I’m not good enough with derivatives and multivariable calculus yet to make a pretty line showing where level requirements start to go ridiculous unfortunately.

Since Emmy will be likely be going away on her own quest for a good chunk of the next arc, are the plans to keep the POV centered on Sylvia and mostly get an after action report. We do get to see other character’s focused on, but usually only when Slyvia is nearby or involved. Or you can just slap my hand and say wait and see… I do think other remote perspective in other parts of the world like Heaven or Fey Federation would be interesting, but it would derail and slow down the story. We also know relatively little about those areas.

I always keep the primary POV on Sylvia. Sylvia will, however, have some long distance conversations with her wife.

Question, how long do demons live? It’s mentioned a few times but I swear it’s different every time lol

I think it depends on how powerful they are

From a comment by Xylix in chapter 40:

    “Life spans are: (500 + 250 * M) * (C+1)

Where M is the number of grand mutations and C is the number of consolidations. Thus a first consolidation demon lives for 1000 years and an 8th consolidation lives for approximately 11,250 years.”

    Wait, do transmigrations affect this?

Transmigrations do not directly increase or decrease the overall lifespan of the soul. However, it is most often an attempted transmigration that triggers the final true death.

Thus, sometimes immortals that know they are at their end of life will extend their time by avoiding transmigration. This isn’t terribly common, though, as many demons are long since ‘ready’ when their time is up. Also, if they forcefully continue too long past this point, the soul will begin to ‘rot’.

Is that foreshadowing? Someone’s not willing to die, so they slowly lose their sanity.

Out of curiosity, is it possible to genuinely become immortal? Is that a possibility at the 9th consolidation or is it just outright impossible to become immune to the passage of time?

It’s impossible to become fully immortal. At least, it’s impossible for the souls of humans. Beings based on a different foundations (such as the Heavenly Will) can live much, much longer.

But wouldn’t a genetically modified person live forever? Not in the afterlife, but in the real world? Magic isn’t even necessary, but magic can simply facilitate the path or provide a shortcut. Then, an entity from the afterlife, using the System or other means, could transfer into a physical body and achieve immortality, couldn’t it? That is, not simply attaching the soul to the body, like a phylactery, but gradually transferring its consciousness into the physical shell to preserve the continuity of existence.

I view aging through the lens of ‘Entropy accumulated in a System’. People age. Bridges age. Mountains age. Even in a Sci-fi setting where bodies can be rebuilt, entropy would accumulate in the mind eventually leading to collapse and death.

Ergo, entropy must also accumulate in the soul as it contains the aspects of a mind. Thus, how Lord Potami could tell Sylvia’s youth. Her soul lacked the accumulated entropy of an older demon:

“No need for surprise. Young souls have a certain smoothness and clarity,” Lord Potami explained. “Experienced demons can judge your age, should you stand close enough to them.”
