SPOONMAN WINS!!! Fatality!!

Mike Mitchell of the Doughboys AND the Napa Boys travels to the Check Republic to help us discuss the sequelitis-afflicted sequel to 1995’s Mortal Kombat: 1997’s Mortal Kombat: Annihilation.

Topics include: how many dicks does Goro have? What is Scorpion’s (the Mortal Kombat character, not Amelia’s dad) dick like? How many times can one see Mercy in a week? Could it have been anyone but the Napa Boys? Babality acting, torch holding, Avatar-TAR, Muppets autofocus, Walter Supreme, residual check-ins, and more.

Movie begins at 27:57

Cain Rodriguez

I credit this patreon series with Arrow announcing the 4K set

Patrick Donges

The MK theme remix gets me every time.

Spencer Pommier

Obviously Johnny Cage's penis would have sunglasses

Kyle Obo

Of course in march madness Mortal Kombat would have lost to the charmin bear chronicles or some shit

Joel Pelanne

Saw the first in theaters, grabbed this one from Blockbuster, thank god

P03TH3IR

Joyful noise I have to go to The Alamo in NY now.

Andrew McEwan

Glorious to see "Movie begins at 27:57"

Christopher Teuma

I'm going through Australian movie releases from 1998 because the days of the week line up with 2026, and this came out April 9 so this time's PRETTY well for me.

Doc Holidaze

Spoonman wins! Flawless victory

Dick Sneak

Not only is Patreon the crappy movie tier, but it’s the place where Griff gets nasty.

Cattrax

Please, for the Henson/Oz series include "Follow That Bird" be on the Patreon

Chris Hubbard

Laughed very hard at Mitch’s dad/Walter comment.

Spencer Pommier

Is there any way I could pay for a separate podcast patreon where it's just Griffin saying the word Noob Saibot once a day?

Michael Kolodziej

I saw this in the theaters for a friend's birthday party. At the end, when it changes back to the regular world, someone in the audience loudly said "What the hell?" And that's the most I remember about the movie.

Dick Sneak

Can’t wait to hear what you guys think about the recent MK. Because, yeah, I’m watching it right now, and it really is better than I remember it being back during its COVID release. Though, just like when I first watched it, I do find it funny the way people are acting around Kano. A character who is a fun wise cracking cat like Ben is, but every character hates him, and deep down want him dead. A sentiment that I think audiences probably didn’t share.

I’m just saying

Mitch being most attracted to the mom is no peeking behavior

Daniel Citron

I only played mortal kombat once when I was a kid so I have no emotional or nostalgic connection to this, but the music at the start RULES

Daniel

I'm so glad I rewatched this before listening. Ira so goddamn bad, but in a hilarious way. Also, for those who don't know, Motaro is played by Malibu, the American Gladiator.

Dick Sneak

I’m sad that nobody recognized that not only is Malibu in this, but American Gladiator Saber played Jax.

K-Dot

The orb cage bits made me lol like an insane person on the treadmill in the gym, thank you for making my day with this insane film

Mac Johnson

To answer David’s question, I was a stupid thirteen year old seeing this in the theater and have a vivid memory of the revelation that “oh, movies can actually be really bad”

Rh

Did Mike confirm “Star Trek: The Animated Series” will get a live-action treatment?

Douglas Wykstra

The Napa Boys is showing at my local indie theater this weekend! Can't wait to complete the tetralogy.

Douglas Wykstra

Arrow should give you the option to pay $50 for both movies, or just the first one for $75.

Joe P

Oh no! Griff equated Philadelphia and Yinzers!

Garry Bonesteel

Can we just keep the mortal kombat special features opening?

K-Dot

The first film felt like a fun, hammy Enter The Dragon style martial arts tournament with fantasy elements. This one felt more like a high-budget Power Rangers episode that ends up being unintentionally funny for taking itself far too seriously

Kevin Kuenn

I distinctly remember when Sindel looks right to camera and declares "You fools! You were tricked!' looking over at my friends and nodding vigorously.

