Yeah, that "I'm back" was not literal. He's back in a sense that his resolve is back. He's determined to save all of them and become the Natsuki Subaru they see in him. I cannot praise the author enough for selling us the same character development a second time and making it as impactful. We've seen Subaru grow and become a hero throughout the previous seasons. We watched him overcome his insecurities, fix his flaws and put his life on the line for others. But now, seeing him overcome all of this again, we have undeniable proof that it's not just the circumstance that made him develop. It's his character. With memories or not, Natsuki Subaru truly is an amazing guy. That being said, we still have so many mysteries to solve and so many dangers to svae ourselves from. Satella wrecking the tower, Reid breaking out, the giant scorpion, the herd of mabeasts... and whatever made Subaru lose his memories. Now, how exactlyy did hell brak loose in that final loop? As for Satella, we've seen her manifest like that in season 2, when Subaru talked to Echidna about Return by Death. Is the reason she's here now the same? I mean, in episode 9, the non-Rem did say "Try to figure it out next time". So is the one possessing people aware of his power? Now, considering that Satella is here, the tower must overflow with miasma now. And we know since almost the begining that mabeasts are drawn to the witch's scent, so that's probably why they're here. The giant scorpion - I like your theory. It does have the same color palette as Shaula, the three dots that were pointing at Subaru look like the ones in her eye and Shaula is literally a star in Scorpion constellation. So is that the form she takes when a rule is broken? But which rule was broken? My best guess - the fourth: Don't damage the tower. Either Reid and Julius fighting, or Satella manifesting, or even possessed Subaru scratching his name on the walls could count as damaging the tower. Finally, why is Reid suddenly able to leave? Honestly, no idea. Maybe he's no longer bound there after the tower gets destroyed? Subaru still has a lot to solve. It's probably the most difficult task he's had before him so far, and all the problems seem to stem from his memory loss... I am so excited for tomorrow!

I definitely didn't expect Subaru to start running towards Ram with reckless abandon. I figured he'd try to at least talk it out. But the cat is clearly out of the bag and they understand something is up. I do think that Ram was more justified in what she thought, Emilia was a bit more naiive about it all. I do find it pretty funny how whatever Gluttony is inside Subaru just stood up, probably broke the cage and instead of doing anything else, they just decided to write a bunch of stuff on the walls and then go lie back down lol. Apparently something is happening to the tower and Reid is free. I wonder if it's something like a defence system that when the tower comes under attack, Reid and Shaula would protect it? If that's so, makes sense to have two of some of the strongest characters we've seen so far protect it. It's clear to see though that he likely also had some secret rules placed on him, just like Shaula did. More interestingly, Reid does say "So you came, huh?". Not quite sure what he is referencing, but it's probably not good. I bet it has something to do with those mabeasts. And this is the part where the real Natsuki Subaru comes out, not literally of course. He yells to Julius to save him from being hit from behind, even though, if he was as murderous and evil as we'd been led to believe, like Meili said, this would've been the perfect opportunity to learn more about the past Subaru through Julius' memeories. You see even some regret on his face when Meili said that he killed her. Moreover, he's relieved that he didn't kill Emilia and Ram. He doesn't understand it, but he is changing back to who he used to be. I can't be surprised that nobody is buying the "I lost my memories" thing. Nobody had a hard time believing it before, but since everyone is doubting Subaru, it's harder for him to prove it because of how suspicious he looks to others. And then comes the Subaru we saw back in season 1, the self hating shut-in who believes that nobody cares about him or expects anything of him. Between looking like a scorpion and having something similar to a laser point on a sniper, I think it's fair to say that Shaula transformed into whatever that is. I guess she's a mabeast then, which would make sense why she was together with and constantly around Meili. I guess it's another condition put on her to protect the tower, probably something similar to Reid. Here comes out the real Subaru again. Not only does he reflexively reach out and grab Echidna before she falls, but even after the explosion. He clearly knows he can't help Echidna, but he still tries to. The murderous Subaru wouldn't care. He also looks sad when he thinks about Betty being dead from the explosion, trying to shield him. He's clearly not the heartless person he was. He can't even kill Echidna, even though she's suffering. Then comes Satella. Satella apparently appears to Subaru when he's given fully up on life, and then she proceeds to love him eternally, if that had come to pass, the loops would've been over and so would've been the show as he would never die. I wonder how Emilia was able to break through those hands though, maybe those hands weren't real and it was just happening in his head? We see more of past Subaru here. All this self hatred that he got healed from previously is back. But this time Emilia is there for him. What I find truly beautiful about this scene is that all of it closely reminds me of season 1, where Subaru, backed into a corner and nearly going insane and giving up, is brought back from the depths of depression by Rem having confessed her love to him. True love for the person in front of her, not with the past version of him nobody but Subaru knows. Same with Emilia here. Even if Subaru doesn't remember or understand, even if he thinks he's not the person to help others or take instinctive action, we've already seen it not be true multiple times this very episode. And Emilia is here to prove it by giving a similar speech here as Rem did back then. I say, if there's anyone that understands what it is to lose memories and be lost, it is Emilia. And finally Subaru understands. The ending song Emilia's VA sung was also an amazing touch for the ending of the episode. Sadly, Subaru didn't get his memories back at the end, he gained his confidence though, just like he did when Rem did her speech. It was truly painful to see Subaru murdering the people around him that he actually cared about. (I'm kind of sad that we don't probably see Meili haunt Subaru though, it was super creepy but weirdly enjoyable and interesting.) See yall in cour 2! Ask me any questions you might have and I'll do my best to answer if I can. There are also a couple answers to some of the mysteries in the opening, but I'll wait for the new cour to be out and then I'll decide if I want to give out some of the details I picked up on when watching it.

I agree with you, even though we just basically saw the same story as the beginning of the anime, but it was so different due to what we know yet it led to the same result of Subaru growing again! I bet when his memories come back he will be even more awesome! 💖 thank you for sharing your thoughts! you opened my eyes to things I never thought about 🥰
