Oh, what's this? Something new in the mid-week slot? Yep, we're introducing EXP's newest expert: Toby Capwell!

Toby is an independent scholar, curator, an expert on arms and armor, as well as a historical advisor for movies and TV. Ahead of a new series of Expert Reacts videos starring Toby, we caught up with the man as he donned his suit of armour for a recent event in the UK.

Our chat covered everything from his thoughts on the historical accuracy of Ridley Scott movies to his excitement for checking out Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2! Oh, and classic adventure movie, A Knight’s Tale gets several mentions, so look out for that too…

Don't forget, as an Extended Episode patron you get an extra long video with a bunch of extra content, a week earlier than the main feed, and it's ad-free.

You have no idea how envious I am of you getting to meet Toby and see all that armour 1st hand. I've seen your previous videos with Toby but this is without a doubt my favourite. I've also seen him in various historical documentaries and this is still better than those. I can't wait to see future videos with Toby. Also congratulations on getting Toby onboard with EXP, I wonder what an episode with Toby AND Johnathan would be like, just a thought. It is a pleasure and an honour to support exp.

Awesome! Awesome awesome awesome, love the idea of these deeper dives not just into the video games or the movies or other general media, but deeper dives with the actual Experts you guys are working with. How they view the media portrayals of their field, the niche and grimy thoughts they have on the most minute stuff; I absolutely love this format, and I think this is a great idea. Maybe we can get a similar video with Jonathan as well down the line, even if we're well familiar with his work already of course

Getting the band back together! I can't recall if y'all have done Elder Scrolls with him or not? Might be interesting to hear his thoughts on some of the scrap armor cobbled together in some post apocalypse settings like Fallout as well.

The comment about fighting being exhausting whether you're in armour or not is very real. Even in the highly abstracted context of modern Olympic style fencing, a bout doesn't go more than 3 minutes of actual fencing time without a break because otherwise it'd be too exhausting to do more than one or two bouts in a row. During each point though? You almost don't notice the extra exertion - it feels the same whether it's at 80% or 100% intensity. Sometimes the higher intensity actually feels easier because you're getting an adrenaline boost. The fatigue from that wearing off is pretty heavy, though. Feels like you've done a full 12 hours of hard labour but it only took 15 minutes.
