The anime doesn't mention much detail regarding the "blessed" Type-95 Jewel apart from this episode, but it is really cursed from her perspective it slowly brainwashes her over time when used, so she carries two jewel's the Type-97 for regular use and the Type-95 in emergencies where she needs the extra power.

Italian red devil is a nickname for certain red grenades used by Italy during WW2. They were dangerous and unreliable. They wouldn't explode in the hand, but the problem moreso is that they often wouldn't explode when they needed to. Meaning that any disturbance nearby could cause it to explode later. A lot of the events here in the anime do reflect real life conflicts. Usually not exactly the same, but also no shortage of similarities in setup, situation or motivation.

Tanya carried her old Type-93 while testing the new model so when things went wrong she could use it as a safety net to land with being a splat on the ground. Then later to lessen the times she had to use the new one. Notice Being X marked the back of Tanya's paper "God Wills It" so he's stacking the deck on Tanya for selection.

Deus lo Vult. Is an old crusade term. It is a term used to justify the horrific actions and the most blind of fanatics. Because it means: God Wills it. That said, it is a fun phrase to use in fiction.
