Best of the Worst: New Releases! v2

We have an overwhelming amount of VHS and DVDs in our studio, but instead of sift through those to help get rid of some of our library, we decided to watch three new movies that are only available on streaming! It's Mega Lightning, Shuny Bee's Fight of Fury, and Birdemic 3! Also the two leads in Mega Lightning apparently also star in that terrible looking Winnie the Pooh horror movie that just came out.

My family is from the Santa Cruz area so I spent a lot of my childhood and adulthood on the Wharf and Boardwalk so Birdemic 3 gets high markings from me only cuz I recognize a lot of the landmarks

The clips from Birdemic 3 feel so awkward, like James Nguyen loves Hitchcock as a filmmaker, then frames his shots as if they were ads where actors pretend to be everyday-people that are for the first time ever in front of a camera. And the colors look off, even when you stylize a look the image should still feel right. Thanks for explaining blocking and business. Blocking = where the actors are positioned and where they are moving, if they're moving. Business = the actors doing something specific like reading from a note or putting clothes in a suitcase. Learned something new today. (George Lucas revolutionized business when Padme packed her own bags in Attack of the Clones. I learned that from Mr. Plinkett.)

Was not prepared for how Josh looks in this video and glad to see they were just as baffled buy the description for Mega Lightning as I was. Anyway, while every new episode of BOTW has it's moments, this feels like maybe the most I've laughed from beginning to end in a little while, probably like how they said in the video that they've managed to discover shocking new levels of incompetency. That moment where I think which was trying to get ahead of Mike with a joke at his expense and that ending tho.

I watched some of Birdemic 3 (sorry) and it seems obvious to me that James Nguyen read somewhere that the critically acclaimed Before Trilogy was cheaply made and figured that if he fused it with his stupid Bird movies he'd garner some respect. Also, I fucking HATED IT. Like really, really fucking HATED IT. I wanted to push the main actor off of a cliff.

The film terms of “blocking and business” are really interesting to me! When I was doing design for narrative video games, we’d have a similar kind of thing - after about four or five lines of dialogue you’d want some kind of interaction (a dialogue choice, player control, etc) to keep the player engaged. That way they’re not just having to read or listen to line after line. Nice to hear that a similar method was used elsewhere!

"log" is how humans perceive light. Humans don't see light linearly, more like a logarithmic curve. Human eyes are more attuned to recognize changes in light as opposed to changes in color. That's why camera have to be white-balanced (well, I guess that's the case), and shots need to be balanced first before you can or should grade them creatively. Depending on what cameras have been used and where (inside/outside) and when (different angles of light during the day) and how the scene was set (light or gray or dark colors/shadows) the look of unbalanced shots can wildly differ. I'm by no means an expert in color grading, but I've tried out the Color Page in DaVinci Resolve and Lumetri in Premiere Pro, and I got better results in DaVinci's Color Page. The Color Page features a plethora of different tools to do all sorts of image manipulations, but I also know that "less is more" in the Color Page. When you don't know what you're doing, you end up adding node after node to correct a previously added node. So, maybe, Lumetri is easier to work with because you don't have that many different possibilities to manipulate an image?

I can't personally stand watching them ... but in a vague sort of theoretical way, it makes me really happy that people are still making black tanktop movies ... it's sort of heartwarming and encouraging in a broad general way somehow.
