It's impossible to count how many times I've watched this film. The cameos (including the uncredited) are amazing... including Frank Oz, Steven Spielberg, Joe Walsh, Pee Wee... and yes, that was Chaka Khan in the choir. P.S. Everyone should do themselves a favor by actively listening to more Sam & Dave, Booker T. & the M.G.'s, The Blues Brothers, Wilson Pickett, Jackie Wilson, Bill Withers, etc. (just to name a few). Your soul will thank you! lol

Phil Stubblefield

Amen, Brother Ace! There have been few better soundtracks in the history of filmdom! 🎸🎷🎶

christopher b swanson

This movie forever ingrained into my brain from childhood on, the address to Wrigley Field.............1060 West Addison

Totally Whatever

We need to re-watch this immediately. We really missed so much. Steven Spielberg!?!?

William Fortner

There a old joke is that Carrie Fisher learned how to shot a gun from a Strom Trooper. That how she always miss. Also the corrections officer who gave all Hake things back is Frank Oz. The puppeteer and voice of Yoda also Frozy the Bear and Miss Piggy.

Take a closer look at the clerk in the Cook County Assessor's office... 😁

Welcome aboard, Rick! You've come to an excellent community led by an extremely nice pair of fantastically talented creators!

Silver Machine

R.I.P. Steve Cropper, the long-haired guitarist for the Blues Brothers who died this week at age 84. He played on many huge hits by Otis Redding, Sam & Dave, Wilson Pickett... too many to list!

Nanolyn, in your most recent "Coming up this week" post, I commented: The Blues Brothers! Now we'll get to see whether your taste in music is as totally excellent as your taste in cinema! 😁 Your response: Oh boy - no pressure. Well, I'm happy to note that you do, in fact, have *totally excellent* taste in music! As an "Old Fart"™, I'm always ecstatic when youngsters such as yourselves recognize musicians from the best eras of music. (Ahem...) I was so pleased to see Carolyn's jaw drop the moment Aretha appeared on screen, immediately followed by, "Please tell me she's gonna sing!" The entire movie is a blast, but watching the Queen of Soul herself sing Think in a soul food diner is worth the price of admission all by itself! You also recognized Chaka Khan, Ray Charles, and James Brown (even though you couldn't quite retrieve his name). Plus, you both knew the song Sweet Home, Chicago! Well done! The guy you didn't recognize, Jake and Elwood's friend Curtis, was played by Cab Calloway, a jazz and swing megastar from the '30s and '40s who became the first African-American musician to sell a million copies of a record, in this case his signature song Minnie the Moocher that he performed in the film. One cameo that I hadn't known about until this viewing is the long-haired prisoner who jumps on a table to dance to Jailhouse Rock: none other than Eagles guitarist Joe Walsh! One of the most well known bits of trivia is that this film set the record at the time for the most cars destroyed during the production of a movie: 103! The record wasn't broken until 20 years later by the producers of its sequel, Blues Brothers 2000, who intentionally destroyed exactly one more car, for a total of 104! Random notes: * Before watching the reaction, I was thinking mostly about the music, so I hadn't even thought about how the mall scene was tailor made for Carolyn! * "Curl Up & Dye" LOL! * "What kind of music do you usually have here?" "Oh, we got both kinds. We got country *and* western!" 🤣 * For the final chase with the Nazis, don't you love how the soundtrack momentarily flipped from American R&B to the Ride of the Valkyries by German composer Richard Wagner? 😆 If you want to hear another *amazing* soundtrack, then check out The Commitments (1991), an underrated gem that, like The Blues Brothers, employed actors who were actually musicians that performed the music themselves!

Totally Whatever

PHEW! I'm glad we did ok with this one. I've been listening to the soundtrack on repeat since watching. 103 cars!! That's nuts. So, do we need to watch Blues Brothers 2000?

Totally Whatever

We would have done more dancing & singing - but syncing our reaction is a nightmare if we are doing that. We need to watch the 'musical' together.

Mr. Writhms

Great reaction! I'm not too into musicals but this is one of few exceptions! 🙂

Phil Stubblefield

I've never seen Blues Brothers 2000 myself. It wasn't well reviewed and is only rated 4.9/10 on IMDB. So that's probably a no...

Mike the Ginger

I love this movie. I have seen it a ton since I was a little kid and it never gets old. - Carolyn got her broken glass in this one! - The Illinois Nazi characters were based off the real life Nazi march in Skokie, Illinois in 1977. - John Landis, the director, also directed hit films including Animal House, Trading Places, and Coming to America. He also directed the music video for the 1983 Michael Jackson song "Thriller". You could probably tell by the well choreographed dancing. - You are right we hardly see neon signs anymore. Just like the lack of color on McDonalds buildings or the lack of color with vehicles. We need to bring bright colors back to our country. - Yes they dropped a car from a helicopter to achieve that scene. Here is a clip showing the making of it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZIUKbz1cj7o - Steven Spielberg has a cameo as the guy in the tax accessor office. Great reaction!

Totally Whatever

Thanks, Mike! I know, we missed Steven Spielberg! There was so much happening in this movie, especially during the end chase. Let's start a campaign to bring back neon signs. lol We are saving up for some TW signs to add to our filming set-up.

Kevin Rubio

This held the record for the most car crashes in a single movie until the sequel. The budget for the entire film totaled $20 million. For comparison; The Empire Strikes Back (also released that year) had a total budget of $22 million.

Kevin Rubio

DO NOT WATCH THE SEQUEL!!!

Phil Stubblefield

That sounds like the voice of experience speaking... 😆

Harvey Lee

Got to bust out my shades now 😎i love music this features some legends and a Guinness record title for most number of car crashes in single movie until said record was broken by it 's own sequel [i hope that all made sense ] 🤣

Totally Whatever

Yes! We knew you would come through with the behind-the-scenes.

Jay Davis

Aww. I only own the 2h 27m version but looks like the 2h 12m version is free on Prime rn so... "Hit it."

thomas king

One of the funniest movies ever!!

Chryss Guiler

Yes, soul music! My friend and I used to drive around the Washington DC Metro area back in the mid 60s listening to the soul stations!
