And so The Aftermath ends, not with a bang but with a waffle.

I hope you enjoyed this little detour! I had a lot more written for this story and I wasn't disappointed with it, but as I've said, it became clear that rebooting the main comic was the way to go, and I needed the freedom to make all of this invalid.

A short summary of what would have happened, had The Aftermath continued:

  • At the Pancakes House, Trevor notices some sexy goth-looking people, and is eventually invited to join them... by Les. He's brought into a world where the vampires may not be immortal supernatural creatures, but the blood-drinking and the hierarchies and the sexiness are very real - along with the danger (which explains our no-show, no-call cashier.)

But he's still an idiot, so it's funny.

  • In an arc called "Under the Jolly Rogfur," Steve immerses himself in an online Furry community role-playing a pirate ship. Things do not go the way he expected, and he starts to have to challenge his nature and move away from douchebaggery. Steve's arc intertwines with Jimi and Nina's now-complicated relationship, and the fallout from the end of his own relationship with Rose's mother Beth must be reckoned with when Nate and Rose come back to Long Point to get married.

  • For Miranda, it's an escalating series of conflicts with Tracy that threaten to complete her arc from sweet and optimistic way past cynical and into ruthless and vengeful territory. It was originally going to be Miranda accompanying Tracy to that customer service conference in Face to Face, as part of Tracy's early attempts to butter Miranda up before she really brought the hooks out.

It was definitely not going to end in sex. Luckily for us, Nate was there instead!

Some of these are still pretty compelling ideas to me, so don't be surprised if you see parts of this emerge in TG or some other story I do far in the future. I never like to throw anything creative away, which explains why I'm still doing stories about characters I came up with in the 90s!

This story died so that the new one may live. Circle of life.
