Hello everyone! I hope you enjoy my detailed psychological analysis of Your Lie in April, episode 6! The show continues to deliver and really tugs at my heartstrings ~

My main takeaways from the episode

1) We can all carry each other on our backs as needed, metaphorically, emotionally, or physically, as long as we reach out and stay connected with our friends and families

2) We always underestimate our incremental progression in life, and it often takes a third person to highlight our growth and remind us how far we have come despite the struggle

3) It is encouraging to see Kousei stepping up and choosing to confront his trauma despite being scared, because we matter and we deserve healing, which demands doing the work

Happy new week, everyone! I hope my videos make your day a little bit brighter~

Easily missed. Kao told Kousei to go comfort Tsubaki. She knew Tsubaki needed Kousei. And she told Kousei to go. “He’s like a hopeless kid brother, maybe?” Kaori reflects Tsubaki’s phrase back at her. Tsubaki doesn’t understand her own emotions. But by using this phrase and intonation, and later by sending Kousei to comfort Tsubaki, Kaori shows us that she understands the emotional truths that Tsubaki doesn’t grasp. More importantly it’s an admission that she has those same feelings.

The word I’d choose for the symbolism of dust is “neglect” as it captures the physical state of Kousei’s “sad” piano as well as the state of his emotional health. It’s such a hallmark of deep depression - and in his case his complicated trauma. Kousei has neglected to care for and love his piano; he treats himself the same way. And as a musician Kaori now sees the heartbreaking truth.

Kao: “Arima’s trying to turn his suffering into music right now. Exposing your pain and suffering, and revealing who you truly are…that’s how we find ourselves within our music. It’s how we make music come alive.” Kao: “Music is freedom” It’s how musicians survive depression. Music is the path to freedom from suffering. But to reach that freedom a musician/artist must journey through their suffering; face their emotions and express those emotions through their art. Every musician that has channeled their pain into their music knows this. The price in pain is steep, but the reward is the freedom of one’s soul. I KNOW this from experience. Hours spent alone at a piano searching for ways within music to connect to the emotions I had disconnected from - emotions I could not explain but instinctively knew were tearing me up unexpressed. Finding that music never solves anything, but it frees musicians enough to survive another day. A non-musician might never experience this first hand, but emotionally resonant creativity can inspire audiences. And this anime is chock full of it. God damn this show never stops resonating with me. It reminds musicians why we love music, how important it is to our lives - even when we’ve stopped playing ourselves.

40:20 two recurring symbols: cherry blossom 🌸 petals (see Kirschblüte in “86”) and water. And the 🌸 have multiple layers of course. But something’s different about the way one of the symbols is presented in this shot. A single falling petal is sometimes shown trailing after Kaori moves past the camera. I think you’ve already unconsciously processed that symbolism. But in this shot there are 2 falling 🌸 petals that land and float in water. I think I know what it means. Curious as to your thoughts.

Psychotherapist Reacts

So so good. I had a client who chases sensation, identified himself as a hopeless romantic, and came to me for a heart break, and was afraid of letting go because his heartbreak made his music great

With some more thought I think it’s even more specific. Kou: “You exist within springtime. A flourish of life unlike anything I've ever known.” Episode 3. And before this Kousei says he’s felt the seasons change. So I think the image is a representation that Kousei and Kaori are existing together in Spring.” But Kousei hasn’t been depicted as a 🌸 the way that Kaori has…so it speaks to his 🌸 as Spring/renewal. The water being Life. But a flower is only a flower…

I don't know if you caught that but Kaori reacted when Kousei was like "ptpsh when she's QUIET anyway" which means she was actually awake and just pretending to sleep.

This is very much unrelated to YLIA, sorry about that, but seeing the dichotomy of grey and pink coloured life reminds me a lot of one of my favourite anime that I think you'd enjoy psychoanalyse. it's one of my all time favourites, Hyouka. It's a mystery series too, which AD has shown you enjoy the genre too x) Hope you give it a chance at some point!
