Chicago girl Amy Madigan (Annie) also appears with Gaby Hoffman (Karen) in Uncle Buck (1989) with John Candy and McCauley Culkin. Great, heartfelt comedy. Maybe Candy's best.

This film ties into a few other baseball movies... 1. Eight Men Out- I believe someone 😀may have mentioned that once or twice before. 2. James Earl Jones and Art LaFleur (the actor who plays White Sox first baseman Chick Gandil) both appear in The Sandlot (1993). That's a must-watch. 3. Timothy Busfield (Annie's brother, Mark) portrays an all-star first baseman on the Minnesota Twins in Little Big League (1994). Underrated movie- very realistic baseball action, real players, no camera tricks. 4. James Earl Jones also appears in the 1976 film about a Negro League team - Bingo Long and the Traveling All-Stars, with Billy Dee Williams, Richard Pryor and Tony Burton (Apollo's trainer, "Duke")

I remember in one of my earlier interactions with the two of you that I said there were a few perfect films. This is one of them. I’m so glad the two of you got a chance to see it. It is one of the few films that men are allowed to cry while watching. Understandably; it is a big hit with the major leagues. So much so, that they actually played a game, not on this field, but they built another one right next to it that was regulation size. You can find that game on YouTube. Kevin Costner introduces the players and they do indeed walk out of the cornfield in period uniforms. James Earl Jones gave his ending speech twice. You are seeing the second take. The original field still exist, and people come from all over the world to play on it. I cannot search for it now, but if I find the MBL game, I will post it here for you.

"Is this heaven?" "No, it's Iowa." became the unofficial state motto after this film.

In the book Terence Mann is actually author Pierre Salinger. They could not get the rights to uses his likeness for the film, so they created Terence.

We need to add that one to the list. I didn't realize Amy is from Chicago - just looked her up and she is married to Ed Harris (one of our favs).

Thank you! Would have loved to be there for this. They did a fantastic job filming this - I love the cameramen hiding in the cornfields.

Her accent is on full display in Uncle Buck. I could listen to her and Jami Gertz talk all day. 😀

...and of course Kevin Costner stars in the greatest baseball movie Bull Durham.

Another recent Amy Madigan movie, has anyone here seen “Weapons”? I don’t want to spoil her part but she is great in it, it came out a few months ago and it is freaky.

Bill W

I saw it via reaction on PiB.

The ladies of Maine and Illinois both repping my beloved northsiders..........hell yeah.............party on wayne, party on garth

Here I want to be complimentary in a different way, one of the things you do really well is that you show enough of the movie that people can follow the whole plot and you have just the right amount of commentary. I have to confess, I had never seen “Field of Dreams” and didn’t know the plot, but I was able to follow it and the emotional twists based on this alone. Well done, I will leave a like and comment on You Tube tomorrow, I’m on leave this week so I actually have time to watch your reactions:)

J. D. Salinger. Pierre Salinger was Kennedy's Press Secretary, J. D. Salinger wrote THE CATCHER IN THE RYE.

If you build it they will come !! Or is it HE will come !!" I'll have to check that out later life has thrown me a few curve balls but I'm all about stepping up to the plate. ( I know anymore baseball references !!😆⚾ Hopefully I can catch this later as it will be a first time watch for me as well Hope to be around N+C🖤♥️

Totally Whatever

Thank you, Bill. That is a very nice compliment. Enjoy your leave!!

Bill W

It's the movie's own fault that people get it wrong. The voice says "If you build it, HE will come." but the whole ending scene the discussion is about "PEOPLE (ie...plural, as in 'they') will come." And JEJ says like 3 or 4 times. That's why most people think it's "they".

Totally Whatever

Harvey, thanks for stopping by the premiere! We always love having you there.

One last thing....Congratulations on being the FIRST reactors to understand that Mark was trying to help them keep their home. Most people are so ready to label him as a villain, because otherwise the movie doesn't have one, and I guess that's confusing to them. When Karen falls....that was a complete accident. They probably could have chosen a different camera angle or something to make that more obvious, but you'll notice that neither Ray, nor Annie, nor anyone else is angry or condemns Mark for that. He wouldn't intentionally endanger his niece. Also, I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure, in the history of baseball before or since this film, no one else has ever used the expression "have a catch". 🙄 Sigh, Canadian author. I don't know how that made it to the final cut. 😀

Totally Whatever

Yes, I do wish they used a slightly different angle on Karen's fall. It wasn't very clear that it was an accident.
