"The Germans" has to be one of the most hysterical, politically incorrect sitcom episodes of all time.

Harvey Lee

Whatever you do don't mention the war !! ....😅 Basil Fawlty is even more unhinged than usual here if that's possible . Love these episodes .

I know you were a little confused about what the Major was on about in "The Germans". Essentially, they were making fun of him for thinking he was being nice by using the right slur for the right group of people, so it's a joke on the Major character.

Totally Whatever

We didn't think he could be even MORE unhinged but we were wrong. lol

AdrianF

Depending on where you see it, it had been heavily edited I thought. I assumed that's why they were confused during the Basil/Major segment. Ahhh, read the description so prob the original version.

Gourmet Night Fawlty is trying to fix his 1967 Austin 1100 Countryman, a make of car that is related to the Mini Cooper cars you might be more familiar with. Fawlty mentions “Robert Carrier” who was a famous chef from the US who worked in Britain. He was also on TV there: https://youtu.be/v6qdWde8Hnc?is=pTpScheJVbvqgkA_ Trifle is supposed to be a dessert made with sponge cake or ladyfingers soaked in sherry but this thing is more gooey/geltinous inside? https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/food_and_recipes/5433928-fawlty-towers-trifle-what-is-it Trifle: https://youtu.be/ajVVWzS_Ltw?is=i2lYMyyDrcNkbVOl

One thing about "The Germans," before Fawlty starts marching around with his exaggerated goose-stepping, he says he'll do the "silly walk" and that is a direct callback to a skit from the 1970 season, 1st episode of "Monty Python's Flying Circus" called "Face the Press" and if you would like to see that skit you can see it here, but I recommend you save Monty Python for a future reaction? But seeing the clip now isn't a big deal for "spoilers": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ptUMe9eqYE&themeRefresh=1

Thanks for sharing. We do plan to watch flying circus at some point.

Totally Whatever

That berry trifle looks much better than the one on Fawlty. But I would eat either ;)

Totally Whatever

I think we were thrown off a bit and then the Major really mumbles his lines.

Episode 6 had me laughing so hard I cried! Especially near the end If you thought Basil Fawlty raised your blood pressure just wait until you see The Brittas Empire lol
