Adam smiles. It's a surprise. The expression brightens the wistfulness that mists over his gaze. 

"Cwenhild was quite the horse," he says after a moment of falling into memory. "She looked fine-limbed but she could have easily charged into the frontlines of anything if she felt like it." He arches a brow. "Because it would have been if she wanted, not if I asked. She was not exactly the most co-operative of steeds. But it was her character that made her true and loyal."

His happy wistfulness falls into a hollow melancholy that steals the brightness from his eyes.

He shifts in his seat, sitting taller. But he can't disguise the slight hitch in his voice as he admits, "I miss her."
