Let's talk about classic horror film and it's dated, silly sequels, b*tch! In part 1 of our Freddy retrospective, Mike and Jay discuss the confusing mythology of the franchise as well as go through Nightmare on Elm Street parts 1 through 4.

Amanda Foster

Woo! After I watch the SOS and Hangin with Leo Wheel of the Worsts for the 8 millionth time, I will so watch this! You guys are awesome!

securethong

Went through all of these again last October and it was exactly how I remembered: 1 and 3 are fantastic; 2 is terrible; the rest are OK at best and kind of fun in their own trashy way.

Freddy once said, that he lost his power because people forgot about him, but the real reason was, they couldn't get that godawful tv series out of their minds.

I watch "Freddy's Nightmares" episodes in order any time I fix up one of my computers. I have 8 episodes left. I am not looking forward to when I have to do PC maintenance again. Probably will be soon.

Shane

Ending was fantastic. Nearly spat my beer out.

Peter Varga

what! this was super fast!

Jessie Zimmer

Yes! I was hoping there would be a new video today. I'm so thankful you wonderful weirdos exist.

I was surprised to see Mike in the opposite chair. Mostly because he's spoke about his dislike of gore. However, Mike made a great point about the endings of the NoES films pretty much suck. I never really thought about it before, but he's right. Great stuff here, fellas. Also I was a little surprised to hear part 4 was Mike's favorite. Generally, it's the original or part 3 that are the most beloved.

Honestly surprised you guys didn’t mention how you homaged one of the deaths from Dream Warriors in The Recovered

James Quinn

The Freddy remake has Down syndrome. I like the first one best, because they didn’t know it was going to be such a huge hit while they were making it. Nancy is my favorite ever final girl- hiding a coffee maker in her room 😅 and INTRODUCING Johnny Depp! Wow. Jason movies weren’t as good because they’re all the same and have no imagination. The first one doesn’t even have THE MAN in it, just Kevin Bacon 🥓

The RLM gods have blessed us this day

Paul Turner

You guys forgot DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince also made a "rap" song for Nightmare on Elm Street.

Seano O'Reilly

You guys should make a schlock horror movie with rich evans as the monster/murderer

Carly

In the words of RuPaul, tonight it's just family.

Silentphil9

No mention of Freddy's mother? Disappointed.

Jeff Roper

Best birthday present ever! Thanks!

The ending of the first one works for me. The true conclusion felt sudden and disappointing. I expected and wanted Fred to be destroyed and out of nowhere Heather Langenkamp realizes she is able to de-dream her nightmare, which instantly happens. Then it cuts to outside the house where everything is brightly lit and very rich in colors and it immediately felt dreamlike again. It was no surprise that Fred still lived because the scene felt way too good to be true, kind of surreal. And when the roof of the convertible closed and revealed the green and red stripes of Fred's sweater it felt rather comical. So I understood that the whole movie is a dream, but the tension I felt throughout the movie was real, and the disappointing true conclusion was resolved. But I must admit that the ending doesn't convince me to watch another Nightmare on Elm Street. The real cheesy clips in Re:View though are intriguing.

All I remember about the Freddy movies was that the large cutout at Blockbuster gave me nightmares as a kid so I've never watched them. That and the commercials on late night TV (as shown)

Amanda Foster

Has anyone ever seen The Wedding Singer? Remember one of Robbie Hart’s (Adam Sandler) nephews running around with a Freddy Kruger mask and glove on? I’m pretty sure that was probably Jay in the 80s lol!!

Who the hell is giving you all this footage of Showa-era variety television? First Waratte Iitomo now Kato-chan Ken-chan (not complaining)

andrew

Best part of this video: Mike and Rich are filming next Picard review. Thanks.

Bronnie

So I'm assuming the Most Interesting Thing that was teased at the beginning of this video will show up in Part 2... right? Or did I just miss something...

It is pretty crazy that a hideously burned pedophile was so ubiquitous for so many years...
