The Wayhaven Chronicles—Update+ 04/Sept/2026 (Patreon)

I ended up working Monday bank holiday in the end to get back on top of some social media (I’ve really enjoying seeing your questions for the characters! Can’t wait to get to more of those!), and then dove straight into editing!
It was going super smoothly until I reached a scene that I had written that, apparently, I had no scene leading to it! It was for the love triangle, and I’d written the conclusion of it but not the actual start of it in the love interest moments before it, lol!
So, I fixed that asap, hehe! Wrote a weighty back and forth with some good angsty moments for the love triangle. You know, ‘cause all the angst of the endings wasn’t enough ;D
Then it was just a case of continuing on and really making sure to catch as much as I could. Obviously, the editor will be going over it with a fine-tooth comb as well, but I like to find as much as I can, also make sure I’m smoothing things out.
I thought you guys might like an example!

"Until I give in to your views on it?" I interject.
Nate/Nat blinks, his/her mouth falling open.
Still, I soften, letting out a breath. "We should head into the lab."
(That last line feels too clunky and choppy! So, I changed it to…)
I eventually release a breath. "We should head into the lab."
(Much smoother and spoken on practically one breath. This means the reader mimics what the character is doing too and puts them more in the scene.
It’s also more concise, which is a focus seeing as the price for games is set by Hosted Games not me, and is based on word count, and I really want to keep that as low as I can for everyone!)

So yeah, that’s a real focus on mine during editing. As well as the usual bugs, spelling errors, grammar issues, and apparently scenes that lead to nowhere, lol! :D
I’ll be pushing on with editing today and tomorrow, and into next week before adding in edits for the previous chapter as well as getting the next chunk of testing chapters up together.
I keep forgetting that there won’t be like months’ worth of testing and things on my end once it’s done this time around (Hosted Games do their own testing/editing, which takes time— but the more eyes on it to check it over the better!), what with doing the editing and testing as the book’s been written! That’s always a motivating thing to remember!

For Update+ snippet this week, a bit of longer sneak peek because I could resist! (I think getting closer to the end is softening my resolve on not going too spoilery, hehe ;D)

"Don't say it like that," Farah/Felix pleads, gripping my hands tighter.
"Like what?"
She/He tugs me in closer. "Like it's a foregone conclusion. You don't have to [redacted] in this fight."
"Of course I do," I reply. "Li-Sar won't [major redacted]."
"I…Can't you—ugh!" She/He throws my hands down and steps away, clutching at the back of her/his neck.
A small, sobbed breath escapes her/him as she/he hunches over.
