First off, I want to wish all of my patrons from the US a belated Happy Thanksgiving!

Since this chapter has some references to Thanksgiving toward the end, I wanted to get it out yesterday, but 1) I got busy doing the Thanksgiving thing with the fam, and 2) The part in the story is kind of a bummer, and I didn't want to drag anyone down on what is supposed to be a happy holiday.

Quick note: This chapter is a little short because I took a large chunk off the end and put it at the beginning of the next chapter. Sometimes, the chapter tells the author when it needs to end. This was one of those cases. I kept pushing another three+ pages past it, but in the back of my head, everything I wrote felt out of place in the wake of where the chapter currently ends. I have a feeling you'll agree with me when you read it.

In art news:  I'm still looking for a new artist. The discrepancy between the quality I want and what I can afford is a bit of an issue, but I'm still looking. We should see another page for the comic next month.

We might see a TRC chapter out by the end of the month since it's already partially written. I've done a lot of plotting and planning with TRC over the past month, and I have a roadmap to the end of the series on paper and not just in my head anymore. Perhaps more importantly, plotting out the rest of Kal's adventures has rekindled some of the passion I have for TRC, and the writing I've done on this latest chapter hasn't been the slog it had become. I sincerely hope this trend continues.

Next month, I plan on giving The Witch's Offering a similar treatment as TRC. I might then take another look at the long-forgotten Tower of Prentas sometime in early 2024.

I think that's all have for now. Gifs below potentially related to the chapter. 😁

Enjoy!

The plot is reminiscent of Lit RPG, and I generally don't like Lit RPG (though there are some exceptions like Sufficiently Advanced Magic, Master Class, and Dungeon Crawler Carl). But the story so far has a number of redeeming features. The "mistaken hero" premise has some promise. I like that real amounts of time have passed in order to gain skills. And I like the characters Titus and Alise. So a good start so far.

I have been on a bit of an anime kick lately, and not just "another world" genre either so those who are watching closely will see hints of non-isekais like Goblin Slayer which the description of orc and goblin breeding practices borrow heavily from. If I'm being honest I've never heard of Lit RPG but was once an avid DnD player and my personal library is filled with Tolkien-esque novels, (Wheel of Time, Dragonlance, Dragonriders of Pern, the Drizzt series) but any similarities to the genre will be mostly coincidental.

Perhaps my long experience with really goos DnD games is why I am not a fan of most Lit RPG :) Stereotypically a computer gamer (yes, that type of RPG) gets trapped in the games. And they have some type of meta magic display that keeps track of skills and abilities; which is tracked at specific levels as a computer RPG. It makes some aspects of character growth more explicit. IMHO it is often a crutch that allows the author to avoid having to describe the results of abilities improving - I usually prefer showing over telling.

I briefly considered the status screen trope but quickly discarded it. What does it matter if your power is over 9000 when the next big enemy will always be 1-2K above you. The numbers mean so little by the end it's pointless as any enemy can be divided into easy, medium, and hard anyway. The status screen just felt like another annoyance to track. I also didn't want Titus to be a major gamer or anime nerd as I felt that would take away from him learning about the world he's in, though subverting the assumptions if either of those types of MCs could have been fun. At the same time, I didn't want him to be clueless about gaming (video and tabletop) as the opportunity for him to ride a horse up to the bottom of a mountain and say "A'ight, let's Skyrim this bitch," would be too much fun to pass up. 😁
