📽 ✨ Hey TW crew, we need your help picking another Arnold movie! Which one should we watch next?

TeatroGrottesco

Conan for sure, skip the sequel and the Moma one.

Gary Giaimo

This must have been what Sophie felt like when she made her choice.

TeatroGrottesco

The original Conan The Barbarian (1982). The theatrical cut. 129 minutes. The international and blu ray releases only add a minute or two. One of James Earl Jones (Darth Vader) best performances. He crushes every scene he is in. The soundtrack is still one of the best movie scores ever made. There is a great connection between Conan (1982) and the Northman (2022). (Robert Eggers, Director) Will share if that gets selected. I look forward to the time we get to you both react to Robert Eggers films. 🤍🖤 The Witch (2015) The Lighthouse (2019) The Northman (2022) Nosferatu (2024) Really looking forward to Big Trouble In Little China.

Mark M

I went with Commando because it's awesome and all the great one liners☺️

Shawn Goforth

The Running Man will forever be my favorite Schwarzenegger film. I wish more people would see it someday. It doesn't get as much exposure as some of the others, which is why I think there aren't as many reactions to it. So much fun!

FranciscoGios

Commando is more cheesy but entertaining.

Totally Whatever

We really should see all of these at some point. Finish off our Arnold collection.

Shawn Goforth

I'd be pumped (ha!) for almost anything up until 1995-96. After that, the signature style started to feel outmoded, and it began to show that he was past his prime.

FranciscoGios

Well I did voted for Conan to make things interesting lol

REDR58

Conan…it’s going to be something else. Cannot wait!

Joe C

Conan is the best movie of the bunch, but Running Man and Twins aren't far behind. Running Man being my personal favorite.

Totally Whatever

It seems we might have to watch all of these at some point.

Mike the Ginger

Commando is the perfect example of a 100% quintessential 1980s action film.

Mike the Ginger

Yeah, they are all good. I voted for Twins but I think you guys would enjoy any of them.

James Hadden

I remember thinking it was just ok when I first watched it in the 90s, but since revisiting 80s and 90s movies several years ago I have a much greater appreciation for it. It’s such an entertaining movie, and gets my vote despite having watched it a few times in the past couple of years, I haven’t got bored of it yet. I’ve just seen there’s a remake being made starring Glen Powell. Can’t say I’m looking forward to that one, but I guess it can’t be much worse than Twisters and Anyone But You.

Shawn Goforth

Agreed. Anyone But You may be the most mean-spirited rom-com in recent memory: A feel-good movie for when you don't really want to feel good about anyone.

bahstuffandnonsense

Voted for Conan because it's the film that got his career started and a classic fantasy, but Commando is a must, it's sort of the Platonic ideal of an "Arnold" movie, with the most memorable Arnie one-liners and almost constant action.

Totally Whatever

You are selling Commando! What is your favorite one-liner? Thanks for joining, by the way!

REDR58

I enjoy “Conan the Destroyer” for what it is, but skipping it isn’t the worst thing in the world. There are better Arnold movies to watch first.

REDR58

Don’t forget to add “Kindergarten Cop” (1990) to a future poll! It’s a very entertaining Arnold movie!

TeatroGrottesco

That is just my mood on it at the moment. Recently tried to watch it again and could not make it through it. Had high hopes for the Moma one and it was such a massive disappointment. They did bring some interesting call backs to the books, but also removed some crucial setups.

bahstuffandnonsense

Nope, nope, don't want to spoil anything even a little bit! They will be worth the wait.

Om

I read the original Conan novels back in the day so although Arnie isn't my mental image of what Conan would look like, I do appreciate the film keeping true to the feel of a world in which civilisation is still only getting started. Although it came out in the Eighties, it's still got a bit of that weird 70s apocalyptic bleakness feel to it. Or like a Western but fantasy.

Om

I just saw your username. A fellow Ligotti fan by any chance?

TeatroGrottesco

Yes, absolutely. Have been for a very long time. No one writes quite like he does or as effectively. What is your history with Good Thom?

Om

My history is that I had never heard of him and in a book shop found a giant anthology called The Nightmare Factory. I opened it up and read the lines: "We leave this behind in your capable hands, for in the black-foaming gutters and back alleys of paradise, in the dank windowless gloom of some galactic cellar, in the hollow pearly whorls found in sewer-like seas, in starless cities of insanity, and in their slums . . . my awe-struck little deer and I have gone frolicking" I bought the book on the spot, finished it in a week and I even did an audio book reading for someone of that story about the marionette puppet. Alice's Last Adventure remains one of my favourite short horror stories to this day. I recognized your username immediately.

Totally Whatever

We are excited to see it - Western fantasy with 70s apocalyptic bleakness is right up our alley.

TeatroGrottesco

I love Poppy Z. Brites introduction to the Nightmare Factory. Her reaction to The Frolic was legendary. They made a nice short film out The Frolic about a decade ago. I am hoping they react to True Detective Season 1 at some point. It and Session 9 are about the best Ligottian films out there. His X-Files script was also excellent. Considering TD-S1 was plagiarized straight from his philosophy text. 😂 You mentioned audio, Cadabra Records, did a lot of really nice spoken word vinyl from Ligotti.
