Content

I'm still sort of refining this chapter because it was written in two large sections, one at the beginning of the month and one at the end, so expect a couple of updates to this. It shouldn't be anything major content-wise, just tweaks here and there.

I did need to trim some off the end. I had added another small scene that happened back on the other side of the world, but it just didn't fit here. It will be popping up in the next couple of chapters though.

So…bit of an odd question: most of your experienced, mid-to-high level mages tend to have a specialization or focus to their magical studies and skills, so I have to ask what the lovely counselor has as hers? Given that she may be a minor antagonist for at least a chapter or two, inquisitive minds wish to know…unless of course you plan to provide such info later on as a plot twist…:). If I may hazard a guess, I’d wager she’s a support/material enchantress using that medallion to push spells into physical objects like the spyglass.

I’m sorry, I’ve probably forgotten, but what’s the significance of the gut punch?

In cases like finding out a loved one has passed away, it can turn one's stomach into knots and literally feel like someone punched you in the stomach. In this instance, Kal has a similar reaction to finding out the girl is going through what he did as his mother slowly passed away.

I'm hoping that chapter 26 answered most of the questions for you, but Miyaki is a mid-level mage at best and a bit of a one-trick pony. Her devotion to Kuji's lord makes her valuable, and her divination magic can make her dangerous.
