christopher b swanson

Just finished rewatch and such a great movie..............and I think part 2 is better............but I'd skip 3, just a heads up

Phil Stubblefield

"Looks like I picked the wrong week to..." Oops, wrong film. But I'm looking forward to watching this reaction as well! 😁

Ian Forbes

My thoughts exactly. 🙂

Mark M

I know I’ve watched 2 and 3 but I can’t remember them at all.

Totally Whatever

lol! Let us know what you think of this one. Love that you are a fellow Chicagoan.

Mark M

Eddie Murphy is so funny, I'm sure you'll get around to many more of his movies. I think 48 Hours has been suggested a few times and I think you'll enjoy that. I like the new rule about sequels that go beyond the 90's...you can now watch Blade Runner 2049:) Actors we've seen previously: Brad from Fast Times at Ridgemont High Dick Jones from Robocop Burke from Aliens Mike from Breaking Bad(we saw him in Airplane in a very small role) Balki(I mean Bronson Pinchot, don't be ridiculous) from True Romance Nanette, do you have Britbox?

inspectordh

Did you see the new one? It's on Netflix

Hello Nanette and Hello Carolyn., I know it’s been a while. So glad you ladies decided to have a new “continue the whole series” rule; I won’t get in the way this time. That being said I know you both liked the character Serge you know the Cappuccino guy 😂. He is not in the second movie but the sound track is still awesome in part 2 and in the 3rd movie is where Serge is and the funny jokes are back as well. And since we are in the topic I’m so picky with my movies, just when you think I’m gone I’m just waiting for the right reaction from you guys. And remember you girls still make my day with your beautiful smiles.

Totally Whatever

Thank you for the 'previously seen in' breakdown! Yes, I do have Britbox - sometimes I'll get Acron TV too.

Totally Whatever

We've missed you! So glad you are back for this reaction. If there is more Serge in 3, then we must continue with this series.

christopher b swanson

I heard it's good despite the time since the 3rd, and if the ladies watch it, I'll watch it, but the 3rd is just bad.........bad

christopher b swanson

fellow Chicagoans, maybe a future collection of Chicago-based movies, or filmed in Chicago even if not about Chicago, lots of great movies in that from 70s to 2000 that you ladies are targeting...................though when i heard roosewood mention butch and sundance i thought yeah.........but its pre 1970, but epic and maybe worth the stretch to honor robert redford...............but id kill to watch the natural-1984 with you ladies

Totally Whatever

Yes, a future collection of Chicago-based movies is a fantastic idea!! We are eyeing some Robert Redford movies right now. Stay tuned.

christopher b swanson

im all in on a marathon of movies or poll to choose movies from his filmography, im 53, from Chicago, so not crazy older than you ladies but 70s-2000s is my jam, I'll be excited to see your journey, and thank you for the constant effort at likes and replies to all in your community

Totally Whatever

It has been a crazy journey so far, and we are loving every minute. Thanks for being part of our community and for all your support.

Great reaction! - Martin Brest did a great job directing this film and would also direct the 1988 comedy action hit "Midnight Run", which also starred John Ashton (Taggart). - Carolyn was really jamming to the music in this one. Maybe the most dancing ever. 1980s music is amazing. - Axel's boss Inspector Todd was played by a real Detroit cop Gil Hill. I am the son of a policeman who retired decades ago. I can attest that the opening scene is more like how cops were in the "old days" thirty years ago or so. Times have changed. Things are less gritty nowadays. - I love the contrast between Axel's Detroit style and the overly politically correct style of Beverly Hills. Amazing that this movie is now 40 years old, and California was already that ahead of other areas in terms of being "by the book" and PC. - Yes, that was actor Ronny Cox who had a role in "Robocop". He has been in many films over the years and is a very good actor. - That was Damon Wayans in his first movie appearance as "Banana Man", giving Axel the bananas for the tailpipe. - I think the scene where they take down the criminals in the strip club, and Axel gives Taggart the "okay!" sign, is one of the best scenes ever in a film to show the change in trust between two characters. It was at that moment that Taggart respects Axel as a fellow police officer. - Those coffee and donuts looked amazing. - I noticed Nanette recoil when bad guy Maitland kissed Jenny on the cheek. It takes a good actor to play a role that makes the audience recoil like that in disgust. - Judge Reinhold became a really big deal in the 1980s after the success of Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982) and Beverly Hills Cop (1984). There are other films you guys will likely see him in, a good one is "Ruthless People" with Bette Midler and Danny Devito from 1986. He also played the stepfather in Tim Allen's "The Santa Clause" films. - Sequels absolutely count for your channel. Beverly Hills Cop II is excellent, Part III is the weakest but still watchable, and the new one from 2024 was good. I personally don't believe in skipping sequels, and I recommend all of them.

Totally Whatever

Thanks, Mike! Yes, 80s music is the best - we've been humming that theme song all week. I thought I recognized Damon Wayans as the "Banana Man"! And Carolyn picked out Ronny Cox from "Robocop".

REDR58

Midnight Run is very good!

REDR58

Another fun buddy cop movie that is set in Chicago is “Running Scared” from 1986 with Billy Crystal and the late Gregory Hines. It is directed by Peter Hyams and I highly recommend it.

christopher b swanson

I think this is 2nd reply to mention this.............so I hope our favorite movie ladies see this..........Running Scared 1986 is 1 of my fave movies of alltime, 1 of the top chicago movies of alltime, maybe the original buddy cop movie that started the genre, being ahead of leathel weapon release date but different...........and it is easily 1 of the most underrated under appreciated movies of the 80s, almost forgotten by mainstream, but my god its fun, esp if you love chicago............seeing it in theaters as a 14 year old it made me love key west and sunsets...........funny thing for a chicago movie................now dont put my cub hat on that head lololololol

REDR58

An excellent British mystery show is The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (1984) starring Jeremy Brett.

