Redford and Newman had great chemistry. They were quite a pair! All of their movies clicked.

Dorsalfinsky

Hope this isn’t out of line, but you ladies are nearly as pretty as Robert Redford and Paul Newman.

Dorsalfinsky

But weren’t there just the two movies? Or do you mean like Hud and Ordinary People. And yeah, Raging Bull should have won, but only because Ordinary People is an incredible movie and Raging Bull is in the top ten of all time. At 14 in 1980, Conrad was my Kurt Cobain.

A little bit of trivia for you all.... Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid's infamous gang "The Wild Bunch" included a man called Harvey Alexander Logan, better known as Kid Curry..... after the success of this movie, he was immortalised in TV with the brilliantly entertaining show "Alias Smith and Jones" with Ben Murphy playing the outlaw alongside the wonderful Pete Duel as Hannibal Hayes..... Although the depiction of Kid Curry in the show was wildly different from true events, it was a fantastic and very re-watchable western tv show.... Sadly and tragically, Pete Duel died of suicide by gunshot at the young age of 31 shortly before filming of the third season causing the show to recast the role which quickly led to the shows own demise.

I’m wondering why no one has made a movie specifically about Etta Place. Like, she’s a ghost beyond the one picture of her and Sundance looking all high society and all good looking (cause he’s so hard to see).

Dorsalfinsky

Also, I think I’ve made my piece with the soundtrack. It’s almost revisionist, like Altman’s take on Westerns in McCabe and Mrs Miller. What am I saying. This soundtrack freaking grates at my very soul. I’d sooner listen to Coldplay. OK. That was a bit harsh. I’m going to bed before one of these broads bans me. ;)

Nashville. 1975. Robert Altman. Just a suggestion. Could be iffy to post, though no more so than Apocalypse Now since Nashville comes over as more of an allegory. Just don’t watch MASH 1970. Didn’t age real well.

Dorsalfinsky

Good night all. Goodnight Johnboy.

The bicycle scene seems a bit out of place somehow but It just makes me smile when I watch it. Nanette - "Asps. Very dangerous. You go first". Love the Indiana Jones shirt! Carolyn - Looks like you finished building your fossil. It looks HUGE! Well done!

Crimson Ace

Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head was written by Burt Bacharach specifically for this film. It won the Oscar for Best Original Song. Bacharach also won the Oscar for Best Original Score. In 2014, Raindrops was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.

"Think ya used enough dynamite there, Butch?" 🤣 Such a classic film, and one of the most handsome duos ever to grace the silver screen! The big deal today is our NFL Divisional Playoff here in Seattle, but once all our guests have left tonight — hopefully with the joy of another win in our hearts! — then I'll retire to the office and enjoy a Totally Whatever evening! 😁

Dorsalfinsky

I kind of forgot about this when I was flipping out about the soundtrack. Now that I’m older (an old fart), I love that song and the sequence. Isn’t that Elaine Robinson?

Harvey Lee

Paul Newman and Robert Redford despite their famous chemistry only did two films together The Sting and of course Butch Cassidy and the Sundance kid both directed by George Roy Hill . I am definitely going to be locked into watching this tonight . The names of these two legends like their on screen characters will always live on . I'll be enjoying this TW evening

Phil Stubblefield

Well, our football game went well (understatement of the season! IYKYK), so now I'm looking forward to kicking back with Butch, Sundance, Nanette, and Carolyn! Have a great evening, y'all! 🤠

Dorsalfinsky

Regarding George Roy Hill, it’s criminal The World According to Garp is never reacted to. No, autocorrect. Not The World According to Gary.

Dorsalfinsky

Hey! You chicks want to react to The World According to Gary?

Totally Whatever

They really do, we want more Redford & Newman movies to watch.

Dorsalfinsky

It’s a joke. It’s a joke. Settle down.

Totally Whatever

We've never heard of that show. What a tragic ending. - he was too young.

Totally Whatever

Ha ha - glad you like the shirt. The lego fossil is massive - we are still trying to find the perfect spot for it.

Totally Whatever

We love the song. It's so catchy, I know I'll be singing all day now.

Totally Whatever

Harvey - We wish there were more films with the two of them. What a great duo.

Terry In the UK

It's a really good show, and was very popular at the time (1971-1973 I believe )..... I'm sure you'd both love it, I sent the trailer for it.

Dorsalfinsky

Hey man. Link blocked in US.

Terry In the UK

Sorry about that.... didn't realise..If you want to watch the trailer it's probably somewhere else on YouTube if you search Alias Smith and Jones trailer.... it's also on Imbd if you search for the show... hope that helps.

Those of you who participate in the TW Off-Topic chat will know that I've been more than a bit distracted by football this weekend... After two days of yelling and cheering with friends and family, I *finally* found time to finish this reaction. Nanolyn, it was just as delightful as usual, even with that ending. 😢 I'll eschew my standard over-the-top comment volume for just a few notes... Carolyn, the look on your face when we first see Sundance shoot after the other card player asks, "Hey, kid, how good are you?" 😮 I think your chin might have actually hit your knees... A friend of mine once tried the Superman-on-a-bicycle trick. It didn't end well. Pro tip: Don't try that when one of the bolts on your front wheel is loose. And especially not on an asphalt surface... 🤕 Favorite lines: * "Think you used enough dynamite there, Butch?" * "If he'd just pay me what he's spending to make me stop robbing him, I'd stop robbing him!" And one of my favorite lines in the history of filmdom, which I've quoted for decades: * "Morons! I've got morons on my team!" (https://www.youtube.com/shorts/C9iPKh5RJiU) 🤣

Totally Whatever

We understand the distraction! Glad you finally got the chance to watch this one with us. We hope your friend recovered from the Superman-on-a-bicycle trick. It doesn't sound like it ended well. 😮

Kevin Rubio

I'm a little behind, but so glad the two of you finally got to see this "modern" Western classic. I believe the two of you have already seen THE STING (1973) which is the only other film in which both Redford and Newman appear together, but I would also recommend you two watch ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN [(1976) a Redford film] and SLAP SHOT [(1977) a Newman film].

Totally Whatever

Yes, we have seen The Sting. I wish they had more together. Three Days of the Condor just won producer's choice - so we have more Redford in the near future.

Tim

A couple of Western recommendations: The Outlaw Josey Wales, High Plains Drifter (very dark western) and True Grit. There are two versions of True Grit. The first one with John Wayne is good but I prefer the 2nd one with Jeff Bridges because it is more true to the actual novel and has much better acting
