As Reinhard mentioned, he can't pull the sword out if he's not facing someone worthy. If you remember the start of season 2, when Subaru saw the things that could possibly have happened in every one of the loops where he died, where Reinhard fought giant Puck, he actually managed to pull the sword out. That's speaking volumes about Puck's real strength. We could kind of guess it before as well, since he did say that he was going to end the world and he is called The Beast of The End or something similar to that. Reinhard is so strong from what we know, there's so many unfair blessings he has: He basically reduces most elemental magic against him, first attack always misses him (and another blessing that makes second and all following attacks miss as well) and so on. I wonder how he was able to be hit here at all, get killed even. I guess the only real explanation could be that Reinhard let himself be killed/hit without activating any of his blessings. It's also worth mentioning that the one blessing I left out in the big list of blessings a while ago, was shown in this episode: "Blessing of the Phoenix: Upon death, he is granted a "continue?" once." I wonder if he could just wish for another blessing of the phoenix or not, since he can just wish for any blessing or is Subaru now take into account the fact that if something similar happens again, even Reinhard could die and he couldn't be revived again. It was a great plot twist if you don't remember names well, but as it was told in this episode, we really did meet different Archbishops of Gluttony. They did also have different outfits. Two things also worth mentioning during the Julius/Ricardo fight with the other Gluttony. At 15:45 Julius says his name which I find odd, since I believe he was the one that told Subaru not to give Gluttony his name when fighting it at the start of the season, he even went as far as to call Subaru by a different name and Subaru did the same for him. And right after that part in this episode, Gluttony says "You really are exactly as I imagined, brother." and the subtitles here are actually wrong. That's why Julius was surprised here. It's also cool to see that Subaru came up with multiple different plans to defeat Greed here. Reinhard really doesn't seem to be all that smart when it comes to planning and just seems to rely more on his blessings and power in general. So what Reinhard can't do, Subaru can and vice versa. I don't say this to hate on Reinhard, but that's the impression I got from him. I also think that Gluttony says "us" more because of the multiple personalities or memories they've probably stolen rather than because there are multiple of them. But I might be wrong, that's just my guess.

As for why Julius used his real name here, it was cut from the anime, but before the fight, Julius and Ricardo had a discussion implying that Roy already knew their names and that he must have devoured the memories of someone on their side.

I see, that makes sense. Kinda sucks that they cut that part but oh well.

It was pretty much clear from episode 5, when Roy was first introduced, that there is actually more than one gluttony, but now, seeing them both in different places at the same time, we can confirm that. Judging from the way they act, their mood, their tone of voice, mannerisms and speech patterns constantly changing, it would appear that all the memories they consume merge with their own, creating something of a split personality. And the way Lye spoke of Subaru sounded oddly familiar… Garfiel is gonna have a hard time overcoming Kurgan. Even though he's unbelievably strong for his age, he is fighting a literal legendary warrior. Not to mention, Kurgan is clearly holding back. He's using only 4 arms instead of all 8, and he's not attacking with his swords. With how much build up we had with Garfiel's inferiority complex at the beginning of the season, this fight is gonna be crucial for his development. There is a very common misconception regarding the Master Swordsman line. Many people think that every previous Master Swordsman was equally powerful to Reinhard and had the same abilities, but that's not true. He's a very special case. Theresia only had the inherited Blessing of the Sword Saint, which simply lets you wield the Dragon Sword Reid (the one Reinhard currently has) and makes you see all weak points and mistakes of your opponent, and she has her own Blessing of the Death God, which, as Wilhelm mentioned, makes it so any wound dealt by her will never close as long as she's nearby. Only Reinhard has the Blessing of Santa's Favorite, which lets him wish for as many blessings as he wants (I made that name up, but yes, he can actually do that). It's a pretty important difference and it's going to be important a few episodes from now.

This is a great episode. Everything starts moving, we get to see some wins and some losses from both sides of the fight. We even get a bunch of updates on previous plot threads. It's a very dense episode that even took time to throw in some fanservice at the beginning, because why not. It doesn't really come into stark clarity until the episode when he's helping Emilia up that Subaru is heading down the path to look like Al. His body is getting some serious injuries and it will be interesting to see down the line how many stick around. I doubt he'll lose an arm or have what I can only assume is a disfiguring Al's face, but something is going to stick.

wow you make a good point about Subaru going the path of Al!!! 😱 I wonder how long his arm and legs are going to be like this
