General Stone

Soul Cleansing Furnace!

I used the method as the soul attack hit me, and immediately, the power moved to contain it.

Still, despite that, I felt immense pain. So much that I wanted to scream, but I controlled myself and every muscle in my body. I will not give the enemy the pleasure of seeing me in pain.

The only thing he will get from this battle is death and nothing else.

While Soul Cleansing Furnace deals with soul attacks. I circulated another; it was very painful because of the attack, but I did not care.

“I expected more!” I taunted before shooting with Bronze Spring, at a speed much faster than before. He disappeared and appeared to my left over a hundred meters away.

I immediately turned toward him; the method might give me speed, but it is also very versatile.

I had reached halfway toward it when a massive bone hand, burning in black fire, appeared in front of me. I swung my halberd and tore through it.

As I did, the soul thorn was in front of me. I was better prepared and tore it through with my halberd.

He seemed surprised; he shouldn’t be.

This is an elder’s power; more powerful than even mages. People are so scared of it for a reason. This is not power one could easily contend with.

He teleported again, sending the lightning and then the mass of burning lances.

He spent spell after spell, but I destroyed them as I chased him; whenever I got close, he would teleport. I didn't get frustrated and kept going.

A few minutes passed, and he continued to throw different spells at me, but I destroyed them all.

Once more, an attack came; a soul attack this time in the shape of a skull. I tore through it, then spun and shot toward the lich as it appeared behind me.

I was halfway there when a smile appeared on my face, and I could see his face change as he rapidly created distance.

‘I am done!’ the Baroness declared.

The two Lv. 40 she fought are now frozen like blocks of ice.

The result is not surprising.

Yes, the two were powerful, with both having auras and one of them an artifact, but she is a Great Mage, and they were only warriors.

She also has that terrifying artifact on her head.

Her artifact is more powerful than Viremont’s Imperial Grade-III. The merchants would never give such an artifact of such power to us, if not for its ability to kill the people using it.

The only reason she took this much time to deal with the two is that she is also supporting the rest.

We were surrounded by the enemy, and she needed to clear undead clutter every few seconds. The Archbishop is doing that, but she is alone and stretched thin.

‘Clear the other enemies,’ I ordered.

There was a pause before she affirmed. She wanted to join me against the necromancer, but he was all mine.

It is selfish and non-strategic, but I want to kill him myself.

I turned to him and found him looking at me, with his gaze more intense than before. I knew he was going to do something, so I pushed more power into my halberd for a big move.

I have been pouring it in from the beginning, and it should be enough, but I can’t take a chance.

So, I push as much energy as it can take before I activate.

…

Lich Davenor

“You have left me with no choice,” I said to the elderblood, and cast Graveborn Reservoir.

Immediately, the wave was released and touched the first undead. It collapsed, with all the death energy coming out of it. The next moment, the pulse hit hundreds and then thousands.

The spell finally disappeared when the numbers reached over ten thousand. Those undead were completely useless now; they couldn’t be revived, their parts couldn’t be used, and they were completely dead.

I looked at the massive death around me, forming a dense cloud of it, and that elder blood unhesitatingly entered it.

He forced me.

I didn’t want to reveal this spell, not to mention the cost, but he did not give me any choice. He destroyed all my spells, and his people had got the absolute edge in the battle.

The Great Mage dealt with the two she was fighting and even a third a second ago.

Now she and the gladiator moved toward the others.

I am being bombarded with questions; many are threatening to run if I don’t help them soon, which I could only do after I dealt with the elderblood.

He is the biggest thorn after I dealt with him. I have complete confidence in dealing with the new Great Mage and Dusk's bitch.

Finally, he appeared in front of me, and I cast my most powerful spell.

Chains of Black Grave.

As soon as I cast the spell, hundreds of chains appeared.

They are not thick; they are not even fist-sized. They are small and delicate, each link barely as thick as a centimeter.

They are purest white with translucent flames. The spell not only binds the body but also the soul.

It is a spell specifically for enemies like him, with massive physical strength and a powerful soul. The spell is powerful enough as it is, but now it is being powered by the massive death energy.

He reacted instantly, diverting his attack from me to the chains. He destroyed them one after another.

He destroyed over twenty, surprising me, before the first chain finally avoided his halberd and reached him.

He destroyed it before it could wrap around him, but that gave a chance to three chains, which slid across his body. He destroyed two of them quickly, but nine more came.

Of them, five could wrap around his body, and they moved pretty fast, completely wrapping him in his embrace.

Now, the chains have wrapped him fully. Only his mouth and eyes are visible.

“You are the strongest enemy I have fought, but you have overestimated yourself, thinking you could defeat me,” I said and prepared a spell.

I need him alive.

Not because the kingdom wants him- they do, and there will be interrogation- but because I need to harness his bones with full magical capacity.

Infusing the magic contained in his skin and into his bones before killing him.

“You think you have defeated me!” he asked through the burning soul flames. He should have been screaming now. Instead, he was staring with intense, deep hatred.

I moved to speak when I felt a shudder through my soul, and I didn’t hesitate to use the teleportation ability of my staff.

It was when his halberd lit up, and a sphere materialized, covering us both instantly. I was about to laugh at his attempt when I froze as the teleportation failed.

I looked at the halberd in shock.

