You had really good insight about Zuko and the themes his character arc deal with at the end there. And while I agree his character arc is frustrating I'm glad you saw the writers HAD to make it frustrating. It's the only way to do justice to the pretty deep and personal issues being discussed.

Yeah honestly I was so mad at Zuko after the end of book 2 😭 I couldn’t understand why he’d do that after everything that happened. But now I think I get it. Even if the right choice was right in front of him, he wouldn’t have been at peace until he realized it himself. He had to come to that conclusion on his own.

Combustion bending works by first filling up the fire chakra in the stomach through deep breathing. This builds up a huge amount of energy, which is then released as a focused beam through the forehead, where the light chakra is located. Because the energy is concentrated at a single point, it explodes at a distance instead of spreading out into regular flames like normal firebending. The tattoo helps make it easier to channel and release that energy through the forehead. A combustion bender’s main weakness is getting hit in the spot where the tattoo is because it disrupts their precise energy control through the light chakra. When that happens, all the energy gathered in the stomach and passing through the forehead can spiral out of control and cause a point-blank explosion. It’s an extremely rare firebending ability, mainly because it isn’t something you can inherit. Combustion benders are usually firebenders who survived intense special training programs, so in a way, you could think of them as products of experimentation.
