I'm a retired forensic pathologist, and in my training we discussed that a family or individual who owns a pistol or revolver is 23 times more likely to have an accidental shooting or suicide. These statistics came from extensive research of gun incidents in major cities. However, and this is important, the paper is over 30 years old. The guns were characteristically not in a gun safe. They were easy to get to typically in drawers, closets, etc. So, the number of accidental shootings or suicides in the home are going to be different. Yet many more people are locking up their guns at home but also many more people are armed with a handgun on their person. Many of the pistols have chambered rounds. So, if little Johnny picks up Mom' Glock, it will fire without racking a round. This comment is just to amplify some of your comments.