I had read about it, and it is an average artifact. Aside from the usual physical enhancement, which is also average, it has only one ability. An ability to produce defensive shields.

There was no information about its ability to stop teleportation once inside.

My staff’s teleportation is powerful. I had teleported through containment spells, and it could even break through an anti-teleportation spell.

I calmed myself and laughed at the Elderblood.

“You are still bound, and I will only need one spell to break it,” I said, and he didn’t say anything and laughed.

I was about to ask whether he had gone mad when dense bronze fire burst out of him and sizzled against the soul flames before I started hearing the cracks.

I looked in shock, but calmed myself and quickly finished the spell, even absorbing energy from my bones.

Which I rarely do, as it weakens them, but right now, I don’t care. I want to get out as soon as possible.

The spell finished, and I released it.

Desaris Beam.

A moon-white beam shot out of my staff; it’s the best attack to destroy defense spells and abilities.

It struck the sphere, and it rippled before faint cracks appeared on it and spread, but to my shock, it didn’t break; a moment later, I heard the breaking sound.

I turned and saw the elderblood shattering chains, each and every one of them.

“It’s time for you to die, lich!” he shouted, and attacked with a burning halberd.

“Keep dreaming!”

I released the stored spells in the staff.

First was a soul attack called Soul Burning Blade; I strengthened it with the aura method and sent it at him, but his halberd didn’t change direction toward me.

Black Bone Shield and a massive defensive wall in front of me, but a moment later, he tore through it.

And I gritted my teeth and launched Soul Burning Blade again.

I wanted to curse my choice of spell. I only stored soul and defensive spells within it. Those stored in my mind were either defending or killing the enemy.

Now, I wish I had stored something with more physical punch.

I launched attack after attack, but he destroyed them until I launched the last one: a defensive shield, which his halberd cut like butter before it reached me.

I cast a Great Haste to dodge, but his halberd moved too fast and crashed against me.

Immediately, hundreds of enchantments carved on my bones lit up, and I looked at his face to suffer backlash that would even kill him when I saw him grinning hungrily.

The next moment, he muttered something, and something came and entered me. Immediately, the enchantment began to lose power.

“Witchcraft!” I shouted in recognition; his lips curved, and a moment later dense coppery fire covered me.

Immediately, I felt the massive pain as it began to eat my bones and, even more, to attack my soul. My soul was protected by skill, but the attack still ate at it.

I resisted the elder’s power, but it began to eat through the skill’s defenses.

I realized that once it got through it, it would attack my soul, and that would be the eternal end of me. I hesitated for a moment before pulling my soul out.

Immediately, my phylactery activated on the island to pull me back.

“Do you think you could escape?” I heard, and the next moment, I was trapped in bronze while his halberd came at me.

‘Your deathless, save me!’ I pleaded, activating the mark, and immediately, I felt vast power. Feeling it, I felt relieved and knew I would be saved.

I had just thought that when another power clashed against it, different but no less powerful.

That bastard!

The shaman, the most powerful shaman of the bloody orcs of the island. No less powerful than his deathless.

I panicked, trying to clutch at the power that was so near me.

I felt like I could hold it; when the halberd reached and its power touched me, I felt pain I had never felt before in my life as my very soul burned in that fire.

Oh dam, I thought remus would push back or rhe merchants contract would get them to act. But intresting a shaman on the island is keeping his deathless at bay. Im guessing too that this lich was there when stones family was killed cause its unusual to see him like that against this lich in particular.

Awesome chapter! Enjoyed this one.

Shaitan

Another one bites the dust. Thanks for the chapter. Look forward to the fallout

Nikhilesh

Satisfying. Finally a couple of artifacts.

UnknownPineapple

Just realised this was there 3rd lich truly killed, and probably more than a dozen necromancers ready to become liches that have been stooped by grelthaven, i would think that would spook alot of them attacking now due to it being a patten now not just lucky

CherMi

Very satisfying, four level 40 enemies' deaths in one chapter. Also the witchcraft to bypass enchanted armor/suppress enchantment on bones is a game changer (so long as it's lasting after the stab), it trivializes enchanted armor up to and including half artifacts. Hopefully the undead king won't try to retaliate for another lich kept from his grasp, that's the only thing that could save undead outside of Ashton Harbor now.

Forget-me- not

I wonder if they will grind the lich like they did to the others...

UnknownPineapple

I think stone already did that, perhaps worse considering his hatred

UnknownPineapple

A teleporting mage artifact for zela maybe 🤔

Anas_M

I wonder who that Shaman is, did Remus make a deal with him prior to this battle ?

Cap_Rex

The level of investment they going to get after this battle is over. Hell this entire campaign show that the dominion is fully capable of defending and responding to any threat. Their investments from others is going shoot though the roof.

UnknownPineapple

Maybe, but probably not, just more suppression from the imperials

Nikhilesh

Well that is why Carla went to Storm tower. To get Grand Mage protection against Imperials by selling the Forgebase Intel and knowledge.

Nikhilesh

It should be the Grand shaman of Kalgha Dominion.

UnknownPineapple

I already dismissed that, i was only thinking of the newly rebuilt VG with mist weapons and amour.

UnknownPineapple

I think it was more them wanting to stick it to the undead, and the shaman acted when the undead king reached out to save the lich, that they went to stop him, mostly cause they wouldnt want another 45+ lich comming back to the island to fight against
