Everyone is buried next to Beverly Crusher's Nana! Wonder what all the other headstones say. HOT DAMN!

Also, hot take... I re-watched Sub Rosa (considered the worst TNG episode) and it wasn't that bad. I had a warm TOS feeling while watching it. Many TOS episodes were crafted around sets they had access to. Spooky haunted houses, wild west whatevers, 1930's streets, nazi costumes, gangster costumes, yadda yadda. This episode feels like Paramount had a vintage house and a graveyard and church set from a just shot episode of Murder She Wrote or something. Who knows. That's probably not the case, but I like the idea of it. Someone said, "we have an old timey house, a graveyard, etc... what do we do with that?" ummmmm Beverly Crusher's grandma died on a planet that set up a colony to look like 1800's Scotland for no reason at all and ghost is ghostfucking her to stay alive. Then at the end Data and Geordi exhume Nana's grave and her animated corpse shoots green electricity at Data and Geordi and Beverly kills the ghost by shooting his magic candle with a phaser. Yes! Let's go with it. Fuck it!  Sub Rosa is now in my top 1 episodes of TNG.

Hey look every, Mike likes the worst TNG episode ;)

Tom McGraw

i wonder if Jay wrote this update

Rhea

This feels like a text Rich would get at 3 in the morning

I'm mostly here for Mike's Star Trek hot takes, anyway. I'm nearly finished with my TNG rewatch and I am dreading getting to this episode, but I will try to keep an open mind. Maybe it is better with age...

Rick Drake

"Masks" is actually the worst episode.

Derek F.

Your ideas are intriguing to me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.

Rigmarole

I pointed at the TV "Leo-style" when I saw those tombstones the first time

Katy

A) Murder, She Wrote was filmed at Universal. B) Missed opportunity for a headstone to read James R Kirk.

Lionel Mandrake

Best reappraisal EVER. Also the most important.

Zach Thacker

at least bad old trek episodes are funny and interesting and not melodramatic slop

Rankin Fithian

This is a good take. Beverly DESERVES to star in her own sci-fi, paranormal, bodice ripper period piece romance novel! Girls just wanna have ghost sex, leave her alone! "Worst TNG episode." Please.

Stephen Carvalho

Who TF wrote this, because this has to be Mike's slipping sanity right?

Tony P.

This was definitely written by Jay. He's the TOS and TNG expert.

Amanda Foster

TL;DR cute middle age guy talks about Star Trek or something. Lol

Capulet

Mike, drunkposting on Patreon is still drunkposting

Brian E. Lindstrand

I don't know about the "worst" TNG episode, but it was certainly one of the goofiest.

Ben

Mike’s been drinking…

Starchwreck Models and Props

I kinda agree, especially compared with the Picard has a fake son episode that followed where a 40 year old man plays a 22 year old.

David Perek

Yeah, I think based on the lore of this episode, you'd better watch out for the Curse of the Pharaoh at Luxor in Vegas, it is canonically valid.

Beau

Is Mike drunk?

For fuck's sake, reading that incredibly accurate plot synopsis (seriously, for anyone who hasn't seen the episode in question: Yes, that is indeed an accurate synopsis) just gave me flashbacks worse than an acidhead who did three tours in 'Nam. We know it's you, Mike. Put down the bottle and go to bed! You will be ashamed of this post in the morning, but it's too late. We'll know you made it. Worst of all, you'll know you made it. You have to live with this for the rest of your life.

Also, I've been metaphorically holding my breath about this but...pleeeeaaaase do a Re:View of DS9? Pretty please? Not a "best episodes review" because the show was so much more than that, but a "holy shit every character and relationship became so deep, the plot unfolded over the seasons so brilliantly, we got to see Worf be the warrior we were always told he was, Bashir and O'Brien were so adorable together, Worf and Jadzia were so adorable together, Martok is the coolest motherfucker in the Klingon Empire, AAAHHHHH THERE ARE SO MANY AWESOME THINGS TO TALK ABOUT I DIDN'T EVEN MENTION GARAK OR THE DOMINION OR GUL DUKAT OR DUMAR YET WHAT THE FUCK" Sorry, what was I saying? I blacked out. It happens when I have an orgasm thinking about DS9 (except for the fucking pa wraiths and the fact that a Star Trek show actually completely legitimized a religion at the end of its run) because all of my blood rushes straight out of my brain to my Captain's Log.

sacch

Mike because of you I've started using ...

Dominic O'Neill

Definitely not the worse... hello Violations!

Pib1197

Now this is the type of post I expect on a Thursday night at 10:00pm

Andy

The ramblings of a mad man, this is the content I pay for!

Chauncey Frend

I was a dufus when I last watched TNG all the way through (decade ago) I'm loving it now. Almost done with season 1.

Shane Dobbie

There are a lot of forgettable episodes and this isn’t one of them. Plus, horny Beverly Crusher.

Marvin Falz

TOS wild west set: yeah, that's "Spectre of the Gun," one of the most suspenseful TOS episodes, and then they ruined it with that stupid mind-over-matter solution.

Brendon Parsons

After recently rewatching THG through again, nothing has aged quite so badly as Up The Long Ladder. The ‘space Irish’ are comfortably worse than Sub Rosa or Shades Of Grey, the latter of which at least had a good excuse as to why it was pants.

SKP

Mike. Put the bottle down.

Aliciasheesh

You’re probably not far off. I can’t imagine having to break 26 episodes in a season and shoot one every week. It probably was a “fuck it, let’s do the spooky ghost one” situation. Even the bad episodes have their charm for sure.

Michael

The worst thing you can do in entertainment media is be boring and forgettable. This episode certainly wasn’t that

Glenn Ponka

Now I have to watch that episode!

EnormousTortoise

BTS pics and footage, outtakes, and Mike drunkenly posting about Star Trek are the three reasons I'm never gonna stop being a patron.

Paul Turner

I never did understand why this episode wasn't released around Halloween.

Jessie Zimmer

It took me way too long to understand this ...
