That little alien is played by Ron Howard's little brother.

Harvey Lee

Glad you're on this Trek journey . When I was a wee lad that first alien looked kind of creepy then the boy alien's dubbed laugh made me laugh out loud . Happy Sunday N+C 😄

Their father was an actor who got them both into roles as children. Clint Howard is probably the only person to appear in the original Star Trek and a Star Wars movie. Solo was directed by his brother, who puts him in most of his movies somewhere.

Totally Whatever

Thanks for the trivia, Paul. We can't believe that was him.

Clint Howard started his acting career shortly after his brother Ron, and was a child star in his own right with the TV show GENTLE BEN (1967). Ron has always included a roll for his brother in every one of his films, and Clint's nice Bryce is an acclaimed actor and director in her own right. Thirty-something years after this episode, Clint would reprise this Star Trek roll, as a favor to me, in a television pilot I directed for MTV. The show was not picked up, but Clint was forever grateful that I pushed back his call time so that he could finish what he said was the best golf game of his life. https://youtu.be/ZLWoQf2Pb-Y?si=WtfQRVaTHNCuX4ki

Wrap Up Questions Answered (kind of) Yes. There uniforms are different. There are also subtle design and color changes throughout the ship, as well as some changes to the model of the ship itself. The main reason for this was that in the 60s, the sponsors and the networks were pushing the latest technology - "COLOR TELEVISON!" Naturally that wanted there shows to feature as much color as possible, which is why you have a color change for the uniforms and why you will see the occasional splash of color thrown up against the walls of the ship with no apparent light source. In-Universe, the colors denote departments. GOLD - Command and Helm BLUE - Science and Medical RED - Operations. You'll note that in this episode Uhura wears gold. She is command, and is actually third in line after Spock, but the network affiliates in the south objected to the very idea of an African-American on the show, the never would have aired an episode where she takes command. Though she has taken the helm in episodes, and finally takes command in the Animated series. Her uniform color was changed at the request of the networks that wanted all colors present on the bridge. The stripes on the collar are rank markings. The number and thickness denote the rank of commissioned officers. NO STRIPE - Ensign 1 STRIPE (Thin) - Lieutenant Junior Grade 1 STRIPE (Standard) - Lieutenant 2 STRIPES (One Thin) - Lieutenant Commander 2 STRIPES - Commander (First Officer) 3 STRIPES (or middle broken) - Captain 1 THICK STRIPE (three stripes in thickness) - Commodore 2 STRIPES (Standard and Thick) - Rear Admiral 3 STRIPES (Standard/Thick/Standard) - Vice Admiral 3 STRIPES (Standard/Standard/Thick) Rear Admiral 5 STRIPES (Stand./Stand./Thick/Stand./Stand.) Admiral of the Fleet While you will never see most of these ranks on the show, they were established in later years through ancillary IPs, and though it in not canonical, in recent years some "Trekies/Trekers" have named cited that the Admiral of the Fleet is Admiral Ball, named after Lucile Ball. Her Studio - Desilu, produced the show and she was the one who greenlit two pilots. You may not see some of the ship because of the limited episodes., and the budget didn't allow for too much of the ship. You will mostly see: Main Bridge, Sick Bay, Conference Room, Officers/Guest Quarters (one room redressed), Engine Room (it will expand each season, Transporter Room, Turbo Shaft, Jeffries Tubes, and the hallways. There was a gym - "Charlie X" and a Shuttle Bay - "Journey To Bable" and Shuttle Bay Observation Deck - "Conscience of the King" and a Cafeteria/Rec Room - "The Trouble With Tribbles." I hope that answer it for you.

Ha ha, if you have an incredible game going, you can't just stop mid-way. That was fantastic, thanks for sharing the link to your pilot!

Totally Whatever

Yes! Thanks for answering our questions. We will have to keep this up as a reference when we watch. It seems we have so much to learn!

I LOVE what is called "Incidental music" in this series, truly it's own character. The drink "Tranya" for this episode was just pink grapefruit juice. Clint Howard famously despised grapefruit juice. His father, Rance Howard, reportedly told him to "act like you like it," resulting in a slight shudder that is visible on screen as he drinks it lol

Totally Whatever

Well, now we have to go back and look for that shutter - too cute.

Perry Campbell

Another great reaction!!! Hopefully u gals get hooked lol 😂 yea people in the 60’s probably more trustworthy than nowadays 😭😭😭

Kevin Rubio

No need to get bogged down by 60 years of minutia. Just enjoy the show. :-)

It's not the full pilot. It's just the Upfront presentation, but I'll tell you what. I will send you the revised pilot script when we took another go in 2016. I No longer have access to the original material.

Phil Stubblefield

Carolyn, you have just become even more of a hero to me by using the word "dodecahedron"! 😁

I'm loving the reactions so far! Thanks for including this beloved episode. And even bigger thanks for watching these shows in production order, instead of the nonsensical broadcast order. It really gives a clear picture of how the series grew and evolved through the first season.

Totally Whatever

Love to hear that! I'm glad we are getting the episode order correct.
