Hey Producers! ** Please note: Nanette's camera experienced some issues during our recording, resulting in a super fuzzy picture on her end (about 8 min in). 🤦‍♀️ To make it up to you, we are planning an additional Producer's Choice Pick in July.

When syncing, please note that this is the 1hr. 34min. version. Because of copyright, full-length reactions are watch-alongs, so you'll need your own copy to sync up with us!

Shout out to Homer's real dad Homer Hadley Hickam Sr. He wasn't as mean as portrayed in the movie and actually encouraged Homer, but to tell a good story you need an antagonist.

Lol. We thought we needed to make this one up. At least you can see Carolyn clearly throughout the entire reaction.

I have been following you on YouTube for a while, but seeing that this is coming, I signed up for the full reaction. And because of Lethal Weapon, hoping you will continue the series soon. 😉 I'm really glad you picked to react to this movie. It’s definitely a hidden gem that hasn’t gotten the attention it deserves. I think part of the reason it flew under the radar is because 1999 was such an outstanding year for cinema, and so many great films came out, that several one simply got overshadowed. I have a soft spot for films based on true stories that pull at the heartstrings without crossing into being overly cheesy, and October Sky is one of my favorites in this category. While the story, especially the father-son dynamic is heavily dramatized for the screen, I really appreciate the way it’s being portrayed. The relationship is layered and nuanced, and I love that the father isn’t depicted as an antagonist. On the contrary, he is a good and decent man. Just incredibly stubborn and set in his ways, with a worldview shaped by his hard experience in life. If you do enjoy the space theme, I can highly recommend the HBO miniseries From the Earth to the Moon (1998). Even if it is just off channel. It is just 12 episodes and touching briefly on the Mercury and Gemini programs, and diving deep into the Apollo program, covering everything from initial planning, design, engineering challenges to the final Moon landing. Despite the half-fuzzy picture, I enjoyed this reaction very much.

Ladies this was awesome! The reason you don’t find this Gems or Masterpieces is because the mass are more concentrated on the most popular ones. I have few under my “movie vault” that are in this similar story telling and in the future I will recommend them to your channel. Carolyn I like your NASA shirt, and that chest burster looks very happy to be on your side, and I hope you Nanette fixed that camera 😆

Thank you for sharing such a personal and touching reflection on October Sky. I'm truly sorry for the loss of your father. You are right - it's a great reminder to cherish and express our feelings to loved ones while we still have the chance.

We're definitely continuing the Lethal Weapon series, so stay tuned! We love our Producer Picks — they always introduce us to films we might otherwise miss. We'll certainly look into From the Earth to the Moon, thanks for the suggestion. We're so glad you still enjoyed the reaction, even with the technical issues. We were pretty disappointed when we saw the footage ourselves. Unfortunately, with first-time reactions, if something goes wrong, we can't just re-record it.

Totally Whatever

Thanks, we're so glad you enjoyed it! We'd love to hear your "movie vault" recommendations in the future. Carolyn says thanks for the compliment on her NASA shirt, and the chest burster is indeed a happy little guy. Still working on that camera!

I just knew your reactions would be as emotional as it was for me. Even though I’ve seen this film multiple times it still makes my eyes water. No doubt it will for you both as well. Thank you for sharing

I remember seeing this movie when it first came out and fell in love with it. One of my favorite actors is Chris Cooper. If you ever watch the movie Seabiscuit, Chris Cooper played Tom Smith, Seabiscuit's trainer. I can recommend that movie because it's wonderful, also based on the true story.