Rice

I'm only I'm these comments for this speculation

Daniel S

If it reassures Griff about the black nose discharge - I worked a summer in a recycling plant and black stuff came out of my nose for well over a week after I left the job - it was just dust from all the paper fiber and has had no negative health impacts at all. Though I guess in catacombs I suppose it could be old bone dust from dead people

Josh Harvey

Definitely saw this in theaters at 16 yrs old…as soon as they started traveling via tunnel/orb technology I was out.

Warren Ayers

I have avoided this movie for nearly 30 years, and now I can say with certainty I was right

Mike Cook

I vote to make the Mortal Kombat version of the Blank Check opening theme song, the new permanent theme song.

Ian

To David’s point, I was a 14-year-old idiot who saw this in the theaters. I did think this was bad at the time, and that was before the Eiffel Tower showed up.

WAVE SANA

Caper is my absolute favorite because it gives Piggy more to do than just be jealous in the background. Manhattan is too meandering for me and doesn’t have Grodin absolutely killing it as Nicky Holiday. 🏊‍♀️ 🏍️ ⚾️ 💎

Norman Normalperson

Can Blank Check Productions get to work on on making Event Horizon 2 & 3 back to back so they can cover Event Horizon? At this stage they have the deep bench of creatives as regular guest. David Lowery could direct 2 and Jane Schoenbrun could do 3. Grif and Rachel Zegler finally together on screen. Lin-Manuel could do some songs.

Spencer Hall

The like… confidant refusal to get almost any single detail about the Mortal Kombat characters right has me laughing so hard

Cale Woods

Annabelle Comes Home is a fantastic unofficial Goosebumps movie.

Rad Rodge

I somehow forgot the song was coming and just lost my mind with joy

BEEEEEEEEEEEEEES

The story on this movie, allegedly, is that the film that got released to theaters was an unfinished work print that tested well. There was supposed to be an additional pass editing, sound, special effects, basically an entire phase of the post-production process, that was skipped because New Line execs chose to release what they had instead of spending more money. Still a bad movie, but that's supposed to be why it looks so incompetently made instead of just regular bad.

Gandalf the Grey

Just how I like my Mortal Kombat episodes, with a 10 minute Wayne's world preamble. Awesome. - For Frodo!

Aaron Summers

Not for nothing, but 10-year-old me ate this shit right up and begged for thirds, and even watching it now in my late 30's, I totally appreciate why that was.

John Spriggs

My guess for the Mike Mitchell movie is a live action adaptation of “Gargoyles.” Planting my flag in the ground.

Designnosaur

Still waiting on an image of David’s Whale press photo.

Mike Loiacono

Since David stumbled on the Clay Fighter episode, if you like dissections of bad media, everyone reading this should check out Matt McMuscles' series The Worst Fighting Game.

Max Carwile

Griff needs to up his studying before George Lucas talk show comes to Pittsburgh next month

Garden

shout-out to Griffin for making a stupid joke about polyamory. it's been a while since either of them said anything eye-rollingly ignorant and I was starting to worry. if they stopped being dumbasses I think it would throw off the whole vibe of the show.

pantyscribbles

please keep this remix of the intro and outro going forward it fuckin owns bones!

John-Paul

Welsh Dankness is a great name for a band.

John-Paul

That's the one with the Expendables of 2010s child stars, right?

John-Paul

Never mind, it was just McKenna Grace. Dunno what I was thinking of.

Kokosmakroner

Underrated moment: Mitch pronouncing Capote like "elote"

Gunner

Finch

A live action Toy Story huh? Sounds like a bad idea

Anthony Del Vecchio

Losing my mind at the guys missing the moment where Raiden reveals Shao Kahn is his brother, then arguing about it and landing on “no, he’s not.”

Olivia
