Hey everyone!

This is a follow up to the Celestial Chapel Exterior and the next part in our Celestial Mountain series. Here we find the interior of the Celestial Chapel, plague and madness have ravaged the former monks that lived here. The library is mostly intact, filled with esoteric texts on holy mountaineering, hierarchies of angels, and plane of order and beauty.

A few candles burn on but mostly it is a place of silence and solemnity. That is, except for a single tome, placed on the altar that whispers and glows with a pale blue light, like that of the planar aurora.

Next time in this series we'll take a closer look at that tome. ;)

Yes! This will fit very well into the next leg of my campaign… unless the party goes off the rails, LOL!

Barbara Norwood

I love this! If I were a billionaire, I would build this in real life.

KK42

Wait. The exterior map was 33x46, and the chapel was contained only to the upper right corner of that map. Here the interior is 33x53? You could fit almost a dozen exterior chapels into this interior, lol.

GO!! Light Up!

this is so good! I like it so much when you make interesting exterior and interior, it helps and inspires me a lot when I prepare my campaigns. Thank you very much!

Our goal is always to make as cool a map as possible. We try not to let verisimilitude get in the way of good storytelling or an epic place to battle in. The realistic 15x7 interior would surely have been disappointing. :)

Erik Niemi

I agree with KK42 on the map scale being so off from the exterior. Big is not better when running a game, and being an artist I'd have to say big is not better in art either! Epic could be a great 15 x 7 interior with a crypt and tower and other elements in a split level map. To be able to seamlessly transit from the exterior to the interior is crucial, and this makes that impossible.

Erik Niemi

These massive maps of interiors are getting disappointing and samey. They're all essentially the same space. Lets get more creative!

Czepeku

I think seamless transition being crucial is just a stylistic point we have to disagree on. In movies and plays there are scene transitions, even in video games there are loading screens between sections. I don't think seamless transitions are necessary for good storytelling nor tactical decision making and those are our goals. The cut and the reveal are important dramatic devices that GM's can use for impact. As for scale, we made it the size we thought it deserved to be to tell the story we wanted.

Erik Niemi

Interesting. Are you making this map to tell your story for for your users to tell their stories? The buildings are different in scale and shape, with several areas not drawn out and the interior that is drawn to an extremely (not just a little) different scale. What happens when some characters are in and some out? My groups play on a tabletop, and since there was some interest recently in developing maps for print I would say these things ARE crucial to using these maps together. This is an environment for storytelling, and you've been so great at making these, but these differences get in the way of making those stories work. (It's also nice to have some different shapes, rooms and areas in an interior instead of every map being a giant open space). :)

I'll consider your thoughts here, we do appreciate the feedback. This year alone we've made the Tomb of Sand Interior, Village Bakery, Ancient Tech Treasury, Cathedral Crypt, Japanese Castle, Hunting Guild, etc. which are all more complex series of rooms. We want to provide a mix of styles and recognise that not every map is for every GM. With 17,000 subscribers that's a lot of differing requests coming in all the time.

You have to play or years and years and years to appreciate , being precise, does not WIN the night, of good game, if your PLAYERS or DM is asking this of a game,of , FANTASY, WACKODINGUS monsters, and 'actually ' lnoseringed discord admins then, maybe you want off the rials to the TOWN fun FORHGOT...... i love these maps, these folk pour love and time and color theory and spatiality and flow... i'd suggest PLAY more, separate the wheat from the chaff.
