Exact shock I expected, no one expected Riko to die in a happy moment, Toji sure knows how to ruin happy moments he did it twice this episode he planned super far ahead to beat Gojo. As far as how Gojo's powers work since it's kind of glossed over in pieces throughout the show. His power in a oversimplification is to control space to a certain degree which is why he can stop attacks, make things float, teleport, move objects kind of like Pain from Naruto Shippuden, etc it's called Limitless. The thing that makes him special over others in his clans history that have had it is he was the first born in centuries that was also born with the other clan's special trait of the Six Eyes while also having Limitless. Since he has both the Limitless can unlock it's full potential with the Six Eyes kind of acting like a key for it. It allows him to control it on the atomic level so he can truly master it. While anyone in his clan can inherit Limitless at birth without the Six Eyes the technique burns too much energy to use effectively. Which is why he wears things over his eyes all the time, he can turn Limitless off but not his Six Eyes. So them being exposed all the time wears him down so covering them limits their power so it's sustainable. They kind of work like infrared vision so even with covering he can see just fine without looking at things. In fact in episode 1 of this arc we see Shoko wearing Gojo's glasses when they were playing basketball and she's shocked because she can't see out of them because they're completely blacked out and can't be seen through them without Gojo's eyes. So whenever the animators show Gojo's eyes through the glasses as see through it's more for artistic reasons then them being actual sunglasses. Gege went out of his way to give a character the most complicated powers ever in a already complicated power system. lol

Gosh damn, the music tricked all of us!!! It seem so peaceful! Then I remembered this is Jujutsu Kaisen... That poor girl..Riko... damn it Dio!!!! I mean Toji... how dare you ruin all our hopes and dreams like in Jojo! lol

A slight correction, Maki was born with very little cursed energy, not zero, so she's not quite like Toji. On top of that, Toji is someone who has something called Heavenly Pact, a thing sorcerers are born with. We learnt this back in season 1 from Mechamaru, who was born with a very sensitive body, and thus not being able to move around, but he can use his Cursed Energy to control his puppets at a very long distance. So in exchange for his body, he gained that ability, just like Toji here, who gained this immense amount of physical powr in exchange for ALL of his cursed energy. As we know, even a normal person has some cursed energy, even if they aren't a sorcerer. That's why it was said that people could sometimes see cursed spirits, when at the verge of death or in a similar situation. What a shocking episode though. I remember when I first watched it, I was so shocked.

Maki has a Heavenly Pact too right? Like Toji's but I guess his Pact is stronger because he exchanged all his cursed energy and she still has some cursed energy? At least that's what I remember from season 1 and 2. Maybe I'm misremembering though, so many different abilities to remember (っ- ‸ - ς)

It will be answered in the future, so I won't say much, but you could definitely look at it that way for now.
