looked the guy up on IMDb and there is no way that Jay would have missed that piece of information. So, the edit seems to be deliberate. That's really good editing.

Steven

Kinda disappointed not to hear them talk about Ti West's X. Lots of interesting talking points ie. Mike and his relationship with the elderly, Jay's love of weird sex pervert shit, and the fact Ti West convinced the studio to shoot a prequel as well while making X. Eh. Maybe at the end of year catch-up?

DonMac

I went into "The Northman" completely cold aside from knowing the director, and only figured out that it was the source legend of Shakespeare's Hamlet when the main guy's name "Amleth" sounded a lot like "Hamlet" in some dialogue. The movie's style has an artistic authenticity to it, which really appeals to my tastes, so it's my favorite movie this year so far.

Johan Salberg

Haha, i know the people in the "60 seconds to live" trailer!

Dez

Hi! I enjoyed this review a lot! I was wondering if it would be possible in the future to put a note about strobing lights in the description or in the beginning of the video. I hadn't heard of Ultrasound prior to this review and I didn't know that the title had massive strobe lights. Those kinds of flashing lights trigger seizures for me and for a lot of other people and if there is a note ahead of time we can just skip those scenes. Usually the trailers aren't that bad when it comes to that kind of effect, but Ultrasound was really intense. No worries though if you can't add it. I hope you all have a great start to your summer!

DonMac

I hope the next video is a movie re:View. It's been a while since the last movie one.

andrew

Does the TNG VHS from the future mean that Mike and Rich will do another re:View of ten more episodes? They can do the entire series. I’ll watch.

SR Hadden

Mike promised a WISH UPON Plinkett review yeaaaaaars ago, and never delivered. Where’s it at Guys?

Connor

You guys gotta watch Everything Everywhere All At Once and discuss it!
