Hello everyone! I hope you enjoy my detailed psychological analysis of 86's, episode 2! The action was peak in this week's episode, and the symbolism and psychologically heavy content did not disappoint.

My main takeaways from the episode

1) The capacity to grieve and process our emotions in itself is a privilege for many struggling with limiting circumstances; when you are able, I hope you honor your grief (and all emotions)

2) The long-lasting implication and impact of propaganda legacy continues to show up with Lena's confrontation with the military academy's lecture; truth is only helpful when we are receptive to what is true instead of doubling down on our dissonance and self-deception

3) The new dynamic between Lena and Shin (with the Spearhead) is fascinating to witness; will Lena's genuine heart pierce through the Undertaker?

Happy Sunday, everyone. I hope my video makes your day/night a little bit brighter before the week ahead~

Waiting4Erik

Good initial catch with the symbolism for the name of Spearhead Squadron. There is additional symbolism to the name. But that will come later.

Waiting4Erik

Anju Emma does have the silver hair of an Alba, but she lacks the silver eyes. Her eyes are blue. She is an 86 that carries the stigma of being biracial - not racially pure enough to avoid the internment camps but still resembling an Alba oppressor.

Waiting4Erik

Lena drops the big history lesson on the new recruits. And while she was met with skepticism by the cadets, her admission that she has been to the battlefield is met with shock and awe. Nine years ago the Legion decimated the Republic’s armed forces. There are very few members left of the Republic’s military that have seen the battlefield. This means nothing to the old guard. But when a new recruit hears from the youngest Major in the history of the Republic that she has been to the battlefield - perhaps a few might find she’s someone worth listening to.

Waiting4Erik

Lena: “Even apart, our hearts are connected.” (Clasp over the left breast [heart] disconnects) Annette: “Your heart rate is elevated.” Lena is getting attached to Shin and the Spearhead Squadron. But there is a disconnect. And you sense most of it, but more of it will be revealed when you tune in to the next episode.

Waiting4Erik

Lena scolds Shin at the end because he’s filed the exact same mission report since becoming leader of Spearhead Squadron. And he got away with it because of the apathy and laziness endemic to the Republic’s military. So when called out he appeals to those character flaws to avoid doing the work. But her earnest and honest answer encourages a few of the 86 to tattle on Shin. So I think Shin’s smile at the end is his appreciation of Lena’s leadership and getting outplayed.

I wonder if the citizens aren't also scumbags in such a stagnant ethnostate. You'd not be blamed if you questioned whether or not everyone (for the most part) is complicit in its permanence, real life examples exist. Especially since this all happened in recent memory. Edit: Yoo me mention. What I meant by that comment was, you mentioned that this place shares a similarity to Nazi Germany and 1984, it's that exact social commentary that I mean!

Waiting4Erik

“All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.” George Orwell, “Animal Farm” “The 86 are humanoid pigs that could not evolve.” The Alba are “white pigs” that “evolved” to become more equal than Colorata.

MrGiamMY999

The law that stripped the human rights from the 86 was passed only 9 years ago, until then they lived together with the alba. That means that everyone that is more than 9 years old is perfectly aware that the 86 are humans and that they are dying on the battlefield. It’s not just the government, all the civilians know it too.

Dragons like Bananas

27:30 Raiden (green hair ) actually brings up the same point in the LN , believing that given the right resources Sihin would become the key to defeating the enemy. He also talks about how if Shin had been born during any other time period he would become humanity's hero , his story being passed down for generations and name carved into history. But insisted he has the misfortune of being destined to dye without anyone even knowing he existed

David Garcia

The light novel first began publication in 2017.

I’m catching your reaction late but man, Lena is such an amazing character. She is very naive, but her spirit is undeniable. She quickly became a hero for me watching this anime.
