Star Trek: Picard Season 3, Episodes 2, 3, and 4 - re:View

Mike and Rich watch the next THREE episodes of Star Trek Picard season 3 and complete what is the best Star Trek The Next Generation feature film ever made! What other mysteries, action, adventure, and great character moments are yet to come? Who knows?!? Rich and Mike spend most of this discussion playing with Star Trek toys, making fun of Alex Kurtzman, and just talking Trek in general. Watch these two old nerds embarrass themselves once again for your amusement.

Live from Guantanamo Bay, it's Star Trek Picard re:View!

Tyler Ellis

RLM guys are my make-a-wish dream

Conor

I stand ready for laser blood eyes

Genuinly a giant bummer you need to censor your cursing now. I would pay premium prices if you would release the uncut version on here

Darkgem

Understand why youre filtering swears on youtube, any chance patreon could get an unbleeped copy? <3

When it comes to new Trek, I remember the old adage: Just because we can watch a thing, does not mean we must watch a thing. People can be very frightened of change--especially when it is a show that sucks. But with these two reviews you've restored my faith. And you've restored my son's.

I’m excited to watch this later. For now, I can tell things have gotten worse, but it’s nowhere near season 2 bad. Edit: I was mistaken. I’ve been too jaded to watch any new Trek, but this makes me curious to watch it now. I’m already paying for so many subscriptions though that I don’t know if I can justify another.

I took a sec to look up the writers on this season. All pretty young, several of them worked on a sci-fi channel adaptation of 12 monkeys together at one point. One of them wrote a season of desperate housewives. Who knew that show even has writers. One of them wrote for Enterprise, though, and I think also a TNG comic. So at least one writer has actually seen at least a few episodes of Star Trek. So that's nice.

To those wondering about the censoring of the curse words. They address this in the comments section, "To those asking about the swear censoring. This was just a test. We've been getting age-restricted on YouTube a lot recently. We never really know why or when. Next video will have more precious swearing. Maybe a mix of bleeps and swears. We're process of elimination-ing this fucking shit. We haven't gone soft. We're still swol AF." Our boys aren't getting disney-esque... they're trying to figure out the usual weird ass youtube bs.

Interesting fact: There was a Romulan shuttle depicted in DS9 which looks strikingly similar to the D'deridex class. It's more runabout sized though, so the toy still wouldn't be to scale.

Hats off to you, Mike, on this one -- you guys watched the 4th episode, filmed the Re:View, and you had it edited and out in one day. We'll done, good sir.

The Real Zam

Realease the "Admiral Fuckface" cut!

andrew

I liked the lighting of the Enterprise D in Generations, especially the bridge, Picard’s quarters, and Ten Forward. It’s the only thing that makes me revisit that movie.

The Real Zam

I interpreted the Vadic amputation scene as a reveal that she is an actual Changeling. The ritual itself was a weird Kirtzman-ized method of communication with the rebel Changeling link. I immediately thought of the lines from DS9 where the female changing describes joining / leaving the link. "The drop becomes the ocean" and "The ocean becomes the drop". I thought of the Amputation ritual as a twist on this concept.

andrew

I feel as though you guys recorded hours of discussion and aggressively edited it down to this. Release the RLM cut!

The Real Zam

Did anyone else think that the new changeling effect looks like bacon?

One more interesting note... The nebula alien babies bore a striking resemblance to the aliens from Encounter at Farpoint (TNG's pilot). Even crazier, Farpoint was about one of the aliens rescuing its mate. The nebula babies could actually be the offspring of those aliens. Yep, it's a stretch, but an interesting thought.

James Van Sickle

Arcanis Lager is a reference to the Search for Spock film. When McCoy goes to a bar to charter a ship, the sign is barely visible in the background behind the alien pilot.

Bill Wilson

Great Left Hand ad. Shame about all the Star Trek stuff though.

Incredible Egghead

I hope Shaw doesn’t die a hero’s death this season. I want the Captain Shaw show with Seven as his first officer. And Matalas should run it. And I’m only half joking about this. 😅

Marvin Falz

I'd prefer the nice even TV lighting and occasional dramatic lighting, too. There's the Star Trek: Voyager two-parter "One Year in Hell" where they go from the nice even lighting at the beginning to the dark lighting during the constant attacks from the Kazons(?) and back to nice even lighting. Makes sense from the view of the story. The modern Star Trek lighting and dark color pallettes are - no hyberbole - so ugly they distract me from the story.

I am one of the many who have never seen the show Picard but love listening to them talk about it. Watching Picard would require me to sign up for yet another streaming service, and I'm at my streaming service limit

Rob Risley

One of the greatest sci-fi novels of all time, Hyperion, centers around an alien monster called The Shrike. It impales and tortures its victims on a giant tree of thorns. Pretty sick stuff. I'm not watching this show so I don't know how much it was inspired by that, but it's an interesting connection.

And I always thought Kirk knew the whole time that David was his son in Wrath of Khan. It's one of the more subtle things in the movie and really well done. It's in Kirk's surprise when he realizes he's punched David and then in the "I stayed away like I promised" speech.

Hector Rosales

They mentioned "sorry that were liking this so far." Have not seen the series and won't, but personally I'm happy they're enjoying it. Especially after two dismal seasons.

Garmonbozia

Why don't you post uncensored versions to patreon?

Jack

I’ve been blown away by how much better this season feels compared to the previous 2, it’s like how TNG took 3 seasons to get going. Also glad to see Mike and Rich enjoying it, albeit it at yellow alert

DonMac

What?? Mike and Rich both happy about something new! And it's a nuTrek show too!! What kind of bizarro world is this?!!

Michael Puttré

Dead naming Seven. *sigh* It's still woke.

Michael Devitt

As far as the beer sticker on the wall goes, I was listening to the Always Sunny podcast the other day while working and they mentioned the stickers on the wall of their bar set. Those guys have pretty tight control over everything and they had no ideas what most of the things were or how they got there; they assumed a production assistant was a fan of these bands. They went so far as to ask "Avenged Sevenfold? That's some sort of band? Look them up. Oh, their top song on Spotify has 250 million listens so WE'RE the assholes" All that to say that the Left Hand sticker was probably just some guy

The Real Zam

Left hand beer sticker = foreshadowing of Vadic's left hand amputation ritual.

The Real Zam

Terry Matalas just confirmed on Twitter: "Vadic and her gang are Changelings. She does not have a special hand."

Kyle Swinderman

Apparently, Paramount Plus messed up the lighting of the episodes somehow and they’re now fixed. Matalas mentioned it on Twitter. So it’s not as dark as what I think you guys saw based on the clips you pulled.

Chris

When talking about the low light of nu trek you guys should show that clip from VOY "Demon" where the ship goes gray mode to conserve power. (even their gray mode is brighter than Discovery and Picard)

Maximus Ironthumper

Just wanted to make a note of appreciation for the editing of this video (particularly the subtle touches like the con/Kann when Rich mis-speaks). This is how you make two guys chatting into engaging viewing not just a good listen. Top stuff!

DonMac

Some YouTube reviewers were able to screen the entire season 3 and one of them described the 10 episode season as like a movie trilogy: Episodes 1-4 = movie #1 Episodes 5-8 = movie #2 Episodes 9-10 = movie #3 So now I'm assuming this will be the pattern for the rest of the season.
