To alleviate some confusion the arrows and tattoos on airbenders are marks to show that they have mastered airbending (If you remember when Aang thinks of the past he was the only kid to have tattoos, while the others did not, and that was before he knew he was the Avatar). The Avatar is chosen in a cycle of the elements and when one dies, the next one will be reincarnated into the next element so after Aang it will be water, then earth, then fire.

the avatar appears in every of the nations. there is a sort of cycle to it, so it goes through fire, air, water and earth. when an avatar dies they are reborn in the next nation so if aang were to die a waterbender would become the next avatar and so on. When it comes to zuko getting the arrow i believe that really was just a nightmare because he was conflicted where he stands so him having the arrow on his head was just his nightmare manifesting as the struggle inside him. dont think it had anything to do with him being the actual avatar because those arrows are generally just a symbol of the airbender monks and not the avatar

To add to the clarifications: Zuko will never be an Avatar. The Avatar is a single soul passed from life to life. When an Avatar dies their soul will be reincarnated into a newborn from the next nation (it's a cycle). It's not something passed down through genetics or a bloodline. The reason Iroh told Zuko he had the power to bring balance deals with the concept of generational trauma/guilt. Because he is the grandson of both Sozin and Roku he has both the shame of what Sozin did on his shoulders as well as the right to avenge his other grandfather Roku. It's as if both Sozin and Roku are fighting inside him.

something to think about going into the Avatar state. the avatars role is to keep balance in the world, so lets say the water nations became the next big enemy to the world and they captured the avatars wife or husband, since the avatar can be male or female. to end the war the avatar had to choose to go to the north pole where the water nation was going to summon a great flood to destroy all the other nations but the avatars lover and friends and family was captured in the south pole to be used as hostages and they had to choose between saving the world or saving their lover and family. in the eyes of the Avatar spirit the most important people to this current avatar is just a few lives out of millions of generations. so letting go of attachments to the world didnt mean leaving your lover or never finding love but that if the choice had to be made you had to be willing to let go of anything, only if you have to, for the greater good of the world. but this is nice cause Aangs misunderstanding of this shows that he really is just a kid but also how much pressure the fate of the world has on him.

Yeah, the Avatar cycle was explained in episode 3, which might be too early cuz a lot of reactors don't seem to catch how it works. Sokka even jokes that he didn't like Aang at first because "you used to be a firebender".

ohhh so that's what the arrows are for! I really thought that only the avatars can have that but yes you are right the kids never had them. Thank you for clarifying it 🥰

SprinkleVerse

I see! I guess I read too much into that dream Zuko had. I thought he could be an avatar too just like Roku and we would have 2 avatars. 😆 thank you for the explanation 💖

SprinkleVerse

Thank you for the clarification 🥰 I read too much into the dream Zuko had 😅 I thought it was possible to have 2 avatars especially after learning about Zuko's grandfathers.

SprinkleVerse

ohh I see!! So that's what the guru meant by leaving all attachment to this world. he can love and have friends but not choose them over saving the world if the choice ever came up, he needs to be willing to sacrifice them for the world. it's sad still to choose something like that but I get it 😭 thank you for the clarification 💖

usually things don't sink in so fast for me when watching something new haha so yea I missed it totally. I don't remember it being mentioned at all 😅 thank you for pointing that out 🥰

Can there be two Avatars at the same time? Well, the answer is both yes and no. I hope that gets you curious enough to watch The Legend of Korra😉, since it dives deeper into how Avatars actually came to be.
