One day I wish you girls would react to Outbreak. It was my first disaster event movie if I remember correctly and its also good.

Gábor Árki

Some high profile sci-fi recommendations: - THE ABYSS (1989), and my vote is for the longer Special/Ultimate edition cut - THE FIFTH ELEMENT (1997) - CONTACT (1997) These are usually popular, but have a lot of reactions already. Some underrated ones: - ENEMY MINE (1985) - GATTACA (1997) - STARMAN (1984) - INNERSPACE (1988)

Check out "Contagion" an exact COVID prediction

AdrianF

Anything but Deep Impact for me. I can't abide Tea Leoni.

Byrd N. Hand

I'm not really into disaster movies, to be honest. I guess it's 'better luck next poll' for me. 🤷‍♂️

Byrd N. Hand

Another eerily pandemic-prescient film (though not remotely disaster-related): the 1968 comedy/satire "What's So Bad About Feeling Good?" starring George Peppard and Mary Tyler Moore.

Perry Campbell

Dam all of these are great movies worth a watch. I had to go with Towering Inferno with its all-Star Cast!!!!!

Kevin Rubio

The Towering Inferno seems to be the one that's received the most votes, but I would like to make a case for The Poseidon Adventure. It has much more spectacle. They literally turn the entire set upside down. Sure Inferno has Steeve McQueen and Paul Newman, but Poseidon has Gene Hackman and Leslie Nelson, and it doesn't have OJ. They're both Erwin Allen films, so the scripts are pretty cheesy, especially by today's standards, but if I has to choose one over the other, it would be Poseidon.

The Andromeda Strain (1971) Outbreak (1995)

I saw Earthquake as a tween in a theater equipped with the brand new Sensurround system, in which massive subwoofers made the building feel like it was actually shaking when the earthquake struck. It was pretty effective... and really noisy! It was tough to hear the dialog at times, but it certainly made the film seem more realistic! 🫨

I'm surprised how well The Towering Inferno is doing. That movie scarred me as a kid. I still vividly remember that day even though I was around 5. Haven't dared to watch it since. 😅

Gábor Árki

It is rated PG, so I doubt it is considered very scary. But when I was five, it definitely felt that way, and it left me with a lifelong unease of building fires.

Mike the Ginger

I have seen all of these except for The Swarm (1978). I would love to watch any of these again, but my vote has to go to The Towering Inferno (1974). Such a great movie. Like Gabor Arki, I actually saw it when I was like...5 years old. I remember even back then, it held my attention span. At that time, it was only a twenty year old movie. Now it is 51 years old! Crazy!

Joseph George

Yay for Towering Inferno is leading

Joe J

I would add Independence Day (1996), Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977), and Star Wars (1977).

AdrianF

Nope. She genuinely grates me.

Byrd N. Hand

I imagine the girls have seen the Star Wars saga by now (which is technically *fantasy* with sci-fi elements). Of course, I rarely watch any SW reactions anymore, mostly because I vehemently disagree with first-time viewers - especially adult ones - watching them in release order, since it largely spoils Eps. I-III... yet the vast majority of movie reaction viewers still doggedly insist on it, and the vast majority of reactors blindly comply as a result. 🤷‍♂️ My personal preferred order to show first-time viewers would be alternating between both trilogies in some way -- either I-IV-II-V-III-VI, I-II-IV-V-III-VI, or IV-I-II-V-III-VI. That way, the big revelations from the OT that my generation and other older people still care so much about remain intact (albeit somewhat re-contextualizing them), *and* you won't go into Eps. I-III already knowing their general outcome, and, thus, end up potentially not being as invested in its story as a result. Basically, it turns the whole saga into a sort of 12-hour version of "The Godfather, Part II," where you're going back and forth between 2 timelines and seeing first-hand the parallels between the central characters in both timelines.

Totally Whatever

Thanks for the suggestions, Joe! Carolyn has been wanting to watch Close Encounters for a long time. We both have seen the original Star Wars movie - I'll have to check with Carolyn to find out which ones she has seen.

Joe J

Sorry, I missed seeing Star Wars on your letterbox....duh, lol.

Totally Whatever

Joe - I just added it because you mentioned it! So you didn't miss it.

Joe J

Sneaky.....so I'm not losing my mind.😆

thebeefmaster

Somewhere in October you might consider "The Entity" (1982) Based on a true story. Be forewarned, it can be a bit traumatizing for some.

Totally Whatever

I've never heard of that one. Thanks for the warning - we will check it out.

Joe J

Glad The Towering Inferno won. The ladies could also watch The Poseidon Adventure.