Gil Todd who plays the always exasperated Detroit Police Inspector Todd was a real police officer and politician in Detroit. The first three Beverly Hills cop movies are the only movies he ever acted in. The German composer Harold Faltermeyer wrote the score for the movie with and he later composed the music for “Top Gun.” The main piece of theme music is called “Axel F”: https://youtu.be/Qx2gvHjNhQ0?si=GOr3OQshS6qtN3_K Jonathan Banks who plays Zack who kills Mikey in the hallway is the actor who you recognized from Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. Lisa Eilbacher (Jenny) was born in Saudi Arabia and who eventually did move to Beverly Hills later in life is also in another very good movie called “An Officer and a Gentleman” with Richard Gere. She was only in 11 movies between 1972 and 1992 but did lot of TV. She retired in 1995. British actor Steven Berkoff (Victor Maitland) plays a wonderfully crazy Russian general in the 1983 James Bond movie “Octopussy” and is also in one of my very favorite movies, “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” (2011). He has been acting since 1958. Ronnie Cox (from Robocop, yes!) plays the Lt. Bogomil in the Beverly Police Department and yes he often plays bad guys in movies. The guy in the lobby with the bananas is Damon Wayans of The Wayans Brothers family of actors and comedians. Stuffing the tailpipe with a the bananas just makes the engine stall in the movie, but in reality, the engine exhaust is way too powerful and the bananas would just be spat out. You’d have to somehow jam a rigid, solid object to seal up the pipe and make the car stall. There is a DeLorean DMC-12 (like from Back to the Future) parked in front of Victor Maitland‘s house. You can see it on the left side of the screen when Axel drives off after having a picnic with the “first team” cops. Serge is played by Bronson Pinchot (Balki Bartokomous!). He is also in the official music video for “Neutron Dance by The Pointer Sisters from this movie: https://youtu.be/i-jdhorGtQI?si=lOVhGPcDaVpxyIdR Movie locations, including the big shoot out scene indoors and out: https://www.seeing-stars.com/Locations/BHCop3.shtml The movie’s director, Martin Brest with unfortunate name plays the hotel’s checkout clerk. Great reaction! BHC2 is even better.

Totally Whatever

I've seen a few of those episodes but not the whole series.

Totally Whatever

Thank you, as always, REDR58, for all of the extra trivia. We can't wait for BHC2 - we thought it might be even better than the first. That music video is too much fun! I hate to admit it but I always thought they were singing "new town dance". lol

REDR58

Yes, “neutron” dance is kind of a funny word for a song. But it’s catchy!

Kevin Rubio

BHC2 is a different tone entirely. Also a different director - Tony Scott.

EDDIE MURPHY FUN FACTS: 1.) The film was originally developed as a vehicle for Sylvester Stallone. 2.) This film cemented Eddie Murphy as Paramount Studios "Golden Boy." Michael Eisner signed him to a multi picture deal, part of it included his own production company on the lot - EMP. The studio gave Eddie Cecil B DeMille's building as his head quarters 3.) Studios use golf carts and bikes to traverse their lots. Paramount gave Eddie a Rolls Royce golf cart, complete with hood ornament and gold trim. (it was the 80s) 4.) Eddie is a collector of cars, and he had long admired A.C. Lye's (studio exec and Paramount emeritus) 1957 Ford Thunderbird. A.C. promised him that if he re-sign another exclusive deal when his contract was up that he would will the car to him. He made good on his promise. 5.) Eddie Murphy's first and last directed film HARLEM NIGHTS (1989) featured three generations of African-American comedy - Redd Foxx, Richard Prior, and Eddie. 6.) His film EDDIE MURPH: RAW (1987) originally received an X rating by the MPAA. 7.) I've met Eddie on several occasions. Nice guy. He signed my Harlem Nights one sheet. It still hangs on my wall. 8.) Eddie almost did a stand-up tour. Comedians who had been influenced by him, like Dave Chappelle and Chris Rock, were having difficulty booking venues because Eddie had lined up their usual stops, but then Covid hit and it all fell apart. 9.) He is the recipient of The Mark Twain Prize. The highest honor that can be bestowed upon a comedian. In his acceptance speech he joked that the word "prize" usually means there's money given. https://youtu.be/XR5zruX3AT0?si=3l3ESGgIxLTNArdS 10.) Today, Eddie lives a quiet life in Los Angeles California. He has 10 kids.

Totally Whatever

These are great, Kevin, thanks for sharing. I wouldn't mind having a Rolls-Royce golf cart!

Greg In East TN

Actually, Arthur Barrow (former bass player for Frank Zappa) did most of the work on Danger Zone. But since he worked for Giorgio Moroder, he didn't receive any credit or accolades. Sad how that works.

Greg In East TN

It's a great song. I've always liked it.

Greg In East TN

>Jonathan Banks who plays Zack who kills Mikey in the hallway< is also Gunderson, the radar operator at the airport in the movie Airplane! Also, reading about Robocop above reminds me there's another Robocop alumni (Murphy) that had a recurring role in the series Longmire, Peter Weller. That is a great series. I highly recommend it.

Chryss Guiler

"Sherlock Holmes (1984) starring Jeremy Brett" I absolutely love that series, and I bought the DVD's 'cause I love it so much. I highly recommend it. Jeremy Brett played Freddy in the musical My Fair Lady, too.

Chryss Guiler

Yep, I love Running Scared, too.
